unfortunately I only got to see him rallying once at the '89 circuit in Waterford. Bought a cosworth 4 years ago, driving it now reminds me of those times. RIP Mark and Roger
Was going through some old rally videos a few years ago that I had since a kid and decided to check up on a few drivers. I was shocked and saddened to learn of Marks death, I never heard about it in '03. He was a superb driver especially in the cosworths going sideways everywhere. Guys like Mark were such heros to me back then,
I've got this footage on a video. Mark Lovell was a simply awesome tarmac rally driver. I got my first Sierra aged 19 and have never driven anything else, probably because of how Mark used to drive his Cossies. I also compete in road rallies because of footage like this. This footage is exemplary driving.
I had the chance to hang with and talk to Mark about RS200 days a few times. He was really one of the funniest and nicest guys I have met in regards to rallying. A proper driver with no funny business.
i met mark in the 90,s ,he had to sit in with me in a ford sierra at nutts corner for a ford competion,he could not contain himself with laughter at my sideways style of drive,n, john taylor radio,d our car going balistic how i should b drive,n clean straight lines, mark could not hardly even talk to him with laughing.fantastic great memories for me of mark. you are sorely missed but definately not forgotten mark. Andy
this makes me so proud, looking at this video, reading the comments people have left, you were loved so much uncle mark,i miss you so much, god took you at completely the wrong time but i'm glad you were doing what you loved best, keep racing up there on the clouds with uncle roger..i love you.xxxx
When I was a young lad, he was right up there with the rest of my heros, people such as Tiovenan, Vatennan, Alen, Mansell, Senna, Villenerve, Bell, Schanche, Brock, Sytner and Rouse.
So thanks for all the memorys Mark Lovell. You never failed to make this man who was once a young boy get excited when he saw you doing things in your RS200 or Sierra Cosworth that mere mortals could never dream of.
it's funny, when you watch these in car cameras you start to get the impression that the drivers are invincible and can't make mistakes...

...even more awesome when you work out the AVERAGE speed. 60mph on roads like that.

Those of us in the US rally community certainly miss Mark and Roger. Time for me to get to work on that Sierra rally car in the garage! :-)

Mark Lovell, without doubt the greatest tarmac rally driver this country has ever had, and one of the best in the world.
God speed Mark, you are sadly missed.

As always, absolute commitment from Mark Lovell.
