  • Arcady itis, but who is the singer, Arcady had a few girl singers, who is this, Niamh Parsons?.

  • It's by Arcady (well, that's who wrote it)

  • Yes, it is Niamh Parsons singing with Arcady, thanks for your info.

  • Thanks plopshot3.

  • Thank you!! Love this tune...

  • Sailorlulu no it`s not Kathy, I had the singer`s name when I first recorded this song, thanks for your contribution.

  • Sailorlulu this song dates from arund the early 1920s.

  • Sure, no doubt, it is about the War of Independence. Nevertheless you can call it a folk song, when many singers do it up to now. There are many folk songs that date from this time. I would even call Sean South from Garryowen a folk-song.

  • Great! I first listened to it on the Ballyshannon Folk Festival in Donegal. I guess the singer was a famous folk-singer from kerry, a piper. Also a great arrangement. It took me a while to find out that this is a real folk-song and not his personel creation.

  • A lovely voice, great song, thanks.

  • And when the hills were bleeding and the rifles were aflame,

To the rebel homes in Kerry the Saxon stranger came, but the men who dared the Auxies and fought the Black and Tans,

Were the boys from Barna Straide who hunted for the wran.

  • Can anyone tell me who the singer? a lovely Munster song, very nice arrangement.

  • This sounds like Kathy Jordan of Dervish.
