  • Best version for Trumpet Hydn, This trumpet influenced opening music for Godfather film - seflizon

  • I remember a guy in my school playing this for a school performance and I couldn't stop smiling throughout the whole piece!

  • im a 12 year old trumpet player and i love this song bec i made 2nd chair all county this year and for compitition im going to play this song. !

  • wow 5 people dont know good trumpet playing or good music!!!

  • Very wonderful! I'm thining about switching to trumpet because it sounds so amazing. Hearing this makes me like the trumpet even more!

  • why would someone don't like a video like this, I don't get it.

  • Haydn's music always makes me laugh for some reason. I love it!

  • too slow

  • as far as sound goes or heaviness i think freddie hubbard said it best when he said everyones teeth, lips, embochure, are all different and even tongue i really like the comments tho

  • I love it! Classical trumpet is fantastic!

  • minha musica

    preferida!!

  • Why can't trumpet players just appreciate the music other trumpet players have to offer? Makes me ashamed to be a trumpet player.

  • @tacotart your not a trumpet player if you dont have an ego!

  • very very beautiful ,exhilarating Sunshine

  • IF YOU WANT HERE HOW IT'S SUPPOSED TO SOUND LOOK UP TINE TING HELSETH ---OR GO WITH THE SLOW ELEPHANTINE VERSION

  • @dabermanator you really have to be kidding Wynton is playing the piece just as it ought to be played. Niether Ting nor balsom are using an Eb trumpet. Ting has nothing on Wynton when it comes to sheer ability. Perhaps your letting the head thats in your pants do the talking....you are a real idiot when it comes to music. Even maurice Andre uses an Eb trumpet when he plays this piece...

  • @doudecad Tine Thing Helseth does use an Eb trumpet. Maybe you should actually pay attention before you start criticizing people.

  • @BLUERANGER1993 There is no comparison, regardless, She is using a short bell Eb and Wynton is using what is known as a long bell Eb. There is just no comparison,,,,,Wynton is the Man!!

  • @doudecad Everyone is entitled to there opinion. I like both of them, personally. Each have their own style that I like for different reasons. I like how powerfull Wnton's sound is, but i also like how light Tine's sound is. I think we can both agree though that this concerto is an amazing piece of music.

  • That lifts my spirits so much. The real tragedy though, is that nearly all of Haydn's concertos have been lost :0(

  • In 1966 - 1968, all Trumpeter that was First Chair at ALFRED LAWLESS JR.HI. in the Lower 9th Ward, of New Orleans played this Concerto and Love every bit of it. Just like the Band it self Lawless Band would Win at every THING! !

  • @jthrunz i don't think it really matters...whether you call them "movements" or "parts" it's still an amazing piece.

  • It is really disappointing that he likes jazz more than classical, oh well, at least he's marvelous at jazz as well...

  • He is amazing.

  • there called movements not parts @kwonotae

  • Anyone who says he's not amazing is a dumb deluded butt hole.

  • absolutely AMAZING !

  • the conductor looks like ken from the barbie franchise

  • who cares who he looks like...when u listen to him play none of that matters!!

  • you mean : Will Smith looks like Wynton Marsalis

  • You said it! (the description)

  • wow!! Impressive!!

  • 6 years ago, I heard Wynton play on tv, which inspired me to begin high school band as a trumpet player. Now, Im working on this concerto for a scholarship audition, and my trumpet is the one thing i take pride in most. All in all, Wynton is an incredible inspiration. :)

  • he looks like luther king jr. just sayin.

  • I'm a trumpet player, so that makes Wynton my role model.

  • It's an Eb trumpet - most players use Eb on the Hummel, Haydn, and Neruda concertos

  • @matthewputz dont forget the ernst schase concerto.

  • That's not a piccolo trumpet which has 4 valves. Don't know what trumpet is that....an E?

  • When the soloist is so virtuosic the conductor and orchestra can relax and give of their best. This they do.

  • I think the audio qualities of the room calls for his approach. There is definite reverb in this room which has to be accounted for. His tonguing would surely be more precise in say a studio setting, but that style can work against you in a big empty room.Love you Wynton!

  • I still think Rafael Mendez 's trumpet recording is more sophisticated and precise in double-tonguing, especially in this 3rd movement. By the way, the recording is miserable, comparing to modern ones, but still a good glimpse of his performance. His trumpet is alive.

