Its not the special effects that suck its that writers and directors depend too much on them to tell the story. The hight of great movie making as a story telling form was in the time when special effects were limited and some inagination was left for the viewer and writers wrote great stories for great actors. Terminator, predator, star wars original trilogy, die hard, rocky, jaws, texas chainsaw massacre, and a host of other greats have been duplicated, but all are lacking and unoriginal.
