Interesting how the background changes as the foreground progresses. Also, don't imagine that many people would know what an old fashioned wheelchair looks like
nice work steve like the looseness of the outlines my only suggestion would be to paint the ribbon on the most forward gift red and prehaps a lesser tonal value red on the wheels and red highlighting on the front of the chair i think this would give greater depth just print out some colour copies and try it out then if u like it you can paint onto the original it may give it more vibrancy just my opinion mate!
@andybronzemaster Every fiber of my being wanted to paint the ribbons red but the one absolutely non negotiable condition placed on all nine of the paintings I'll be doing for this series was no red anywhere. I may still give them a call though.
The other change I will make is to turn the front wheels about 45 degrees to make it obvious that it is a wheelchair and as you suggest to get a lighter tone in play.
@artbystevejohnson ha damn ! next option lol think the 45 degree will be better as far as giving more depth and resolution to the form of the wheelchair instead of red use a very vibrant blue as highlights something close to an irradescent blue should work also otherwise use vibrant yellow
This is the first of 9 illustrations for the Chicago Street Theater's 2010 program. It may change or be redone but I figured this first hit was worth posting - let me know what you think - good or bad.
The play is The Man Who Came to Dinner.
The excellent music is by Ivan Chew aka Rambling Librarian. Loads of stuff released under CC license, well worth checking out.

@andybronzemaster I like the iridescent blue option, and that will stay within the brief so no revision will be required (hopefully)
