  • dropbox file link is broken... is it just me?

  • Comment removed

  • Mine only works for maximizing and restoring the window. I'm using key bindings. Is there any reason this might happen?

  • its enabled by default in 11!

  • First off: I love your sense of humor. It made the video even more fun.

Second: Do you think there'd be a way to devise a workaround with edge bindings? I use edge bindings to rotate the desktop cube, but I would love to be able to do this all from the mouse (because just reaching over to my keyboard wastes those precious seconds :P)

Three: What task bar settings are you using? I somehow forgot how to make it look awesome like that, so I'm stuck with the default ubuntu for now. Any help?

  • How do you make the snap animation effection look like the wobbly matrix mirror?

  • thanks so much for the tutorial this helped me out alot

  • Thank you so much, I was a bit confused to using CCSM there was something like "screen snapping" but I really couldn't work that out, this helped me alot :)

  • Thank you so much! Easy to follow and works great.

  • Very straight forward and to the point, I was having issues with other tutorials! Thank you sir!

  • It works, thanks.

  • awesome vid, thx for sharing

  • Hey man, nice tutorial thanks, having one annoying problem, the left and right do not work! Up and Down works fine, Is it something to do with the code?? I followed your vid exactly, please help, Cheers

  • @Antony2790 I have that problem too.

  • @Antony2790

I just found out that this feature doesn't work if 'Visual Effects' is set to 'none'. Your 'Visual Effects' have to be on 'normal' or 'extra'. (System->Preferences->Appearances->Visual Effects).

  • thanks 4 the Vid : )

    @Bayanetta

their are a lot of things which Linux can,but windows can't..

Somethings which absent in Linux is fixed with time, but many holes in win always remains holes.....that's the difference...

  • thanks 4 the Vid : )

  • thanks buddy,its helps alot...and its fun : )

  • Nice vid, thanks for that. The OMGubuntu page is down. So, now i have saved your text file to my dropbox :).

Though new compiz feature will enable this hopefully soon.

  • very good intro, are you a professor or a teacher? because you would make a very good one. this way the students would be more intrigued with your lessons.

  • @megamanxu That's an interesting compliment! My parents were teachers, but I'm no teacher. I'm hardly student material! I'm just bored, and sharing it.

  • @chaide it must runs in the family then. :)

  • Key bindings are kinda pointless for this feature. Just enable the grid plugin as mentioned before.

  • Thanks so much for this concise/informative tutorial! I have utilized this functionality on multiple machines effectively =)

  • you can just enable the GRID function in window management for everything except retoring window to its original size which is the last command. i use GRID and instead of ctrl+alt+KP5 to maximize I have command 4 set as ctrl+SUPER+KP5

  • Thanks you very much. I read a couple of tutorials but didn't get the jist of the bindings the video tutorial made it super easy to follow along. :)

  • quick tip..

    ctrl c = copy

    ctrl v = paste

    Save yourself from noobdom!!! ;)

  • @holyzarquon427 I manually copy/paste the first command, just as a visual, then ctrl c/v the others. You're right about one thing though. Noobdom is something that I'll never save myself from :P

  • @chaide Sorry, must have missed that. Very helpful vid, btw.

  • @SdUdExDo Nvm you was referring to the odt :P

  • @SdUdExDo Just add a shift to use it in the terminal ;)

  • @holyzarquon427 Epic win :)

  • @holyzarquon427 and in linux terminal

    Shift Insert = paste

  • thankyou!

  • great one. thanks.

  • When I rebooted the changes have not kept their effect. I keep trying the process again from the start but it won't work. Any ideas?

  • @footclan17 have you saved your profile in ccsm prefs?

  • Great tutorial! The windows overlap a small bit. Is there a way to fix this? The right I'm using an old laptop without a widescreen.

  • @footclan17 use snapping windows in ccsm window management

  • This is a really great tutorial-- was just wondering is there a way to make it snap only when dragging a window, rather than any time the mouse hits one of the hot spots.

  • Unfortunately I'm not aware of any, which is the biggest reason I use Key Bindings. The Edge Bindings are "Pointer Activated" instead of "Move Activated," which means that simply moving your pointer to the edge causes the command to trigger.

I noticed that you can choose 'Pointer' or 'Move' Edge Binding Activation in the "Desktop Wall" section in ccsm. But for some reason, you don't get that option in "Commands."

The dirty fix would be to change Edge Trigger Delay in "General Options" to 400~

  • yeh, well this is still an extremely helpful tip, thanks a lot for posting it up, your tutorials are great :)

  • @chaide Is there any way to combine two commands? Like mouse button pressed and edge activated? It is not the best, but is cleaner than the other solution(Delay). I Guess.

  • Nice. Works very well on Ubuntu 10.04. Thanks much! :D

  • Super tutorial! As always ;-) Thumbs up!

  • Thanks again :)
