  • I remember watching the Movie Loft alone when I was a kid and it would be some movie that scared the shit out of me, and then a commercial would come up with that Movie Loft theme, all bright and happy... ah not so bad :)

  • yea growin up we had ch.38 here in Ct. that was one great station! movie loft was awesome flicks unedited, bruins/celtics games, deputy dawg,3 stooges on sunday mornings. cant understand why its no longer?

  • I used to really enjoy Hersey's presentations in the latter UHF days.

  • Just think, for a select few of you out there this is what was on in the background while your mom and pop we're gettin' busy making you!

  • OMG!!! Talk about nostalgia...Dana Hersey and his sweaters, always after Bruins home games.

  • Boston TV until cable SUCKED. Period. SU C K E D.

  • @yaknbo the movie loft was great...an so was willie whistle!

  • What's the matter? You didn't like Boomtown, Rex Trailer, Major Mudd, weekday afternoon movies on Channel 7, the hundreds of original local programs that WCVB cranked out in the '70s, cartoons and reruns on 56, Creature Double Feature, and all of the movies, reruns and sports carried by 38? Are you even old enough to remember Boston TV before cable?

  • @VaultMasterDBT 58. Yes, I do. Hey man, I went to Worcester Academy. I remember Channel 27. The ABSOLUTE worst thing was Frank Avruch. Candlepins For Cash. Yikes.

  • You have GOT to be kidding me. Frank Avruch was the ABSOLUTE BEST. He embodies how great Boston TV was for a long time. From Bozo to his hosting and voiceover work for both Channel 5s, he could do no wrong, the "Man About Town". Granted, Bob Gamere turned out to be a child-molesting douche bag, who truly was better suited at hosting CFC than anchoring sports, but really..I don't know what else to say. I just don't understand how someone could not like that pre-cable era...I seriously don't.

  • sweet kevynova I wish movies on TV were shown like that these days. but no we have to edit them for content and time because parents are too dumb to use the V chip turn off the TV or change the channel

  • I love the part where he's screaming "come on!" oh and that movie loft music brings out such a nostalgic chill in my spine too.

  • Oh man yes! I loved the Movie Loft for showing unedited movies on TV in the 80's. I used to tape all the Friday The 13th films on Beta max, haha. Boobs, gore and all, woo hoo!

  • I agree. I wish he was still doing the Movie Loft, rather than the Andleman Brothers. Gawd those guys annoy me.

My favorite Hersey series used to be the annual Stooges Marathon on New Years.

I can't remember what the actauk title was, but it was something like:

"The Anual New Years Eve 3 Stooges Marathon Starring Moe, Larry, Curly, Shemp and some Curly Joe, and If You're Gonna Whine About It You can Forget the Whole Damn Thing."

Not sure if Damn was used though.,,, but it sells.

  • wow before the v chip was invented

  • I had this channel on my satellite dish back in the early 90's. I loved the Movie Loft. Especially since the movies WERE unedited. Dana Hersey was the man. Is that dude still around?

  • I have heard Hersey on radio doing some IDs or liners, I think on WRKO. I think he might still be around on radio somewhere, but haven't seen him on TV in a long time.

  • He's doing ID's for Howie Carr on WRKO.

  • @MSTS1 Yeah he still does radio. The Movie Loft made me the movie nerd I am today!

  • Duel was a great film, Dennis Weaver(rip) "you miserable meathead..."

I remember when Dana Hersey would announce "Regularly scheduled programming will not be seen so that we my bring you....Boston Bruins hockey."

  • It's too bad this persons account is closed. I wanted to add that the "you miserable meathead..." line is one I remembered too and thought was pretty funny..

  • Great movie! TV 38 and 56 were great back then when they were indies. If anyone out there has the Boston Red Sox/TV 38 music from late 70s early 80s when the video showed them opening the park and getting ready for the game. Great music to it.

  • this was my fav movie as a kid, and my dad in providence, taped this exact airing on tape in 1986 from the movie loft.

  • Do you remember the hoopla when Dana televised Straw Dogs and was adamant about showing it completely unedited and the importance of that brief nude scene?

I heard he was a boozer in Swampscott.

    Any truth to that?

  • OMG Duel! I remembered seeing this movie on WCSH Ch6, when they had an Saturday afternoon movie program, thank you so much for posting it! Anita

  • I still remember ending those ending chimes! real childhood memory

  • Dana does humorous promos for the hosts of 680 am wrko these days. Most notably the Howie Carr show.

  • This is pretty freaky for me. Duel is one of my top 3 favorite movies. I never get sick of it. Yet I was TERRIFIED of it when I was little, it gave me nightmares. I remember seeing it on TV when I was about 5 years old, and since we didn't have cable, I likely saw it on 38. I wouldn't be surprised if this promo was for the time I first saw the movie. Thanks for posting this!

  • This is a lot better than those three morons, The Andelman Brothers, who host the Movie Loft.

  • Ah, the Movie Loft...here in NY, I got TV-38 on my cable system until 94 (just as well, since they went downhill after the UPN affiliation a few months later...LOL), and even the big NYC indies never carried The Deer Hunter in all its uncut glory.

  • This man and Channel 38 were staples of television for me while I was growing up. Is Dana still alive?

  • Yeah, he's since moved over to radio and now works for WRKO.

  • I met Dana at the Grand Opening of Universal Studios Florida . I talked to him about lots of things but one thing we talked about was the interview he did with Wilford Brimley. Wilford didn't like Dana and it showed during the interview.

  • One of the great movies of all time. A Steven Spielberg classic. "Duel" Of course Dana Hersey's smooth voice was always great on TV 38. "The Movie Loft" Another nice clip! JimMastersTV

  • Thanks Jim. 'Duel' is 2nd on my list of greatest movies. And TV-38 is where I originally saw it.

    I agree- classic. Dana, too.

  • Me too!!! I so miss the movie loft on TV38!!! They always showed cool movies unedited or largely unedited. Smokey and the Bandit was another movie I first watched on the Movie Loft.

  • I remeber watching Trading Places, Summer Rental on the Movie Loft. I also saw Sleeper for the first time on the Movie Loft. My folks watched the original Swept Away on this channel too.
