As for the movie itself, I believe Gibson was trying to show the suffering of Jesus and, yes, demonize the Jews for wanting him to go through this all. There is an element of sacrifice, suffering and martyrdom in Xianity, and this does it justice.

Now, I've seen a lot of scary, gruesome things in the movies, but this is almost to a point where it's crossing the line. Love Mel Gibson--he's a wonderful actor and director--but I think he took this a bit too far.
