  • I saw this animation long years ago, and I was impressed... really very nice job, but why don't you continue making animations???

  • Well done I love your work.

That beats the hell out of a lot of professional movies I know.

  • Great job on the eyes' expressiveness, sets it apart from alot of other "realistic" homebrewn cgi animations.

  • Wat u doing now ??

  • With this hardware and 3ds max cannot make this animation. and addition your computer must have min. 128MB graphic and minimum 1.4GHz CPU for use 3ds Max in your computer. Either is your hardware fake or this animation. 32MB GeForce cannot have this graphic...Fake?

  • @Rypomaser Yes, the hardware stated is correct. I was using Windows NT and 3DS Max 3, which both used far less resources than future versions. My limitations, of course, were the lack of Displacement maps, Sub-Surface Scattering, Global Illumination, high density models, and real-time playback.

  • You are showing us great possibilities with only little!

  • great direction, what are you doing nowadays?

  • wow awesome....

  • That's so beautiful o.o...... I'm really impressed :D!

  • good facial emotions

  • dis is cool like REALLY COOL but for some reason tht baby scares me xD but its really cool lmfao

  • only 3 people are adopted o.e

  • "Ehh, pro work, but I've seen better..."

*Looks at date it was made*

    ...You sir, are amazing.

  • So REAL epic!

  • That work is amazing because from 2002. Today it's with some money very much easier to produce 3D-videos, special with BVH and a homesolution like OptiTrack. The story is great and the cameraline also. Best work until today, but also good is "Star Trek Aurora"!

  • the story made less sense than a japanese computer game : ) much even.

    pretty good character animation

  • We will have games with this graphic in 20 years :)

  • WELL IM JUST ASKING THAT IF I TRY TO MAKE THIS TYPE OF HIGH PROJECT SO WILL IT TAKE A YEAR ALSO?By the way Awsomes:D.Wll my pC is core i7 and 4 gb ram 512 mb video card

  • This reminds me of Silent Hill.

  • very impressive

  • very nice man!! Congratulations!!!

1 year to render????' Crazy!! You had to be 100% sure on every file!!

    Anyway, great job!!

  • you sir have my respect,

  • Talk about realism! Really, this was 2002? I can't wait to see what you can do with 2010 technology!

  • This was all done by hand no mocap? - Very nice fluid movement being done by hand (with the exception of the quirky jump on the rock - LOL) - I love the the shading and lighting at #t=6m21s

  • nice work man

  • I absolutely love the facial animation. Did you use motion capture?

  • @MotherOfAllFluffbuns no everythign they did was by hand :s according to his other video

  • damn ! I love this film ! you are monster !!!

  • what a sad scene.. lovely

  • I'm noticing all the minor mistakes here and there, like a mildly unnatural hop from the first rock to the second, but everything else is this video is realer than life itself is a lot of the time.

  • Masterpiece !!!

  • Makes me feel like I'm playing a video game and I'm watching a CGI cut scene :D I love it!

  • 2002?... This could easily be in a blockbuster 2009 movie Lol...

  • that was a huge one-man work for its time. discreet was exposing the clip in their sites . it was 2004 as far as i ve known . test rigs were awesome and far beyond of 3dsmax 4/5 versions . i appreciate his courage . good luck with "The Normals"

  • Holy shit, ive seen tones of things from liam kemp, but this worried me, ive seen it before, but not this part!! Like omg becareful she has a child, hes not her tho XD

  • Great to see this finally up on youtube!

  • What software did you use?

  • I use 3DS Max and Brazil for rendering

  • Best 3D-film from hobbyist on youtube. Great work!

  • i doubt this video was using source engine that made half-life 2. just look at the texture/shader similarity between left4dead and this video.

  • WOW!

  • Dang! the rendering of the character is teh best although the place is a bit off.

  • Esta perfeito, parabens!!!

