That's prehistoric times. Those men have no grace at all. This is the worst haka ever in the history of the world. Hopefully, this will never happen again.
they just practically shat on the maori culture and the significance of our haka on nz. they don't even know what they're doing. that's so embarrassing
You deregulation of the building industry which lead to the leaky homes, you lied about S&P credit down grade. you mislead taxpayer regarding having shares in kiwirail, and now we discover you have share in Bank of America the same bank as New Zealands Foreign debt. Conflict of interest?
Monty Python gave us their take of Aussies in the "Bruces" sketch, and the Canucks in the "Lumberjack Song", and now, lost in the Monty Python archives, comes their rendition of the Kiwis....
@SINSSTER So true. And it's largely down to Wayne "Buck" Shelford who in 1987, at the world cup, pushed for the Haka to be done properly and with respect or not at all. He made the team practice it and take it seriously. You can see in this footage that most of them don't have a clue what to do or even seem embarassed about doing it. Now, the Haka is given the respect that it deserves.
Haha funny! But good on them for doing the haka. I'm sure there was only 1 maori in the team then. And it look like they were all watching him for the actions. Didn't look like they practiced the haka back then.
That's the funniest thing I've ever seen, I swear! What's with the 'scary ghost arms' posture?!? Oh, how times have changed! For better or worse i don;t know... ;-)
@bushtukkayarns Its a cultural war dance, done for many years in all different forms an variations, the maori use to do it in the bushes waiting for the British to venture in to the unknown.
Yea they dont the haka like this for years until about 1986 or so when Buck Shelford put some passion into it. Im sure the white boys of them eras didnt want to do it but had to because of Nzru politics etc.
@colinblogs Yea but the All Blacks of those eras were one of the best teams as well, if not the best, Wales an South Africa were along side them, Australia rugby at that time was still lacking.
Oh for god sakes! Its just because the haka wasn't a big thing for rugby back then, Look at the 1987 haka (Buck Shelford leads) and its not even that much better, And look at the 1922 haka... All there doing is slapping there legs.
@ZarakyeRunescapeShow : "There" is a difference between "there", "they're" and "their". There = over 'there' in the kitchen. They're = they are. Their = it is 'their' haka / it is their rugby ball, etc. You can't use the same word for all three: it will either show your ignorance or stupidity. Need any more lessons, just give me a shout. I'll try and help you avoid making an arse out of yourself. Your sentence should read: 'All they're doing is slapping their legs'. Trust It's clarified now.
@1976gert Haha im sure most people that read what is written can read between the lines an work out what they are trying to say, people that come on things like youtube an try to school people, you are the only one that makes an arse out of yourself by trying to correct people on a message board, I give you a A+ for nerd factor.
@bushtukkayarns Oh dont get so worked up. Its quite entertaining. Its supposed to be a friendly intimidation..
So dont put it down.
"War haka (peruperu) were originally performed by warriors before a battle, proclaiming their strength and prowess in order to intimidate the opposition. Today, haka constitute an integral part of formal or official welcome ceremonies for distinguished visitors or foreign dignitaries, serving to impart a sense of the importance of the occasion."
@ TheMattyc1957 most people would be respectful during a national anthem so it's only fair to do the same for a haka. What some people don't understand is that a genuine haka doesn't just empower the people doing it, people around it should draw strength from it as well. A haka introduces a spine tingling focus to all people including opposition and spectators...
Mind you, the above so-called haka carried little mana and would have added little benefit to this game.
@KroganSpectre a haka has as much to do with rugby as a national anthem does.
Although a national anthem may be more familiar to people globally, in NZ and the pacific islands a haka can be just as important.