  • i still think he looks like will smith...

  • Jesus was the original messenger of GOOD NEWS

  • Oh, I love this! He sure sounds like "the messenger of good news!"

  • Very few artists have Wynton's virtuosity as well as range... from the classics to modern jazz. He also helped out a great deal in New Orleans after Katrina.

  • The Haydn was the first ever trumpet concerto written for the newly developed fully chromatic trumpet.

  • those anyone know if thats a piccolo trumpet

  • @direct4know1 I'm not a trumpet person but I believe it's an Eb Trumpet since Haydn wrote it for the new Trumpet they designed back in the Baroque time. This was to show off what the new trumpet was capable of.

  • @OoMrBenoO you are indeed right

  • @direct4know1 the concerto is in Eb so yeah that is an Eb horn.

  • awesome! :) great song and a great "trumpeteer".. tnx

  • he is definitely my favorite trumpet player, but for whatever reason, i like phil smith's version better...

  • @Austinator3076 I would agree. Phil Smith has a sound and articulation like no other.

  • He's the best.

  • awsome it would be so sweet to play like that. and clear like that

  • Always puts a smile on my face.

  • I like Wynton's version better than Tine Thing Helseth's

  • Great playing again! Pity the last bit of 2nd movement is missing.

  • Yes but from wht ive seen he has a pretty good sense of humour and would probably offer Will Smith Lessons so he could look like him AND sound like him. :)

  • Ahhh! I love this piece and also he was featured on the listening comprehension on our English state test!!!

  • Far away the best version I've heard.

  • 1:21? Why'd he slur it?

  • @bflattrumpeter Why wouldn't he? I would...

  • @scoggles No one slurs it

  • @bflattrumpeter Well, I would, and Wynton did, so that's a pretty good indication...

  • wonderful!

  • the music of my childhood!

  • @KOLYMBARICITY how old are you? this piece was written in 1796....

  • @vicskyline9 im 18 but i had a videotape with fairytales that this music was in...i was 5 when i first heard it

  • @KOLYMBARICITY ohh, i get it... cool

  • @KOLYMBARICITY that must have been happy. i bet your parents dressed you like a "little man"

  • @atirisdes i wasnt listening this kind of music all day long and no i wasnt dressed as a ''little man' and no i didnt really had a happy childhood

  • @peytonjmusic: He didn't have to, but it's common practice to use it on the Haydn because that's the key it was written in and the instrument it was written for. I can tell you from experience (I have performed the 1st movement of the Hummel trumpet concerto) that playing the E-flat is a lot of fun. My music was originally in B-flat but my instructor had me transpose it into E-flat. It was quite an experience

  • did he have to use an e-flat trumpet?

  • He plays so perfectly I just sit back and listen with joy, without putting on my critic's hat. He IS the standard .. The guy has too much talent.

  • will smith

  • How can I get a playlist? I would enjoy having some of these delights continue to play without my having to go in every few minutes to poke it... Thanks. PLS seattlelady

  • do people know why he didn't play a cadenza where it's "suppose" to be??

  • @strad37

The Canenza is only with the first movement, but i'm nut sure

  • @strad37 Yeah, the Cadenza is in the first movement. I think it is a little trick that Haydn does to his audience to throw them off. Haydn knows that cadenzas are usually in the third, but he surprises everyone with it in the first.

So it is not a Wynton thing...although, Wynton does write (improvise) his own cadenza. He says it is much more difficult to improvise than jazz, simply since he is playing completely alone.

  • @strad37 He made a marvelous cadanza in the first movment. He was tierd so give him a break! xD

  • I see why Wynton is so good. notice in this that he is sounding somelike a violin and in carnival of venice it is very sweet and delicate in the intro. he adapts with such ease that i should look into this as a trumpet myself.

  • the conductor looks like a robot.

  • did this for my grade 8 in year 10. not as good as this though

  • Wow!

  • The conductor looks like an animatronic at first.

  • Brotha Marsalis is a diverse musician. I thought he was strictly a Jazz man....but it's nice to see him play Classical too! Excellent!

  • sorry.. it was not written with a cadenza. i came across a shitty arrangement and version of it. and there is no cadenza. sorry.

