If I had to guess I'd say it has to do with his vocal effect, and perhaps also his in-ear monitor which you can see him fiddlign with at the beginning.
@cooliovasquez It's an acquired taste, perhaps. I kinda like it. Shows that he's playing from the heart, right? Well, at least, he's not just staring blankly at his fretboard like some musicians out there - seems lifeless.
@oceannamic saw them yesterday..the bands that played were really cool very creative sadly i had a headache so i couldnt stay front center the whole time almost threw up..not from drinking from something idk of..but thankfully i was able to talk to tymon and paul it really made my night as well as congradulate some of the dudes in the other bands that opened on a great performance one of the greatest shows ive been to despite the headache and almost barfing
@oceannamic They were sick on the 22nd! Especially Paul's shoes. They were some crazy looking one's, Vibram Fivefingers I think thats what they're called and those were some prog shoes!
@JacobMinyard Yes I knew I was right when I saw a dark picture of a concert and he was wearing that. I use FiveFingers too, and I was telling my friends that those were the shoes he was wearing... but too dark to tell. Best shoes money can buy.
what i think is so fascinating is that this guy and drummer and other guitar player are all familiar with death metal or played in a death metal band..and paul who came from the greatest death metal band death if chuck was still around i kno paul and chuck would jam out some great ass pieces..the band did amazing on the new EP it was super chill yet original and very tech
@xXDandZXx after listening to cynic... most everything else sounds so dull... im having a hard time finding music that really wows me anymore..but this should keep me satisfied for awhile
@locustlimb I saw them in London and was blown away. They're a fine-tuned group of musicians with a sound all their own. Their CD Traced in Air is one of my favorites.
It's a shame you guys can't really hear it in this video but from 2:50 to about 3:01 Sean went really ape shit with the double bass, I just remember everyone in the crowd just stared at him at that point lol.
@ElGrapadora ya they wanted to try combining the elements of their alt band Aeon spoke and cynic to make something new. I think its its great considering that the perspective on music from the metal audience has broaden so much when compared to the early nineties.
@TymonExivious ha, I noticed that when I saw you fellas supporting Opeth in '08. My first impression was 'Jake Gyllenhaal's a lot shorter than I thought...'
@iamrichlol1 well it just take his voice up an octave, the vocoder he used for focus was much different, I don't know if you would call what he is currently using a vocoder.
I'm finding that every time Cynic comes out with something, it isn't what I expect and I have to learn to like and appreciate it. First time I heard this song I was disappointed, but now I really dig it.
yeah im not really a fan of vocoders but this band was pretty good when i saw em at peabodys with btbam, devin townsend, and scale the summit. this song and integral birth r extremely catchy
@soadfan42 I saw that show too. I was blow away by Devin Townsend, since i wasnt too familiar with ham and im not a fan of strapping young lad. Cynic's yoga lesson mid show FTW
@mfkr3600 yeah the yoga lesson was pretty awesome. devin townsends mosh was awesome. i fell once but ppl helped me up and then we kept goin and then he just says its time for a group hug
I can't hear Robin's bass lines, those are my favorite parts of this song.

As a big post-rock fan, I prefer this side of cynic to the more metal side of focus

@Sabin41
As a Technical/Progressive Death Metal fan, I must say that I also prefer this more enriched and experienced side to Cynic as when compared to Focus.

Yeah. I would consider it more a "harmonizer".
I'LL really miss the days of Focus when Paul used his original vocoder. Those vocals imo were the best out of Cynic's career.
