I much prefer Tito Schippa's rendition which has more edge and depths. Pavarotti sails through the song as if he really believes that life is sweet. Schippa is living through the depression and pre WWII Italy. Who can say one is better than another, but they are artistically different and reflect the character and the times of the artists. But, hey, what a song!!!

Forget "great Luciano" "thanks Pavarotti" and so on this time... this performance is actually quite embarassing. Music is dull (conductor?!) and Luciano is constantly out of the marks. Really embarassing!!!
I enjoy Pavarotti's voice but only in opera (with a few notable exceptions). But in these songs he does very poorly always. He sounds detached and robotic. And he sings this like an operatic aria. He didn't know how to change around the sound of his voice. And by the way the acoustics on this track are dreadful. TOO STEREO!
I like Mancini but this is a horrible arrangement and I partially agree with a previous comment about the amplification which also makes the singing sound overdone. Schipa's version is best.
Operatic artists, even the best, which certainly included Pavarotti, are often "off the mark" when it comes to popular canzoni. They tend to overwhelm the music as if it were an aria. Tito Schipa was a rare exception (his 'Vivere" is the second best). The first best, and the definitive version is by the greatest popular singer Italy ever produced-Carlo Buti!
For me this is a matter of taste, i love very much the voice of Luciano Pavarotti, so i love him in every song. and i obviously love this song by his voice, even though he "overwhelmed this song" i like the version of Carlo Butti too, but Luciano Pavarotti more.
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
Microphone help the great singer, his mediocre voice sounds louder, at the same time reveals feeblenes, false, heavy breath, lack of strength, from top to bottom is lack of clarity... well, a typical micro-moneymaker. Some more months when nis cd's went out of fashion ... another hoopla.
It do not agree! Dmitry Hvorostovsky about a voice of Pavarotti: "I immensely admire Luciano Pavarotti. It possesses phenomenal technics, not to mention a voice. I consider that if the angel had a voice, he would sing a voice of Pavarotti. I envy that ease from which he takes from himself sounds." Very superficial judgement!Certainly Carlo Buti executes "Vivere" incomparably better, than Pavarotti, for the account of hearfulness, melodies. Buti sings emotionally rich, with all your heart.
Pavarotti it is the greatest tenor, at it the rare vocal data: the pure, pathetic voice combining metal shine and quivering beauty of a timbre ".My opinion-Carlo Buti much best and more emotionally was sung by "Vivere". And your rough reaction to my opinion it superfluous an occasion to be convinced of absence of respect for the interlocutor. Roughness is a sign on low culture. Disrespect for the interlocutor only characterises you from a worst aspect. Respect another's opinion!
Your comment conceals both ignorance and malice. And besides, your comment is SO stupid. I saw this singer LIVE on at least two dozen occasions, when the LIVE public of great opera houses, in New York, Chicago and London greeted him as what he was: the greatest tenor of the last 60 years. A fabulous, real singer.
This song is an old and most beautiful song.....However, I've heard and older version which was sung slightly slower and with far more deph of feeling. I think the singer was a chap called Carlo Buti.
this is a song that I think stands up for Pavarotti's vision of life, the lyrics describe actually how he lived his life indeed, what a remarkable man he was...
Rhythm of a song smooth and unshakable, as the sea wave rolling on the Italian coast... In its music caress of the midday beams piercing each melodic phrase is felt.

Pavarotti executes "Vivere" the mighty voice, however it is somehow cold, not enough warmth warm.

"Microphone money-maker" indeed. What a fool.

I saw Pavarotti live in Tosca at the Met and it was thrilling. But- even Pavarotti admitted he was not as great a vocal artist as Jussi Bjorling.