  • Eres uno de los mejores imitadores de Rafael Mendez y de sus mas cercnaos discipulos en cuanto a estilos, pero te falta mover los dedos mas rapido... your way is very good!!!

  • umm... where is the cadenza?

  • @shawnb416 this song was never written with a cadenza

  • no it was.. im looking at the music right now

  • @meghanodell13 i'm looking at the piece also, at the 3rd movement doesn't have a cadenza. Make sure you aren't looking at the 1st movement, which does have a cadenza. If you listen to any version of this 3rd movement, you will realize that nobody has a cadenza. That's because it wasn't written with one.

  • y do i see offend see a trumpet in eflat or d when someones doing a solo with an orchestra?

would n e one spare their time to tell me =)

  • Wynton's version sounds more classical!:)

  • I think I like Rafael Mendez's version better. Nicely done, tho.

  • @DblOSmith Rafael Mendez was a monster! Greatest ever Trumpet player. He and Clifford Brown are the most unknown Trumpet greats! Wynton is definitely on the same level as they are.

  • @marioaleal Rafael Mendez is not unknown, he is very well known

  • Why is he playing sharp?

  • I think that Wynton is so good, it don't matter what he plays. He sounds good no matter what the song.

  • Beautiful peice, I did this, or attempted to do this peice two years ago for an audition, of course Wynton's rendition is better, naturally. Thank you for uploading.

  • You will find it much easier using the "tongue controlled emboucher" taught by Jerome Callet , located at 44 Garden St., Staten Island, NY 10314 US. Or jazz trumpeter and high note specialist Bill Charmichael at 888 Wesson Dr. Casselberry, FL 32707 US. This is not an advertisement, just a tip from someone learning this technique. Harry James used this method. No more fatigue, much higher range. I can now practice 4 straight hours without fatigue!

  • Have you ever tried "tongue controlled emboucher" as taught by Bill Charmichael and Jerome Callet?

  • i find that wynton playing jazz best suits him.

  • wynton is the best

  • @qs3845 Heard about Ole Edward Antonsen? Best Trumpet player in Norway! :) Listen to some of hos works :)

  • @ piontro

He said one of the best.. not the best. and i agree, he is one of the best trumpet players in AMERICA right now.

  • ¡Este trompetista es fabuloso!

  • this is awesome!:)

  • lol this dude looks like will smith...

  • That 'dude' is one of the best american trumpet players around right now so you should learn who he is before addressing him as some dude that looks like will smith...

  • srry they all look the same.

  • @TheGRiiNDcore You are now a racist idiot. Congratulations.

  • @LoftyDaDan thank you =]

  • not just american - how many other all-rounders are there at the moment?

  • This DUDE is one of the oppressed by the white assholes in the USA, He has talent, something very, actually Extremely rare in the USA a country where the only so called music is rap, pop, and Shit. You can try it by yourself, go anywhere in the USA and ask the people about Haydn or Bethoven, or something similar they have no freaking idea.

  • Not true. My jazz director, who was once a professional trumpet player himself has played with Wynton in past, and still does now, and is very close friends with Wynton, and Wynton has played with our band in the past too. Wynton Marsalis has a very great sense of humor, a funny guy, and my jazz director being white has no problems with being Wynton's friend.

And in my opinion, I think Wynton is the best trumpet player i've ever seen. He's so cool!

  • wow that is an awesome story. Lucky to have met the man

  • @trumpetman2525 he still looks like will smith... and that will not change.

  • @trumpetman2525 haha. he does look like will smith

  • @trumpetman2525 Correction, one of the best trumpet players in he world.

  • @trumpetman2525 Not to mention that he is a respectable alumni of Kappa Kappa Psi, and has been playing trumpet for well over 20 years that I know of. (I first heard of him in the mid-90s)

  • @trumpetman2525 dude...get over yourself

  • @trumpetman2525 will smith is awesome

  • @trumpetman2525 I've listened to this song as it was performed by others, and this has to be the best I have heard so far. Wynton himself performed this more than once - and I think this was his best by far. At least, from what I have heard. The notes were almost flawless if not flawless - and he really looked like he was getting into this based on his movements and facial expressions. Great performance!

