  • what is the strum pattern?

  • Wow that was really cool, thanx for the lesson!!!

  • Janis Joplin sings it. R.I.P. Janis we love you :)

  • amazing voice :D

  • Very nice!! Easy to follow! I am in ah car now, can't wait to get home n try this! Let ya know how it goes! Thanks!!!

  • very helpful.

  • I guess I'm going to have to play this over and over really slow to get that strum pattern, because I can't even right it down as fast as you're saying it.

  • Does this strumming work the same for the janis version?

  • Excellent. Pink does a nice version of this tune

  • very well done. i like your voice!

  • muito bom

  • Mojo your the best I love this Guitar.Wish I could find one like that..I would love to see you play Life in the Fast lane by Eagles.

    Much Love from Mississippi

  • most bands transpose it to key of A for second verse, sounds great when the key goes from G to A

  • lol how u forgot the g 7...oops id said ony g,we hav a g7...love that version! great job!

  • what kind of guitar do you have???

  • isn't there an A chord?

  • @mercyless00 Kristofferson usually plays this in A, so the chords transpose to A, D, and E(7) instead of G, C, D(7). Works the same either way, just a different key.

  • nice flatop

  • Hey

Is the correct strumming pattern like this for the entire song?

    DDUDDUDUUU?

Also, would you recommend using a pick for this song?

  • Help. I'm a lefty and stuck with a righty guitar -several in fact. My left hand is really fast and my strumming horrible! How can I teach my brain to play nice? Any strumming advise?

  • That makes two of us, as I am a lefty playing righty as well. So my advice is, take it down to 1 strum per beat, and then add up from there.

  • @ThreeChordGuitar I'm a lefty playing right handed too! The first time I ever picked up a guitar I held it L handed and got yelled at! Southpaw prejudice, lol. Strumming is easy, but now I have the Strat I've always wanted and discovered that my picking is rediculous. I try playing scales and little leads over and over and over, but don't seem to improve a whole lot. Any picking advice? Thanks

  • @SavedfromSlavery take off your stings and take the nut off the guitar flip it around and string the guitar for a lefty my friend has done this to several right handed guitars and they all sound and play great

  • love your ovation ;)

  • my favourite is the live version by waylon jennings

  • Did you know that Roger Miller also covered this tune? Jerry Lee Lewis did a version as well. Nice job with the instruction on this. When I do Kris's version I usually do it in "d"

  • kris wrote the song !

  • I love Kristofferson's version too :) Good one! I have to give it a try

    Regards

  • Great!

    best learner!!!!

  • Thankyou, love your videos. As to versions of this song, I like Charley Pride's the best.

  • best

  • Thank you this will make my father happy and that makes me happy.

  • this version sucks

  • What a knob.

  • Right alex you stick up your version and i'll put up mine? Sound fair?? I'm no Kris but i'll give it my best go (cue some bad singing!)

  • c'mon?! Really? Where's yours? Offer it up, toughnuts!

  • Thank you! So easy to follow, and it sounds great .

  • That be some good ass shit my friend :-)

  • Thank you again. very good instruction.

  • very well done, 5 stars

  • that was brilliant....thank so muc....

  • Hey Mojo,

Hows the action on that ovation?

    Thanks

    Jordan

  • right where I like it :)

  • I recently bought a Martin DM to replace an old handed down POS I learned to play on. Great loud and clear sound, but play a lot of different ones before you buy. I think Mojo is playing an Ovation Elite. My brother has one and that is also a very nice acoustic.

  • thanks for this video! This is the first song i ever learned on guitar! You taught me really well!

  • Glad I could help :)

  • could you tell me what ezath guitar does kriss play now a gibson what

  • I don't know... I haven't seen him on stage in ages.

  • hey im thinkin about gettin an ovation are they worth it? but ne way u got a good voice

  • Thanks. I like my ovation, but try a bunch of guitars before you decide. I played a lovely new Martin the other day. asking price was in the $500 range. Just an example :)

  • This is amazing! I've always wanted to be able to play this song, I sing it all the time. But I listen to the Janis version, do you think theres anyway you could make a quick video with her version if you ever have time? I'm desperate because I feel like your the only person that could teach it to me where I'd be able to actually play it!

  • I dont know if anybody told you but you have amazin voice and u lay guitar awsome

  • Thank you so much for the generous words!

  • I would also like to know about the strumming pattern. The video is extremely helpful but I cant seem to get the strumming pattern down. And again is it the same strumming pattern as Janice's?

  • I have never played the janis version so I couldn't tell you.

Without a guitar in my hands right now, I would venture that the following should get you there...

    D D U D U D U D

    D U D U D

    D U D U D D D U D

  • Great lesson.. What is the strumming pattern on this song? if you don't mind me asking.. and can that same strumming pattern be used for janis's version?

  • Yeah, I love Johnny Cash... that's why it's hard for me to do his stuff. It feels blasphemous, you know? I'll try, though...

  • Thank you, that's very kind of you!

  • the first live concert i ever saw was Kris Kristofferson and rita cooledge in asheville n.c. the hit of the show was "jesus was a carpenter" but they did bobby mcgee as well. I was pretty young but it was a great show.

  • I wish I had been there!

  • thank yoy mojo for your vedeoes.un are an excellent teacher .i really enjoy ur site ,u make things so easy to follow.i am learning so much.was playing this great song in no time .pretty good also.

  • I am glad to be a little part of your success :)

  • Many years ago Kris Kristofferson and Rita Coolidge were on Saturday Night Live, They were doing this song on the Music portion. Suddenly out pops Gilda Radner all done up in her most frumpiness best, and she screeches out "Kris, Kris, its me, its Bobbi McGee". Rita looks over at Kris in that cool way she has and he looks all sheepish. Meanwhile over comes Gilda just gushing. Funniest thing I ever saw on SNL.

  • Man, I didn't see that... thanks for bringing it up, now I will have to look for a video of it :)

  • Great Job MoJo, I'm still waiting on my Jason Aldean request. Dont forget about dude.

  • thanks mojo this is my favourite version of this song i never would even thought of reccomending this song.
