What is it with big dogs being such babies about getting baths? I could see little dogs freaking out because they think they might drown, but I hear about all these little dogs being fine with baths. I have had two Akitas and they are even worse about bathing than this husky. :/

hose is not any colder than letting your dog jump in a lake or the ocean. My husky is the same way shes flips if the waters cold but loves warm baths and my lab freaks in warm water but thinks the hose is the best thing ever made

Husky shouldn't mind the water temperature, whenever I giving a bath to my one his skin is always dry thanks to his fur. These dogs are used to -30 temperatures - I doubt the cold water is causing him grief. He's just being fussy. I know kids that fuss and squirm like this when their parents give them a bath. It isn't torture.

I don't care how hot or cold the water is, BOTH of my dogs hate getting bathed. I have to get in the bathtub with them and hold them so my boyfriend can lather them, etc. We keep the water on a warm-lukewarm temp. and they (esp. my German Shepherd/Dobie mix) haaattteeeee it. She won't even follow us into the bathroom anymore lol

Huskies love snow, but hate cold water bath. Do you wanna to show your dog love and respect for him? Bath him warm water ever. U might like cold water bath, but huskies have another nature. I always bathed my sib. with warm water and never had a problem at all. Hope this helps.

My dog had ever cry like this when I was bathing him. Then my neighbor shew up and speak " It's good if you give your dog a food sometime". He said like I never give my dog a food. :B
I remember how our Mally once get so dirty that we have no other choice as put her under shower... she cryed out of blue murder so loud that i was afraid that someone will call police ^_^.
Our vet told us that mallys and huskies are huge crybabies for no reason when our dog get standard vaccines set following by crescendo of complains from her.
Sadly she passes year ago from cancer complications in age of 13 :(

Huskies cry and scream and WAIL in the bath! They want you to STOP BATHING THEM NOW. Never give in! They'll KNOW somehow they have POWER over you, and from there on it's all downhill. PLUS: RINSING is much MORE IMPORTANT than soaping. It's hard with their thick fur, but part it and get your hose DOWN TO THE SKIN!
On point exactly. My 8 week old husky goes apeshit when I put her in the bath. She tries jumping out of the tub and then slides around as the water gets near her. She stands in the back of the tub to avoid it lol.
Puppies don't need to be bathed unless they get into something (mud, roll in poop, whatever), or they have way too many fleas (can get anemic!). Huskies don't need much bathing anyway; they have very little skin oil, so dirt doesn't stick to them (it falls off on your clean carpet!!). They don't smell doggy -- you know that smell -- they tend to pick up smells around them, like a fresh cotton sweater would. I used to bake cookies, and my K9s would smell like cookies!! (Or my perfume - hugging)
Warm water's GREAT. (Please test the temperature on your hand first so you don't accidentally burn your dog.)

Northern breeds have an inborn aversion to water because if they got wet in freezing temps, they could freeze to death. Most dogs hate baths!! But Northern breeds are extra-fussy babies about it....

No -- I had huskies for 33 years. I WISH they lived that long! I had 5 dogs that overlapped; we'd bring a new one home (they were almost all rescues) while we still had another dog, etc. But 33 years in the company of huskies is a LEARNING PROCESS!! Yikes!

The temperature of the water is really not that important. Warm water activates the shampoo better.....Cold water's uncomfortable, sure. But huskies are trying to train you to never bathe them! Listen to this dog talk -- he's really trying hard to talk you out of it.
My dog used to not like his baths/showers, but would behave. I'd have to tie him up until he was dry cause he'd go run and roll in the dirt. He didn't cry though...sigh...I miss him.