  • @TheGRiiNDcore

    plays like Phil Smith

  • @TheGRiiNDcore And you look like an idiot! :D

  • btw! The mouthpiece he is playing on looks alot like the Schilke 14A4A (excuse me if i mispelled that)

  • Newsflash!

    Haydn is a bamf.

  • Agreed!!

  • I agree. No mather what instrument you play, you still have to push those buttons on the exact moment. I bet for a thousand bucks he can play this on every trumpet-like instrument.

  • Este tipo é incrível. Que domínio, que técnica. Dir-se-ia que é tão simples como assobiar.

  • @dew229

that is an e flat trumpet. did you miss the shorter main windpipe as it goes into the valve body? and the longer bell is a sign too. there is a visual difference in the E Flat soprano coronet and the trumpet.

  • When you assume.....well..you know the rest. :-)

  • who freaking cares what he plays on? i'd like to see you play like him. give him respect. are you a famous musician like Wynton? i think not. some of the best musicians in the world play on piece of junk instruments because THEY LIKE THE SOUND. it's about the music and the emotion and the connection with the music, not the propper flipping technique. tight-ass.

  • @dew229

So the goal of music is to be difficult to play?

  • It depends. There are two types of music: that one to be enjoyed by the listener and the other one to be enjoyed by the player. With regard to Haydn, I love all his music as a listener, and this concert is one of my favorites.

  • MAESTRO

  • Wynton no longer plays classical music? Devoting himself to Jazz?

  • i play trumpet and this soloist guy is so amazing!!! wow....

  • this is a good movie

  • gostei do vidio

  • Este vidio é muito bom

  • espectacular.........

  • im really curious to know if its actually a Schilke trumpet, and even MORE curious about what mouthpiece he's using. we all know about him and his moutpieces....

  • It's a Schilke E3-L with a Bach 229 C trumpet bell.

  • lol Really? How do you know? What about the mouthpiece? The E3-L seems to be a good horn from reviews.

  • A former teacher of mine was a friend of Wynton's when he was still playing classical music.

Not sure about the mouthpiece, but on one of the Wynton albums I have, he's clearly playing a Bach 1 1/4 C in the cover photo.

The E3-L is a great horn. I've never played a bad Schilke.

  • 3:14. Wow.

  • ESTO SI ES MUSICA

  • I like your o.

  • wonderfull!

  • that's a venetian horn right?

  • It's a Schilke Eb trumpet.

  • it is an Eb trumpet...i play this for college

  • Looking at the fingerings and the notes coming out I'd say he's playing an Ab trumpet? Somebody correct me if I'm wrong. The trumpet also looks smaller than the standard Bb

  • @skyhigh1989 i believe he is playing an Eb trumpet

  • It remember of University challenge or is it Flog it

    Great piece

  • GRAN OBRA

  • MASTER WYNTON MARSALIS!!!!

  • He is completely amazing. I'd give anything in the world to be able to play like him!

  • I always hear a fading sound at the background.. is this the way it is played or is it the recording.. I think it is the record quality!!!

  • i think wynton marsalis, now, is the best musician

  • this is so much better then band trumpet by far I love actually listening to how it is suppose to sound

  • i dont reAlly like this recording as much as his others

  • conductor looks like a wax model XD

  • Comment removed

  • Curlyfunksta- that's exactly what he is- a wax model, at Madame Tussaud's.

This is killer; I played this in competition when I was 13. Memories!

  • Amazing

  • Flawless

  • Marsalis is is without a doubt my favorite trumpetist even though i prefer his classical expertise to his jazz. Also i have found that nikariakov is great to listen to as well but still prefer Marsalis.

  • you cant say vizzutti is any better than marsalis when both of their main playing styles is totally different wyntons major playing style is jazz

  • I beg to differ. Wynton is the only artist to win a grammy in both jazz and classical! Which says to me that he is as proficient on the horn in classical as he is in jazz.

  • Comment removed

  • I dont know how u people are in the mood to compare trumpet players. "who is better".

I'm in heaven listening to this, just enjoy this play.

If you dont enjoy listening to this....get out and enjoy whatever you like. Peace

  • johncage70 has been spliced!!!!!!

  • I think vizzutti, is more of a contemporary trumpet player. Whenever i buy sheet music vizzutti is generaly ona funk album, i dont know but i think wynton is more precise in this style
