I need some help! I got this telescope a while back, and too be honest, I have tried too look at planets like jupiter, mars, saturn... and all I see is a tiny dot. I have put in the lens to magnify it to the biggest image and still nothing! You have zoomed in really well on the moon! How do you do this?!... HELP!
@Badondeee Are you sure you know what you're looking at? Also, don't expect to see much detail with the telescope or most other telescopes. The moon shows up really well in the telescope though.
@anonymousstormchaser You know what man you're right. Nobody did ask me. But this is a website which is viewable by the public, so if you are going to create content and put it out there for anyone to watch you need to understand that sometimes people who see it will have an opinion. It's not that you have to be personally offended or get upset about it. It's just one of those things. Even if you make a perfect video which is loved by millions you will always have one person who thinks it sucks.
Understandable, but I would hope that somebody giving their opinion would be a little more constructive, Maybe suggesting me to publish videos without sound tracks and stay with normal sound.
@anonymousstormchaser I'm wasn't criticising you, your video, or your production techniques, I just thought that the music was terrible. I don't want to get into an argument with you either, I'm just saying if you're going to make videos you have to accept that not every comment will be favourable.
@ncl47 I agree the music does suck! In fact it sucks almost as bad as your grammar! I have the same scope and it does it's job really well for the money.
@lucariorox54 Oh I see. Well thank you for letting me know. I didn't realise that, otherwise I never would have said anything. I am so sorry for wasting your time with my comment. In fact, I am sorry that I even disliked the music. I will now reconsider my whole life and put things into context based on what you've told me. I am such a sad pathetic loser that I shouldn't even be here so thanks for making me realise that. You are a great person and I will always remember you.
Just bought it and had to exchange for new one because one of the support knobs came broken off. Those knobs are screwed onto the base with a very short tapered screw to a cardboard like material. Therefore, the threads are not held in securely. Repeated torsional force while adjusting azimuth, and the shear forces applied if it was accidentally dragged along the table will cause it to break. I recommend glue gunning around each knob where it meets the base to provide some strain relief.
No problem. :) Remember, don't ever feel discouraged from a hobby if there is a technical problem or if your inexperienced. Even the most famous Astronomers today were once in your position using little amateur telescopes.
Well the best time to look at the moon with a telescope is half moon. Because the shadow adds contrast to its craters. Second of all, were you using the focus dial? If the focus dial isn't working and the moon still appears as a featureless ball, then i recommend taking it back and getting an exchange for the same telescope.
thank you for the reply and the advices,,,with focus dial you meant the wheel to zoom in and zoom out? yes it work perfectly and so the wheel that make the telesocpe unmovable
I think it is due to my lack of skill (for not use worst word)
as I said I am not disapoined but it is an turn off for me concerning astronomy
if I can make an telescope work correctly I guess I should not study solar system and universe any more
I know which wheel your talking about, the wheel that you think is "zooming in and out" is actually the focus dial. It just makes the moon appear bigger with a softer focus. I doubt that it has to do with skill. I really think that it is a problem with the telescope, not how you are using it. Take it back to where you bought it and explain your problem, I'm sure the employee's will allow you to replace it :)
@alainaiso I have an Orion FunScope which is exactly the same thing as your FirstScope (except the FunScope has a nice finder and better lenses). The problem with these is the mirrors. There are two kinds of mirrors in reflecting telescopes: spherical mirrors or parabolic mirrors. Our telescopes have spherical mirrors, which are a very bad thing to have in a short telescope. There is no way to get a sharp focus. Always get a parabolic mirror scope like the Orion Skyscanner.
I have the Celestron 50th Anniversary Edition of this scope and love it. I made a solar filter for it using Seymour Solar Film ($9 a sheet) and it makes a great scope for viewing sun spots. It's real advantage is it's portability. However, the eyepieces that come with it are only so so.
You can find this for $35 with free shipping now. I've just started looking a few scopes and most reviews said this was a deal at $50 so it must be worth it at $35.
I have also experienced grave difficulty using this scope. Maybe it is because the finderscope is situated in such a strange place? I couldn't even focus the darned thing on the moon. What do you think? Did you get good views of things with the FirstScope?
You got to see more with the firstscope than I did...I couldn't even focus on the moon. Maybe it is because the finderscope is placed in a werid location? I see that you also purchased the Skyblast 6 (nice video of SkyBlast, by the way).. I am interested in purchasing the Skyblast 4.5. Do you consider that a better choice than the Celestron FirstScope? I am interested in portability.

im really interested in astronomy and just wanted a cheap telescope just so i could see planets and stuff and i cant wait to get one, this telscope costs £30 in the uk so im definately gunna get it :D
Well in order to see saturns rings you need a telescope with a high focal length and an eye piece with a high magnification (like 4mm) I haven't seen Saturn yet so.
a high magnification eyepiece is probably not the best option for a scope of this size...the included 20mm is best on the firstscope. A 4mm eyepiece will come with it but the results are not all that spectacular, unless yout table is very very stable or you're hugging the tube while prone on the grass/dirt

Really liked your vid got 1 of these today looking forward using it to see the moon when the cloud cover goes away. Did you just film through the lens to get your film of the moon there, thanks again for posting.
I just bought a FirstScope myself yesterday, and haven't had a chance to use it yet. They are as easy to set up and use as a telescope can be, and I;m told they work surprisingly well. Good review. Learned more from your video than from the Celestron promo. I did like your choice of music (and I'm in my 50s!). But I'm glad to hear that your camera was the prob and not the scope. You say you do get clear images??

