you didnt do a good job trying to clean the brass here, first, brass is harder to clean than other metals, so the solution for it is a bit different, you have to use something like 50% water, 50% vinegar and a few drops of dish soap. second, it takes more than one cycle for brass due to it being hard to clean, three cycles (18 minutes) with the mentioned solution gets them sparkly clean, there are a few videos on youtube showing this.
@lskw1 lol, its all good, you should make another video trying to clean brass using my advice, im sure that after 3 or 4 cycles you will get the brass to be factory clean if not better.
@rusty815 at the time i made this video I didn't reload, but i do now, so I just use my tumbler, May not get it as sparkling clean, but im able to do more volume, Im using a 550B so she can really pump em out
@lskw1 your cleaner should be good for about 150-200 pieces of .308 brass, I guess if you need to clean more at once a tumbler is better, but an ultrasonic cleaner is just as effective and takes a lot less time (should be less than an hour from putting them in the cleaner to drying using the lowest setting in an oven).
hey, thanks for uploading this. i appreciate your time. you have not wasted anybody's time. you have shown us that this is not the way we want to go. and that is a success! now we'll go in another direction.
I use that same machine with a little dishwashing liquid, vinegar, and warm water. This cleans the brass, (but probably too much since it leaves the brass with a dull finish. I may use less vinegar. I clean the brass by hand, deprime it, and then put it in the ultrasonic cleaning machine last.
@oilhammer04 at the time i made this vid it didn't reload, now i do and i just clean the brass in a tumbler, i used to get all crazy and deprime before cleaning but it never seems to be an issue if i don't so...
@lskw1 Well fer that thar one... well takes you nice piece b'out four by 7 inches and hold one end in the liquid a couple of inches for a couple of minutes, I guess. But then you should starts tah c's litt'r holes appear'n on it likes. Oh... yeah, and they say that yah shouldn't out'r be a putting nothing straight down on the bottom without tah basket or'n yah mitt'nt spoil the pizzeo transducer out or make it not clean as well cos of it dampening the acustic coupling out of er in'll!
When I use Hornady's ultrasonic cleaner made for brass in my Harbor Freight ultrasonic machine, I get excellent results! It comes down to using the right tool for the job.
If you use water only with a drop of Dawn diswasher liquid, this cleaner only cleans about 16 cases of 45 ACP or .308 with four 8 minute cylces. It works much better with a solution of Lemi-Shine or powdered Citric Acid, but just like the Hornady unit, it's the chemicals doing most of the work . If you use vinegar, you must be sure to neutralize it with a cycle or two in a solution of baking soda, otherwise your brass will turn pink in a few days.
The solution you use for cleaning is important. I have tried several recipes in my sonic cleaner and the best so far has been 1 tsp. Lemi-Shine and a little dawn dish washing detergent per 1 quart of water. It takes 16 to 24 minutes to clean a basket full of brass. The solution turns black. There may still be some discoloration but it is clean. If you remove the primers it will clean the primer pockets too.
My video I had was fake, I only fire 50 rounds per year and I don't own a brass tumbler. I sent my brass off to a company and they cleaned it in a washing machine.
Well I wouldn't consider a total waist of time....'cause I'm going to get myself one. Got a Harbor Freight store near me and will go get one soon. Why? Cause I can do the same shit heh......
a little vinegar in the water will make the brass shine like new money.i use my ultrasonic cleaner with a commercial solution to clean brass and it works very well, but i have used vinegar it works too.great series of vids bro,GOD bless!
Water and dish soap is best, or ultrasonic brass cleaning solution. Ultrasonic cleaners are good for cleaning dirt out of your brass when a vibratory tumbler and walnut media just wont get the job done. Making sure the dirt is out of your case necks also prolongs the life and reduces wear on your expander ball. Get the right stuff for the job and it will get it done.
