Shatner is always good. The singing? He carved himself a comic niche that no one else can duplicate. He has been doing this for decades. Just watch more of his singing. Either you get it or you don't.
@offstride I definitely don't get it. Could you try to explain to me? Is his name even real or is it just funny that his name is Shatner and he shat on just about every true classic song in existence?
It is a beatnik sorta poetry read rather than singing. I love Bill Shatner, This sure was embarresing for us Shatner fans back in the day. It is just more than funny....
Why are you giant douches actually commenting on " Freebird" sung by Shatner when IT'S A TV COMMERCIAL??? The man was cast and is paid to play the fool! May I suggest you quit drinking the bong water? Perhaps you'll comprehend TV better.
Oh, you kids! When he was young, and just chewed the scenery, couldn't act for squat- it was embarrassingly funny. But now he's truly funny as hell! Why? Making fun of your own complete past idiocy is a great place to work from. He's kept working- some wretched cop show, a few other 3rd rate series, and then? OMG, Denny Crane!!! Oh yeah, the Shatner can play comedy. Emmy well. And ever notice he speaks lyrics? Knows not to attempt actual singing.
Listening to Shatner's...performances....is alot like watching Bob Sagget's stand up comedy. They're so singularly awful at what they do, yet so desperately sincere...I keep jumping between the conclusions that the good stuff is just going over my head, making me dumb, or finding it unintentionally hilarious. I am grateful there are people out there this insane to make me have that strange mixture of thoughts.
I think he's an interpretative artist with a great sense of humour. And it works because of his warmth, charisma, and personality. I compare him to Lady Gaga in a way. Like many excellent artists, he's unafraid to express himself. True about his singing; it's more like spoken word. I think Rex Harrison did that a lot in his musicals. And he was great too. It's something midway between singing and regular speech. So I guess it becomes poetry in a way.
He is taking himself off with this ad. It's meant for you to say "OMG look at William Shatner and his bad singing ... hey check that out, Priceline might have some good stuff". And look at that - it's actually on YouTube with people discussing it. Job done. Shatner wins again.
He is a very gifted actor; believe me, after he is gone, he will get his due. People will realize they missed out and didn't give him the respect he deserves.
@TheTaiyakiGuy William Shatner does not technically sing. He actually does spoken word albums. Has Been is actually a fantastic album, especially the song, Common People.
@TheTaiyakiGuy Actually, there's one very old video where he does sing, he just randomly started talking instead of singing at some point into his career.
@TheTaiyakiGuy it's not singing it's called spoken word and he can do it very well if he wants to listen to Has Been it was actually a hit CD and it's good his Common People is the best rendition of that song I've ever heard
Looking forward to his new kids' series "Shat In The Hat".

He's so fn funny. I feel sorry for the people who don't 'get' Shatner, he's just outrageously 'out-here' and passionately 'pisstake'
I hope you live forever Bill

This comment has received too many negative votes show
he can't sing.
he should stick with free verse or slam poetry.