Great.. I am buying it this week. Do you think the extra accessories are worth the 25 dollars? I do have an eyepiece kit already from Celestron but I want the finder scope.
For Christmas I got an Orion Starblast 6 which blows this telescope out of the water. Anyway, the accessory kit was barely worth the 25 dollars. I got it for the finderscope but the finder scope is terribly out of focus and the focusing thing doesnt work on it.
The star finder and a few extra lenses come seperately in a kit that you can order online. The star finder for the firstscope sucks, I seriously cant wait for christmas, I asked for a nice telescope.
yeah i know. when i make another narrated video ill consider a script so that i know what to say instead of just blabbering. Thanks for the comment! =D
actually its a star that i guess wouldnt focus in the camera. I had no knowledge of objects in the sky so i just pointed the scope at random stars and video taped them as well as that moon that goes down behind the mountain.
I have family in South Dakota, where the skies are amazingly dark. I needed a good scope that travels easily and doesn't take up a lot of room. This wonderful scope is IT. GREAT views, inexpensive, and easy to transport anywhere. GET ONE!
Great scope. POSITIVE review in the October "Sky and Telescope." But I think you mean "If you are interested in ASTRONOMY . . . " Astrology is a non-science which believes that the constellations have some influence on our lives. Not the scientific study of the universe.
do you have the same telescope as i do?. At first you should deffinately use the 20mm cuz it has a wider field of view. In england jupiter should still rise in the east . Again, jupiter will be a very bright star looking object but up close will be a white circle with moons next to it. Any more questions PM me
Jupiter is very easy to see at night. Especially this summer, Tonight if you look to the east or the south east you will see a very bright white star. That star is jupiter and through the celeston firstscope you can see the moons next to it. I dont know much about saturn but i think it pops up in the early morning with venus and mars right before sunrise. Thanks for comenting for any other questions PM me!
You need guidance! Find a dark place and point your scope at the cloud of stars above Sagittarius ("the teapot.). Then scan the area -- there is MUCH to see, clusters, nebulae and bright double stars.
i know. sagittarius is the best constellation for the summer! ill be heading to a dark spot when the weather clears up and our wildfires die down and theres not as much smoke in the air
Not a bad video haha kinda reminded me of blunty3000 but what are you doing spending 50 bucks on a telescope when you need to get a new comp/xbox????!!
to take that video i put the camera against the eyepiece. It works better then i expected but i dont know how i am going to get long expoure photographs. Thanks for commenting

The star finder and a few extra lenses come seperately in a kit that you can order online. The star finder for the firstscope sucks, I seriously cant wait for christmas, I asked for a nice telescope.

At 2:28, what the hell are you looking at?? It has to be terrestial or it's an artrifact of the mirror. Maybe looking through a house window?
3epitide 2 years ago
actually its a star that i guess wouldnt focus in the camera.

Not the scientific study of the universe.

i said astrology??? i thought i said astronomy. lol my mom belives in astrology and i find it rediculous. thanks for the comment

It is proberly because of the time and where i am im in england
can you help me on what to do and what size lense will i need for jupiter thnx
XxXhazebabezXxX 2 years ago
do you have the same telescope as i do?. At first you should deffinately use the 20mm cuz it has a wider field of view. In england jupiter should still rise in the east . Again, jupiter will be a very bright star looking object but up close will be a white circle with moons next to it. Any more questions PM me

where and when do i look to see jupiter and saturn please
XxXhazebabezXxX 2 years ago
Jupiter is very easy to see at night. Especially this summer, Tonight if you look to the east or the south east you will see a very bright white star. That star is jupiter and through the celeston firstscope you can see the moons next to it. I dont know much about saturn but i think it pops up in the early morning with venus and mars right before sunrise. Thanks for comenting for any other questions PM me!

anonymousstormchaser 2 years ago
what is it that you can see at 2:31 please
XxXhazebabezXxX 2 years ago
idk at 2:31 this was my first night and i just pointed my telescope at random stars without any knowledge of any constellations.

You need guidance! Find a dark place and point your scope at the cloud of stars above Sagittarius ("the teapot.). Then scan the area -- there is MUCH to see, clusters, nebulae and bright double stars.
DRLIT 2 years ago
i know. sagittarius is the best constellation for the summer! ill be heading to a dark spot when the weather clears up and our wildfires die down and theres not as much smoke in the air

Not a bad video haha kinda reminded me of blunty3000 but what are you doing spending 50 bucks on a telescope when you need to get a new comp/xbox????!!
THEDUBOX 2 years ago
cool video... i was just wondering how did you record/take pictures of the moon and the stars with the firstscope..
or did you just aim the camera in the eye viewer in the telescope??
kingtnt00 2 years ago
to take that video i put the camera against the eyepiece. It works better then i expected but i dont know how i am going to get long expoure photographs. Thanks for commenting
