  • I just bought one of these for $25 on Amazon!!! Ha! Ha! You paid $50!

  • As a professional astronomer for my entire life, I found this quite useful. I'm going to buy the recording Come Home by EnV. As for a telescope, I already have professional equipment that you cannot have for less than hundreds and thousands. The general public is very misinformed. Of course a 50 dollar toy cannot compete with a 3000 dollar Celestron 11 Cassegrain. The moral is that you get what you pay for. See you local astronomy clubs for best advice and free star parties. • I like the telescope (own one) and I like the music.

  • I need some help! I got this telescope a while back, and too be honest, I have tried too look at planets like jupiter, mars, saturn... and all I see is a tiny dot. I have put in the lens to magnify it to the biggest image and still nothing! You have zoomed in really well on the moon! How do you do this?!... HELP!

  • @Badondeee Are you sure you know what you're looking at? Also, don't expect to see much detail with the telescope or most other telescopes. The moon shows up really well in the telescope though.

  • @Badondeee If you want to see Jupiter then you gonna need to get something like the 127-130 MM or higher.

  • thats such a cute telescope I want one

  • Love the moon rise close to the end

  • Hi good video love telescopes

  • What was that at 2:33?

  • this is £30 pounds as you said 50 dollars. so this is good for the price eh? can you see planets with it? cheers

  • I'm glad someone else realizes what a bargain the FirstScope is.

  • The music is terrible.

  • Lol man, nobody asked you.

  • @anonymousstormchaser You know what man you're right. Nobody did ask me. But this is a website which is viewable by the public, so if you are going to create content and put it out there for anyone to watch you need to understand that sometimes people who see it will have an opinion. It's not that you have to be personally offended or get upset about it. It's just one of those things. Even if you make a perfect video which is loved by millions you will always have one person who thinks it sucks.

  • Understandable, but I would hope that somebody giving their opinion would be a little more constructive, Maybe suggesting me to publish videos without sound tracks and stay with normal sound.

  • @anonymousstormchaser I'm wasn't criticising you, your video, or your production techniques, I just thought that the music was terrible. I don't want to get into an argument with you either, I'm just saying if you're going to make videos you have to accept that not every comment will be favourable.

  • Okay, thanks for the comment anyway. :)

  • @anonymousstormchaser He is right though ;)

Thanks for the review! I am going to buy one of these at Amazon for $23.

  • @ncl47 I agree the music does suck! In fact it sucks almost as bad as your grammar! I have the same scope and it does it's job really well for the money.

  • @ncl47 no one really gives a fuck what you think... :)

  • @lucariorox54 Oh I see. Well thank you for letting me know. I didn't realise that, otherwise I never would have said anything. I am so sorry for wasting your time with my comment. In fact, I am sorry that I even disliked the music. I will now reconsider my whole life and put things into context based on what you've told me. I am such a sad pathetic loser that I shouldn't even be here so thanks for making me realise that. You are a great person and I will always remember you.

  • @ncl47 yea you are :)

  • @ncl47 i found it catchy and upbeat, like someone techno remixed some yodling

  • They gave this away at my school for national science week

  • Music is really annoying...

  • Get over it.

  • Great video! thanks :)

  • thanks 4 the review now i can buy the telescope the one i am going to buy cost $35.00 it from electronics

  • thanks 4 the review now i can buy the telescope

  • whats a decent telescope cheapiest...that u cant atleast see some planets?????

  • Just bought it and had to exchange for new one because one of the support knobs came broken off. Those knobs are screwed onto the base with a very short tapered screw to a cardboard like material. Therefore, the threads are not held in securely. Repeated torsional force while adjusting azimuth, and the shear forces applied if it was accidentally dragged along the table will cause it to break. I recommend glue gunning around each knob where it meets the base to provide some strain relief.

  • I will do it and thx for all

  • No problem. :) Remember, don't ever feel discouraged from a hobby if there is a technical problem or if your inexperienced. Even the most famous Astronomers today were once in your position using little amateur telescopes.

