Citizens of Osage County, KS once elected a cocker spaniel to the office of "Registrar of Deeds." Unfortunately, a voting booth irregularity forced election officials to call a "do over" before the winner could take office. Didn't matter though. Turned out the dog had been dead for several months prior to the election anyway. True story.
