These people are straight out of Harlem. The story behind this is - someone sent U2 a cassette of this choir doing this song, and when the band heard it, they were well,...blown away. they made it a project to come to the U.S., and to Harlem and do a recording with this choir.

My 2 college friends from the Rochester School of Music , Christopher Bell, and Doug Besterman. came up with this version! Chris and Doug wrote the arrangement and Chris's dad worked for a Recording company in NYC , who did the demo with the gospel quire and then pitched the demo cassette to U2. They loved it and my boys spent 2 weeks with the band and are in some ot these clips and even got to sing on stage at the Garden! Pretty amazing!! (Never say never)

There are videos of the rehearsals and taping at the church here on youtube. the best one is the one that lasts like 4:39. That is the highest quality one. Watch when they are done singing in this vid, Bono goes over and hugs the woman.That is the lead vocal in the other video. Very powerful.

This is actually one camera angle from the madison square garden performance..there is another..i will post it at some point on myspace...they never made it into the film..rattle & hum shows the rehearsal in one of our choir members' church on 124th street..it is also interesting to note that the harlem gospel choir has been posing as the choir who did this for years...they lied!!! my choir was new voices of freedom..