  • Ever new interesting for me is that a great video like this has low views and a maniac like sxephil has with his bullshit millions of fews. Is there cheating in the play of sxephil?

  • this is the best animation i've seen, the attention to detail. all the expressions. the body language. the small movements. great timing too. the baby lack of realism. but the first scene. perfect.

  • the reason the baby is so creepy is because it does not behave like a real baby would. it has the psychology of a matured person almost.

when the lady jumps to the other rock, she lands unrealistically. the emotions of her face could be done batter too. honestly the only way to do it right is to study real people, real actors faces and track every little facial twitch/movement.

good job though as a home project.

  • That baby's from the uncanny valley. Really creepy. It's kinda hard to do something so realistic that it became creepy, so well done

  • They will in a few years :) i mean, look how far video games have come in just the last 5 years!

  • HELL.. wow.. what a damn realistic eye movement..

and some scenes look so real that I would call someone insane if I were told this was a 3d movie..

    Liam, you're a fuckin' genius!

  • why cant most things nowadays look like this i mean this was 5 years ago!

  • Do the real maths... it was 7-8 years ago!! It's really amazing...

  • What software was used to make this?

  • You can do this with every 3D Software like Maya, Lightwave, Poser etc. But it's many work and you must have a big knowledge about the programms. He has needed two years to make this movie!

  • I use 3DS Max and Brazil

  • the last minute of the video is missing....

  • This is holy...... With the hardware you are having, able to created such intense graphic is godly. Respect.

  • It's not really a matter of hardware. You could do the most amazing graphics the world has ever seen on an old Amiga, it would just take forever to render. When you're not rendering in real-time, you can afford to use less powerful hardware.

  • Oh i see, but this kind of detail is still very very stunning. Considering it coming from a one man project, its even more unbelievable. I'm not sure if I can even reach close to your standard in the future man....

  • Awesome work really realistic!!!!!

only 1 thing.. you could decrease the bump on the forehead, couse it makes her look ...... older...

    10/5 :D Gratz

  • THIS IS BLOODY AMAZING!

    Her face looks so real

    in fact

    everything looked real

    amazing

    keep up the good work

  • Amazing!!!

    Wonderful!!!

    Great!!!

    You are absolutely talented!!!

The graphics seem real no way!

    With respect & love

  • This work is absolutely great. It's brillant, especially because you've done it alone and with low possibilitys. Respect!

  • Damn dude this looks so real it's blowing my mind! The facial expressions and everything are so accurate!

  • wow, u shud be out there and known everywhere too bad u dont get enuf light

  • he is known, he was the graphic designer for the game worms, but i understand what your saying...

  • I think she is bi-polar...

  • how long did this take to render ?

  • About 1 year using 4 PCs running 24 hours a day

  • damn!!

  • @lkcgartist ..what the fuck,...

  • @lkcgartist Damn thats a long time

  • @lkcgartist

    WOW! :o

Is that with a one core cpu?

  • @lkcgartist Wow!!! mashaAllah, people can learn patience from that! great job :)

  • @lkcgartist fuck me :p

  • the baby looks too... smart? nice animation

  • Look at what he's done with those specs.

    Hat off to you, sir.

  • Wow... just wow!

  • Firsties!

  • It's the best I've ever seen, of course, but can you make the body and facial movements a little more lurchy, and less smooth?

  • You know, it's funny when people make comments like that. I mean, I'm sure you're not trying to hate on the video, but I would like to see anyone with those specs do better. Not everyone has endless amounts of money to afford things like motion capture to get the animations "just right". This video is amazing!

  • Please understand, I'm really, really not trying to be a douche here. Out of all the CGI human animation I've ever seen, Liam Kemp's ability to really capture the real life of a human being seems leagues beyond everyone else... I don't begrudge him that at all.

With that said, since the aim seems to be full authenticity, what harm is there in us giving specific feedback? If there's harm, I won't ever do it again... Scout's honor.