  • and before you ask yes I change to 20Mn and the Moon was just Ok

it was still better with my 7 x 35 ninoculars

and when I change to the 4mn it is just an giant ball even if I zoom in and zoom out

  • I am probably an big dumb, I bought the telescope today and I looked to the Moon

however the moon was just too bright (full moon) I could not see nothing only an giant bright Ball

probbaly the cause was that I did not use the telescope over an table? in my hand

or probably cause I looked the moon from my bed room with the window closed

however I am not disappointed it still an good decoration stuff

  • Well the best time to look at the moon with a telescope is half moon. Because the shadow adds contrast to its craters. Second of all, were you using the focus dial? If the focus dial isn't working and the moon still appears as a featureless ball, then i recommend taking it back and getting an exchange for the same telescope.

  • @anonymousstormchaser

thank you for the reply and the advices,,,with focus dial you meant the wheel to zoom in and zoom out? yes it work perfectly and so the wheel that make the telesocpe unmovable

I think it is due to my lack of skill (for not use worst word)

as I said I am not disapoined but it is an turn off for me concerning astronomy

if I can make an telescope work correctly I guess I should not study solar system and universe any more

  • I know which wheel your talking about, the wheel that you think is "zooming in and out" is actually the focus dial. It just makes the moon appear bigger with a softer focus. I doubt that it has to do with skill. I really think that it is a problem with the telescope, not how you are using it. Take it back to where you bought it and explain your problem, I'm sure the employee's will allow you to replace it :)

  • @alainaiso I have an Orion FunScope which is exactly the same thing as your FirstScope (except the FunScope has a nice finder and better lenses). The problem with these is the mirrors. There are two kinds of mirrors in reflecting telescopes: spherical mirrors or parabolic mirrors. Our telescopes have spherical mirrors, which are a very bad thing to have in a short telescope. There is no way to get a sharp focus. Always get a parabolic mirror scope like the Orion Skyscanner.

  • lol the music is a little random

  • Thanks for the review!

  • I have the Celestron 50th Anniversary Edition of this scope and love it. I made a solar filter for it using Seymour Solar Film ($9 a sheet) and it makes a great scope for viewing sun spots. It's real advantage is it's portability. However, the eyepieces that come with it are only so so.

  • Thanks for the video but you should have left the music off.

  • I'd rather buy binoculars.. 15x 70

  • Is that Venus at 2:34?

Nice vid by the way, going to be upgrading my 4.5" to an XT8 soon.

  • No, that wasn't Venus. I didn't know what it was at the time.

  • You can find this for $35 with free shipping now. I've just started looking a few scopes and most reviews said this was a deal at $50 so it must be worth it at $35.

  • I have also experienced grave difficulty using this scope. Maybe it is because the finderscope is situated in such a strange place? I couldn't even focus the darned thing on the moon. What do you think? Did you get good views of things with the FirstScope?

  • You got to see more with the firstscope than I did...I couldn't even focus on the moon. Maybe it is because the finderscope is placed in a werid location? I see that you also purchased the Skyblast 6 (nice video of SkyBlast, by the way).. I am interested in purchasing the Skyblast 4.5. Do you consider that a better choice than the Celestron FirstScope? I am interested in portability.

  • What if I want to look at something other than the moon, I want to be able to at least see mars or something. I don't know what to buy.

  • Just ordered one for my wife's birthday (35 bucks with free shipping on Amazon).

But is there a special adapter or something one needs to hook a video camera up to it?

  • @ubersteigen no, the cameras are just crafty additions people put to film into youtube.

  • i got one of these about a week ago and absolutely love it .. it has some really good views actually, and for $50 you just cant beat it .. dont get me wrong though its not OMGAWESOME, it has its flaws, and is extremely hard to get this thing perfectly collimated, but it most definately gets the job done .. and its quick grab-n-go design is unbeatable .. my big scope is so bulky and takes forever to setup, but this little guy i can grab it and a beer and in less than a minute im good to go...

  • You can get it for 34$ from National Geographic.

  • @BolnoyBratchny and $35 at amazon.com

  • they are not called optical lenses they are called eyepeices:)

  • Maybe, you dont know what to look at. Also look at my other telescope review, its a much better telescope

  • Comment removed

  • @gallowspole If you are observing from dark enough skies it is said that even with a 1" relfector you can see most messier objects. This is obviously a beginners telescope but I wouldn't say it sucks.

