Man I would KILL to have been able to buy this just to restore it to factory condition. This car is obviously determined to keep running, just like my old high mileage Toyota 4runner.
i remember back on 1986 when my aunt brought one of this buick century home it was a burgundy one.but back then it was like wooow like having a nice 2012 in our actual days.it was really fancy.really nice.but as time goes by you could tell its been more than a thousand sunrises.and sunsets.and look really old.its good that you still people find them intersting now ive turned down so many oportunities to get one myself.is one of the old cars i wouldnt make it a classic.when i could buy a stang
There is alot I like about this old car 1 is a antique car now 2 not many of these are left or many 80 model cars 3 I like the sound it makes with its muffler gone.
Damn I was hopin' that trunk was filled with cocaine when he opened it so we could hear him explain THAT away........"standard 80's sized trunk filled with a cocaine like substance, let's try some shall we?"
(damn I just cant stop on this one) Hey, u forgot to mention the piss and vomit stains on the center armrest and carpets!! Come on dude, I'm gonna need more professionalism outta you if I'm gonna watch more of your videos!
The muffler is gone, the a/c makes the car shake uncontrollably, radio is out of tune and the upolstery is long faded..but this car is determined to keep on going and thats what truly makes a car remarkable
We have a '90 Cutlass Ciera 4-cyl with no muffler. Now I wish it had a V6. There are old A-Bodies everywhere where I live. They're impossible to kill!
In order to drive this car you need new mufflers, new tires, new steering wheel, new light bulbs, new belt, and new brakes i suppose. Also, from the smoke coming out of the muffler, you need oil change. Do all these, you can drive at least 20 miles without any problems. But the thing is that the car wasn't cared well, engine is old. With some pro cleaning of the valves and cylinders, it might sound better. But don't spend that kind of money on this car unless you really like it. This car should
We had one of those! 87. loved it. my mother was in 2 huge accidents involving a produce truck and an 18 wheeler, and that thing held its ground. She had to have shoulder surgery, but that's a lot better than being dead.
You people seriously need to grow the hell up for once! If you don't have anything nice to say about this car on Kyle's video, then don't say anything at all! I am sure Kyle would not tolerate it and would find the next person's rude comments and thumb them down!
All of you guys are nuts! These were great cars, the best from GM in the 80's sounded great and were bulletproof. I owned an 84 Pontiac 6000 STE. One of the best cars I've ever owned. Kyle if you ever come across a mid 80's STE, without further adieu, you know what to do.
The car looks good for it age. All it needs is some minor comestic work, a complete and thorough tune-up; a rebuilt/cleaning or replacement of the 2bbl carb found on the 2.8L V6 from sources like Edelbrock or Holley and a new complete exhaust system and you have a comfortable ride that will get you from point A to point B very easily without much problems.
This brings back memories for me. I had an 89 Century Limited for a while in high school. It was a nice car, ran great. I got it from an elderly relative and it only had 33,000 original miles back in 2006. I sold it a year later for a 99 Cougar. Century's are pretty good cars. Not real flashy or anything really ground breaking but still good dependable cars.
@paintedbird Buick knows how to build a car, whether it's a base car or an upscale one. I just purchased a 2000 Park Avenue with 73000 miles, it purrs like a kitten. First Buick I have ever owned and I am definitely satisfied with it, i know it will be a very dependable car especially with that 3800 V6.
It needs a new exhaust. Over all, however, it looks pretty good and quite comfortable. When you talk about the big 3, I like more General Motors vehicles, having Oldsmobile and Cadillac as my favourite ones.
And for 75K mileS (I bet on 175, or maybe even on 275K miles), it could be better, but its showing to be a good warrior.
Thank you very much for sharing, Kyle! Good vibes.
@DerAdventurer I kinda like the way it sounds makes it sound like a older car and since its a 25 year old car its aantique car but then again I have always like the 80 Model cars.
There's a "magic" resonance around 2500 for these older V6s, even without the muffler as this video proved. Too bad GM did something to get rid of this awesome sound by the time the LG8 rolled out (which was what was in my Malibu I had).
If Wikipedia is correct, that's the LE2 version with the 2bbl carb - something I thought was extinct by 1986 in those cars!
God, that thing sounds sooo mean! I love the sound of the older GM V6's and have since I was a kid. I had an '88 Century Custom as my 2nd car. It was similar to this, but it wasn't anywhere near as loaded and it had the 2.5 "Iron Duke" 4 Cylinder in it. It leaked Power Steering fluid pretty bad, but it was still a good car. Wish it would have had the V6, though.
haha I actually like it ... would be great for local trips to the grocery store and the little 2.8 liter should be good on gas. don't have to worry about it getting dinged or anything lol
was there a reason to show an exhaust clip twice? even if u give it more gas the 2nd time. who cares. love seeing older cars/trucks. just goes to show u how fast things change year to year.
There are few little old lady owned all original ones of these running around in the Greater Hudson Valley New York area and some are in almost pristine condition (surprising with the amount of snow we get up here)
The radio probablly does work it is the power switch on the head unit. Those older Delco radios had a problem with the switches. Here is how I fixed the radio switch on a Chevy Celebrity.Buy a pack of gum chew a few pieces remove switch and stilck chewed gum in there. All fixed ha ha!
she sounds sweet. redline for a good time muahaha. 75K miles is low as hell for an 86 if the odometer is actually correct. the interior is a bit rough and some of the controls don't work but the exterior doesn't look half bad. It doesn't look rusty at all!
When you do vehicles at an auction, do they usually already have the keys in them or do you have to ask permission to gain access to them, start them and drive them?
every time theres a tour on an old beater, I'd imagine whoever buys it will think to themself, "So please MTV, Pimp my ride!" Speaking of which, it would be interesting if a car featured on Pimp my Ride was sold by the owner and ended up at one of the dealers or at this auction in NC for Kyle to review.
I need a winter car, and this would be awesome, I am only put off by the windshield cracks. It would not pass inspection with those in NY. I would put a Cherry Bomb/Thrush type muffler on it and be gone. And if you slide into a snow bank, opps, throw it in reverse and continue on...lol. I love it.
nothing is working in the car, everything is either scratched, broken or not working. The only think working is the engine and you can expect anytime for it to turn off. lol, nice video anyways, from a brand new durango to a rusty old buick
I notice you left the key in it when you shut it down. I guess you're not afraid someone might steal it. ;-) Actually, for a 25 year old car, it is in remarkable shape.
@GmTruckCarLove The body panels are straight and free of rust. The engine runs smoothly. The seats are in decent condition. Simple things like a paintjob, new carpet, and headliner would make a huge difference on that car. It probably has 275,000 miles on it and it was obviously never intended to be a show car. Given it's age and probable miles, it is good shape.
Man I LOVE the 80's Centuries. I love the dash design. Our old Mechanic used to drive a 1989, it was in horrible cosmetic shape, but he kept it running like new. It had over 300,000 miles when he got rid of it.
i dont really like to see the new cars.mostly just fast forward to the stuff that is interesting but reviews of cars like these make are fun to watch.even full length.i always imagine how nice it would be if someone restored cars like this one
@RapiDEraZeR I agree, a full original restoration would be well worth while! people tend to restore older cars, but in 20 years time a restored one of these would be very desirable. Buy one now whilst there still cheap!
I love those old buicks. Thats an awesome sounding V6. I actually like the older cars better. I do like how you have a great variety on here. Everything from a lamborghini to a old 60'd car. or even a John Deere :)
I have the Oldsmobile version of this car, the Cutlass Ciera. They fall apart as all GMs do, BUT they are beasty little cars. Iron-strong engine and go forever. 200+ K on it and still going strong with maybe $2k of work over the years.

