awesome fish! i live in driggs right on the wydaho border. gonna snag a topo map and start trying to find me some gold! are there any cutts or goldens that can be caught on a day trip?
.No fly fishing here so yes you can do that better than me . don't fish for trout as they are to small. I fish salmon in rivers using g loomis glx rods and 15 pd line with drift gear to hook and land kings up to 50 lbs .After spending money on helicopter fishing would think that you would have teeth sorry .I've had unappreciative losers before.Catch some great fish or kill nice animal still aren't happy.Teeth are important to self esteem do you know about low cost dental clinics ?
@seaduckman My teeth have recently been "fixed" - the helicopter flight was a gift from a dear friend and I've guided elk, deer, antelope hunters and fly-fishers off and on for years. Some more appreciative than others. I can assure you that after 2 strokes and 2 heart surgeries I truly appreciate EVERY day spent in the wilderness, whether you think I smile enough or not. I'm glad you enjoy catching 50 lb. salmon as much as I enjoy wilderness back pack trips. Best wishes. -trouttrek-
Tell me this is in Colorado somewhere! I've tried going after goldens but they say you have to fish above 10,000 feet to find them. Caught a bunch of greenback spotted cutthroats but never a golden.
@germanchocolate1982 there aren't any goldens in colorado actually (or at least not very many the only lake I knew of that had 'em got stocked with cutties) your best bet for goldens is in the wind river range in WYO (where this is) or in the sierras (south fork of the little kern, golden trout wilderness, ect...)
@troutman222 i live less than an hour from most of them spots in the pictures they are not in wind river area that is over by the dam of fontenelle if you know wyoming you will know what im talking bout them pictures are taken about 20 miles befor jackson after daniels up a place called fishermen crk!!! i name the place because you have to have special gear to even hike there if you get caught with inproper gear you will receive a very large fine... or eaten by a bear!! haha.. i know this place
@seaduckman Ha Ha SEADUCKMAN if you're going to bust chops you should learn how to spell; It is "too cool," not "to cool." You also forgot the question mark. You should also use a capital letter to begin a sentence. So........ Your comment should read like this, "Too cool to smile?" Then you won't sound stupid when you're writing stupid remarks and busting chops on people who are better flyfisherman than you.
nice goldens, in quebec only 1 outfiter stocks em but he dosent present nicely so fisherman seem to think there !! evil monster from nuclear blast of doom !! One i will do a trip like that you are a luky man, good luck for 09
i hope you guys aren't kiling the Goldens? they are very rare, you should really think about catch and release, it's probably supposed to be anyway. leave some fish for my kids kids -thanks
Thanks for your comment. You are so right! I can assure you that catch and release is the rule and not the exception on these back-country trips! A few fish for dinner are only kept where legal and encouraged by local fisheries biologists for lake-overcrowding concerns. Hopefully, the next generation will love and appreciate these resources as much as you and I do!
@MATTIER303- I agree but im sure where he is fishing harvesting a few fish wouldn't matter. Catching goldens in Wy. makes me think he's in the Winds which im sure doesnt see too much pressure.
@Dryfly00 thats a pretty dumb assessment, considering there are maybe 2 dozen lakes in the world that produce large goldens. killing even one is a really bad idea and does the fact that an area receives little pressure give you licence to kill fish haphassardly?
@troutman222 Ok Ranger Rick. The fishing pressure has everything to do with whether or not its ok to keep fish. Those high alpine lakes in the Winds do not get fished often. Plus Golden's reproduce and grow pretty fast in those bigger lakes. I'm all about trout conservation and I have put a lot of man hours into stream restoration. I'm allergic to fish, I have never eaten one in my life but I wouldn't care if someone kept a trout from a large lake that had a good population of fish.
@Dryfly00 I dont think you understand the difference between a trophy golden and a golden. In order to have big fish in high mountain lakes there has to be a low fish density, this is generally caused by poor spawning habitat. If you think it's ok to kill even onebig golden then you're a total moron. that fish has been in there for decades! Im not opposed to keeping a brookie or two from a lake that has thousands upon thousands but keeping large trout from high country lakes is really stupid