  • im gunna get this scope now :D nice review and nice quality lunar footage

im really interested in astronomy and just wanted a cheap telescope just so i could see planets and stuff and i cant wait to get one, this telscope costs £30 in the uk so im definately gunna get it :D

  • When I got my Celestron FirstScope Telescope I use to look at the sun for hours.

  • Nice, had fun?

  • @hexum4201 hahaha... You are funny person!!!!

  • oh sorry nevermind

  • its cool :)

  • what song is this?

  • theirs some telescopes in Amazon, but which one do u recommend me?, i want really want to see those saturn rings

  • Well in order to see saturns rings you need a telescope with a high focal length and an eye piece with a high magnification (like 4mm) I haven't seen Saturn yet so.

  • @anonymousstormchaser

a high magnification eyepiece is probably not the best option for a scope of this size...the included 20mm is best on the firstscope. A 4mm eyepiece will come with it but the results are not all that spectacular, unless yout table is very very stable or you're hugging the tube while prone on the grass/dirt

  • i got this telescope i want to see Saturn and Mars with a better view, what type of eyepiece should i get?

  • You can get the Firstscope Accessory kit. If you choose high quality lenses I suggest using a higher quality telescope with them.

  • Good song!

  • Really liked your vid got 1 of these today looking forward using it to see the moon when the cloud cover goes away. Did you just film through the lens to get your film of the moon there, thanks again for posting.

  • i got it. tried it for about 20 mins ago for the first time. and oh my god is this thing amazing

if you are thinking about buying it DO IT!!

  • oh man get rid of the music!

    cant hear you

  • nice vid, what was that last object you were looking at? was that also the moon?

  • Thank you, that was the moon going down behind Mt. San Jacinto.

  • I just bought a FirstScope myself yesterday, and haven't had a chance to use it yet. They are as easy to set up and use as a telescope can be, and I;m told they work surprisingly well. It should, however, be packed carefully for air travel - it's not delicate, for a telescope, but it's not unbreakable.

One small correction, regarding the term "astrology." Astrology involves fortune-telling and folklore, while astronomy deals with science and telescopes. This scope is for astronomers. :)

  • When did I mention astrology?

  • It's in the description, not the video.

  • its fixed now =D

  • So I see. This overly anal proofreader/amateur astronomer thanks you. :)

  • how is the packaging? do you think that this thing will surivive a trip from US to Sweden?

  • I don't quite remember, but I think that it will survive such a trip. Thanks for commenting.

  • Good review. Learned more from your video than from the Celestron promo. I did like your choice of music (and I'm in my 50s!). But I'm glad to hear that your camera was the prob and not the scope. You say you do get clear images??

Thanks, again, I'm always looking for affordable, easy to use stargazing equipment for the newcomers. Good job.

  • Thanks, Look at my video about my new telescope, its a lot better then this one.

  • It was a helpful review, thanks. I bought a Celestron SkyScout a few months ago and would quite like to buy a telescope to go with it (when I can afford it!), so it's really useful to see personal reviews like this. I didn't even notice your ums and ahs - and I didn't mind the music either. Good job!

  • Thanks! I just finished the script for my review on my new telescope. It will be out soon if you want to subscribe. If not thats cool :) Clear skies.

  • either this telescope sucks or your camera sucks?

  • Mabey both. Explain.

  • well either the lens isnt that good and make's it look wavy or the camera is just bad and has bad resolution and image stabiliattion. does the moon look a lot clearer than tis video when you look throught it with your eye?

  • Oh! well the moon looked a lot clearer through the telescope and the camera i use isnt designed to be used with a telescope. I was just looking through the eye piece with it.

  • ok. thats good to hear.

  • Good review.I got one for my kids but just remember for future reviews that the music ruins review type videos.I was highly distracted from your review.I heard more techno music than your voice.I looked around the screen for a pop up ad then realized you put it in.clear skies.

  • Great.. I am buying it this week. Do you think the extra accessories are worth the 25 dollars? I do have an eyepiece kit already from Celestron but I want the finder scope.

  • For Christmas I got an Orion Starblast 6 which blows this telescope out of the water. Anyway, the accessory kit was barely worth the 25 dollars. I got it for the finderscope but the finder scope is terribly out of focus and the focusing thing doesnt work on it.

  • Download Celestron Firstscope pdf maual, so y dont get upside down viewing !

  • It is normal for the view on the firstscope to be upside down.

