is he snaping his wrist just before he hits the forehand? i mean prior to the swing his wrist is straight and then he gets it laid back in a very fast way which can be translated as snaping. am i correcT?
If your transfer your weight to fwd foot you will not be able to sync to impact. The weight must already be on fwd foot against which you swing. The plant means all angular momentum, necessarily conserved, transfers to remaining free torque arm ( arm/racket unit ) effectively multiplying speed. Like jumping off a moving bus. Ref. batters, pitchers and javeliners, the most powerful thrower/strikers in sport.
I've always been told to transfer my weight from back foot to front when striking through the ball, he seems to push straight up and his front foot comes up off the ground?
@afcfishwick yeah, he pushes strait up, if u watch him in a match, u can see his hitting leg lifts off the ground as he jumps up, if he has time, he jumps forward but usually he jumps up
When the video shows him in the other outfit, when he swings fast, its too hard to the naked eye to see. Or maybe its just the camera. Either way, he swings it so fast so effortlessly.
@rockhardX Higher chance of getting the ball back in play. Unless you are at a professional level, if you can just hit the ball back in play with a good form you will win 95% of your matches. My highschool coach always stressed, even if you hit an amazing winner once every couple of games, you probably had to hit 6 or 7 unforced errors to get that winner.
@chao5cuber you dont understand. nadal Muscles the shit out the ball. just hardly any good technique, literally just smacking at the ball.
i know other players look like theyre not trying, but its because they have great technique and know how to put action on the ball without just wacking the fuck out of it
Balance and early preparation. Learn to hit in perfect balance. This means that your footwork and movement is everything. What people don't talk enough about Fed is his amazing footwork, balance, and movement, in addition to early racket preparation.
penetrate more through the ball while adding more topspin? Thats what i do, except i just pound the living shit out of the ball and add unheard of amounts of topspin (for a high school player) and they usually go in :P. really depends on the playing style i guess
Although roger's forehand has let him down in monte carlo, miami and indian wells, it was INCREDIBLE at the aussie open 2009 and in his thrashing of del potro and roddick at AO 2009. It is still one of the best shots ever, along with nadal's forehand, sampras serve, ect.
Roger's legs are strong, yes. But I'm sick of this "old" argument. He just won RG and he's playing as well as he ever has. Age has nothing to do with anything. Nadal is 23 and is battling knee problems, so the Federer is old argument is pretty lame.
@3timeMVPNash federer is still a good athlete but he has passed his physical peak some years ago. He is a bit old to be dominating like he is and the way he's doing it, keep in mind he's no serve and volley type player like the oldies (you can serve and volley much longer competitively in general).
@3timeMVPNash Come on, he'll be 30 next year. In tennis years, this is waaaay past prime. His body will not rebound as fast as a somebody in their early 20's. For example, I doubt Fed ever comes close to winning the French Open again.
@dogdogdogger With Nadal around, probably not. But he will still be competitive in all the Slams. Yeah, next year he will be 30, but you can bet that he'll be in the best shape he can possibly be. And we all know that he has the heart and passion to want to do well, even as age becomes an obstacle (not to mention the big hitters like Sod and Berdych),
my teammate is even taller than Roger and uses a 4 1/4.. i'm 5'9" and using a 4 3/8. .. i have the wilson leather groundgrip on my 6.1 tour and my grips feels thinner than my mate's one.

he's forehand is getting less and less aggresive. probably because his aging is not letting him do the spatacular moves and footwork he could b=pull of when he's still younger.
halfway between eastern and a semi-western grip on one of those narrow diagonal bevels. Allows him to hit flat and topspin with minimal adjustment. The whiplash forehand motion, though, is truly a breathtaking sight. I think McEnroe called it the greatest shot in tennis.

his forehand needs reworking
its let him down so much for the last year
when its on its on
the greatest shot ever
but at the moment its losing him matches where as it used to be the matchwinner
papajoveth 2 years ago
His technique and acceleration is fine. IMO he just needs a little stronger legs. Do some really intensive footwork drills.
That'll help his forehand and consistency...

deagmomo 2 years ago
no, i'm just assuming right there.
but it's obvious, he's using a smaller grip on his racquet than he is actually measured up to.
i was explaining how a smaller grip can make the grip you're holding look different to the naked eye.

watch the other FYB2007 Videos..there is one where Roger's forehandgrip is explained.
they say it is an eastern grip.