Its instinctive for huskies to dislike the water. In the cold a sled dog falling in water or getting their coats wet means freezing to death. Has nothing to do with cold water temp.
You couldn't be more right. Today my husky was outside playing and got into our ditch and was running through the mud. Needless to say she was FILTHY! I had my girlfriend collar her and leash her while I hosed her down ... as soon as I put the shampoo on however she started to go insane.... Fed her treats to show her it was ok and she is now clean and happy!
They LIKE the cold. We went up to Truckee one winter, and our male wanted to sit on the porch. So we got his rope and tied him to the porch, and he lay down in the snow, letting the new snowfall cover him. It was 17F out there! He would NOT come inside, he wanted to be COLD. They're lunatics.
@DrSooz they stay hot when covered in snow. Huskys were used when the north/south poles first were discovered, caus of their ability to cheat the cold.
My husky use to love baths, now he's attention span is too short to stay still when I'm bathing him. It's such a mission and then after comes the grooming (sigh) hehe
lol Yeah, my dog (a little schnauzer) doesn't go near the abthromm lol. But when I carry her into there and shut the door, she jumps right into the tub. She's quite smart about things. She knows she might as well hold still so it'll be over faster, and she knows she'll get a treat afterwards. XD But yeah, as soon as I let her outside again she goes right to her little spot in the back where she hunts for lizards ALL DAY. lol (Shes only caught 1 so far). Haha, even on walks she goes for'em.
Don't get many lizards here in the uk, but shes pounced on a few field mice when out walking..I don't encourge it, but somehow that nose finds em!!!!..huskies...dont you just love em!
They're beautiful, I'd want one if it wasn't for th fact that I live in FLorida, one of the warmer American states. Hey Husj=kys are some of the most similar dogs to wolves, so I'm sure they have more of that hunting instinct in them still than other dogs further from the line. At least he's not after a moose like a pack would be. x)
I can shower my dog with hot or cold water ... but, she'll cry and squirm even more than this, so I always end up getting the shower instead.

Puppies don't need to be bathed unless they get into something (mud, roll in poop, whatever), or they have way too many fleas (can get anemic!). Huskies don't need much bathing anyway; they have very little skin oil, so dirt doesn't stick to them (it falls off on your clean carpet!!). They don't smell doggy -- you know that smell -- they tend to pick up smells around them, like a fresh cotton sweater would. I used to bake cookies, and my K9s would smell like cookies!! (Or my perfume - hugging)

Northern breeds have an inborn aversion to water because if they got wet in freezing temps, they could freeze to death. Most dogs hate baths!! But Northern breeds are extra-fussy babies about it....

The way you're hosing the dog down isn't correct. Get the hose down deep, to the SKIN. Otherwise you'll have skin probs!
And rinse, rinse, rinse, RINSE, RINSE!!!! Then rinse some more!! Leaving any shampoo behind will attract more dirt, and cause skin irritation.

No -- I had huskies for 33 years. I WISH they lived that long! I had 5 dogs that overlapped; we'd bring a new one home (they were almost all rescues) while we still had another dog, etc. But 33 years in the company of huskies is a LEARNING PROCESS!! Yikes!

The temperature of the water is really not that important. Warm water activates the shampoo better.....Cold water's uncomfortable, sure. But huskies are trying to train you to never bathe them! Listen to this dog talk -- he's really trying hard to talk you out of it.

My dog used to not like his baths/showers, but would behave. I'd have to tie him up until he was dry cause he'd go run and roll in the dirt. He didn't cry though...sigh...I miss him.

Its instinctive for huskies to dislike the water. In the cold a sled dog falling in water or getting their coats wet means freezing to death. Has nothing to do with cold water temp.

You couldn't be more right. Today my husky was outside playing and got into our ditch and was running through the mud. Needless to say she was FILTHY! I had my girlfriend collar her and leash her while I hosed her down ... as soon as I put the shampoo on however she started to go insane.... Fed her treats to show her it was ok and she is now clean and happy!

They LIKE the cold. We went up to Truckee one winter, and our male wanted to sit on the porch. So we got his rope and tied him to the porch, and he lay down in the snow, letting the new snowfall cover him. It was 17F out there! He would NOT come inside, he wanted to be COLD. They're lunatics.

lol Yeah, my dog (a little schnauzer) doesn't go near the abthromm lol. But when I carry her into there and shut the door, she jumps right into the tub. She's quite smart about things. She knows she might as well hold still so it'll be over faster, and she knows she'll get a treat afterwards. XD But yeah, as soon as I let her outside again she goes right to her little spot in the back where she hunts for lizards ALL DAY. lol (Shes only caught 1 so far). Haha, even on walks she goes for'em.

They're beautiful, I'd want one if it wasn't for th fact that I live in FLorida, one of the warmer American states. Hey Husj=kys are some of the most similar dogs to wolves, so I'm sure they have more of that hunting instinct in them still than other dogs further from the line. At least he's not after a moose like a pack would be. x)