  • this telescope wasn't $50 ...

  • Yes it was.

  • nice video....

  • Orion StarBlast 4,5

    + Better Focal length: 450mm

    + EZ Finder II reflex sight - Weight 13 Lbs = 5.8 Kg - Cost 199 $ - 2003 rewards !

    FirstScope Telescope

    + Price $49.99 or less !

    + Weight 69oz ( 2kg )

    + It's newer, 2009 rewards ! - EZ Finder II reflex sight ! ( on it ? ) - Focal length 300mm

I ordered the FirstScope Telescope !

  • The star finder and a few extra lenses come seperately in a kit that you can order online. The star finder for the firstscope sucks, I seriously cant wait for christmas, I asked for a nice telescope.

  • Should get the Orion Starblast 6. Only thing is that its a bit heavy.

  • says "um" and "uh" too much, be conscious of that in the future :)

  • yeah i know. when i make another narrated video ill consider a script so that i know what to say instead of just blabbering. Thanks for the comment! =D

  • At 2:28, what the hell are you looking at?? It has to be terrestial or it's an artrifact of the mirror. Maybe looking through a house window?

  • actually its a star that i guess wouldnt focus in the camera. I had no knowledge of objects in the sky so i just pointed the scope at random stars and video taped them as well as that moon that goes down behind the mountain.

  • I have family in South Dakota, where the skies are amazingly dark. I needed a good scope that travels easily and doesn't take up a lot of room. This wonderful scope is IT. GREAT views, inexpensive, and easy to transport anywhere. GET ONE!

  • NIce Review and great pictures! Thx for that!

But please: Turn off that horrible music! ;-)

  • : / thanks.....

  • Celestron has a high quality optics :)

even with orion and meade ;D

  • yup :) thanks for subscribing!

  • ;;)

  • Wow that's amazing. Thanks for posting!

  • Great scope. POSITIVE review in the October "Sky and Telescope." But I think you mean "If you are interested in ASTRONOMY . . . " Astrology is a non-science which believes that the constellations have some influence on our lives. Not the scientific study of the universe.

  • i said astrology??? i thought i said astronomy. lol my mom belives in astrology and i find it rediculous. thanks for the comment

  • look for saturn i think u might of mist it though? the moon should be great now its half a moon look at the terminator ?

    clear skys

    peace

  • I still dont have any luck whith my celestron i cant find anything in the sky.

It is proberly because of the time and where i am im in england

can you help me on what to do and what size lense will i need for jupiter thnx

  • do you have the same telescope as i do?. At first you should deffinately use the 20mm cuz it has a wider field of view. In england jupiter should still rise in the east . Again, jupiter will be a very bright star looking object but up close will be a white circle with moons next to it. Any more questions PM me

  • Did you take the black plastic dust-cover off?

  • great vid, could i have link to this song? 50 dollars is a great price for that

  • link is in desvription now :)

  • Wow! Great quality for the price!! Nice review!

  • where and when do i look to see jupiter and saturn please

  • Jupiter is very easy to see at night. Especially this summer, Tonight if you look to the east or the south east you will see a very bright white star. That star is jupiter and through the celeston firstscope you can see the moons next to it. I dont know much about saturn but i think it pops up in the early morning with venus and mars right before sunrise. Thanks for comenting for any other questions PM me!

  • thanks you have really helpped me

  • no problem!

  • what is it that you can see at 2:31 please

  • idk at 2:31 this was my first night and i just pointed my telescope at random stars without any knowledge of any constellations.

  • You need guidance! Find a dark place and point your scope at the cloud of stars above Sagittarius ("the teapot.). Then scan the area -- there is MUCH to see, clusters, nebulae and bright double stars.

  • i know. sagittarius is the best constellation for the summer! ill be heading to a dark spot when the weather clears up and our wildfires die down and theres not as much smoke in the air

  • Not a bad video haha kinda reminded me of blunty3000 but what are you doing spending 50 bucks on a telescope when you need to get a new comp/xbox????!!

  • cool video... i was just wondering how did you record/take pictures of the moon and the stars with the firstscope..

or did you just aim the camera in the eye viewer in the telescope??

  • to take that video i put the camera against the eyepiece. It works better then i expected but i dont know how i am going to get long expoure photographs. Thanks for commenting