I definitely see some Chevrolet Celebrity DNA in this old Buick, but it is in a charming way. Great video as always, Kyle! :D

My grandmother had one of these things nice riding cars,
Ravmunken1997 10 months ago
I used to have one just like that! Only mine was burgundy, with a classy burgundy vinal top :)
But it had the old 4 banger. Literally, no power. At all...

@ukraina95 More annoying than that old SAAB 900 convertible?

I notice you left the key in it when you shut it down. I guess you're not afraid someone might steal it. ;-) Actually, for a 25 year old car, it is in remarkable shape.

@RCH45ACP Its in pretty shitty shape. Even for a 25 year old car.
GmTruckCarLove 10 months ago
@GmTruckCarLove The body panels are straight and free of rust. The engine runs smoothly. The seats are in decent condition. Simple things like a paintjob, new carpet, and headliner would make a huge difference on that car. It probably has 275,000 miles on it and it was obviously never intended to be a show car. Given it's age and probable miles, it is good shape.

@RCH45ACP You said Remarkable, not good. This is one of the shittyist cars I have seen for a long time.

Not to mention driving something with a little personality like this old warhorse as a daily would beat the hell out of a boring-ass civirolla

Man that really doesn't sound like a 2.8 V6! It sounds like a V8.

Limited?
It's missing the voltmeter and temperature gauge on the dash.
Great video!!

I love these old car videos. I try to imagine what they were like when they were still in the showroom.

RapiDEraZeR 10 months ago
@RapiDEraZeR I agree, a full original restoration would be well worth while! people tend to restore older cars, but in 20 years time a restored one of these would be very desirable. Buy one now whilst there still cheap!

There's something really appealing about 1980's American cars. They look so comfortable and well made, not to mention the attention to detail!

Love the sound of old school GM V6s. weak, but had a very distinctive rumble.
gajda1984 10 months ago
@gajda1984 Yeah, one with a lazy V8 would be awesome!
