Just look up his views on how men should act "like men" and you will quickly realize how delusional and what a moron he really is. I would love to see him in an actual debate about Christianity.
Pastor Mark is right, Karma is fake, what go around around don't comes around. There are many cases that people did bad things and didn't pay for it. We are all sinners in the eyes of a Holy God. That why we need Jesus, He is the way to the Father. Karma can't help you. People that follows Karma thinks there is a back door to Heaven. There's no other way Jesus is the Way, The Truth and the Life. THE ONLY DOOR.
I love the fact that people or at least pastor mark will teach on the fact that their is only one way to God and say that any other way man comes up with is stupid not wrong but stupid. Please mark never water down any thing
@ShotzMaster117 if your looking for evidence i would check out the book " the case for christ". basically a compelation of interviews of historians and people like that who have evidence confirming jesus was real. i would try reading that and than see what you think about it.
@ShotzMaster117 - The simple fact that you go on these Christian videos and start combative convo with Christians (I can clearly see your youtube track record) proves to me that you wrestle with the existence of God. Life is a vapor and tomorrow we will all die. And you're waisting what little minutes you have on this earth to live it up by arguing with Chistians something that won't even matter to you. My hope and prayer is that you come to faith by grace of Jesus Christ.
@ShotzMaster117 - You have an innate sense of right and wrong yet Lawlessness and "Do as though wilt" is your own god. What sense is it to refute what you feel is wrong when what you claim is wrong is atheistically and evolutionarily acceptable (murder, lawlessness, trumping one another including slavery)? IT'S FUTILE. But really it's only wrong when what is RIGHT goes against a lifestyle of excess drinking, sexual immorality, and debauchery that any self righteous person wants.
@ShotzMaster117 - 2000 years ago... 4000 years ago... Slavery was a matter of status. Many of them asked to be indentured slaves, very contrary to white colonial slavery. No I don't want Him to get rid of anyone, but because of His righteous jealousy, I embrace and am happy for what ever He does for me. Lastly, even if the Bible were "morally wrong," what in atheism or evolutionary history tells any being that God is morally wrong or morally right to do anything what so ever?
@ShotzMaster117 - ... There's nothing in the Bible that tells us that if we pray that war go away and limbs come back, it will happen. Everywhere in the Bible it is stated that there will be no Utopia and complete happiness through faith and prayer on this earth for us. But there are countless verses in the Bible that tells us that the trials of this world is not worth the glory of Eternity. That's why I pray that you come to Faith and avoid eternal punishment.
@ShotzMaster117 - I'm happy that we communicated. These topics are very exhaustive, but I'm not going to be combative like I have in the past and blast the comments section with Zukosstruggle @ ShotzMaster117 everywhere. If you would like to communicate more (in an mutually inviting tone) message me sometime.
@ShotzMaster117 - Prayer is pretty powerful stuff. But in another regard towards slavery and murder, there's no equating the type of white colonial slavery, to biblical bond servant slavery. I would rejoice to have the old testament God that does away with the wicked who attempts to turn my eyes away from Him. Thirdly, Flavious Josephus A.D. 37, Dio Cassius, Diodorus of Sicily, Tacitus, and many other Anti/non Christian historians have a different stance on Jesus's existence.
@ShotzMaster117 - Well there is a lot of evidence for Him. I'm not a big fan of Mark Driscoll, but I don't think he shows a lot of attributes you listed. Arrogance maybe here and there. My prayer is that you come to believe, and abound in the Grace of Christ.
@NazariusThe7th He does work, this is his job, you may not know this but it's a lot of work to run a church, and In the bible it's said in 1 Corinthians 9:14 that those who do ministry through the church should be supported by those who benefit from it (the congregation) if you say that a minister doesn't deserve money for the work he's done it'd be the same as saying a teacher doesn't deserve money for teaching your kids/brothers/cousins/friends at school.
@NazariusThe7th Pastors go through years upon years of college classes studying the bible's historical references, Hebrew and ancient Greek culture and language, as well as understanding Hebrew writing styles such as syntax and whatnot so they can get an accurate understanding of what they teach. for example, in the beginning of the bible where it speaks of God creating the earth, it's most likely not how it actually happened, if you've studied any Hebrew poetry you'd know it mainly focuses...
@Mirewood buddah didnt fulfilled 300 plus prophecies that Jesus did. 300 prophecies foretold thousands of years before Jesus was born. not buddah, not hare krishna, not mohamad, but only Jesus. therfore Jesus is the only Messiah prophecied in the bible and Jesus is God Incarnate. All other are just good men.
I would prefer it if people took arguments about the existence of God to videos about the existence of God. The comments below the video would be more helpful if they were discussions about what this guy is saying.
I have had to decide to leave the scene for a while; I am getting no other work done. I have songs and novels to write. The challenge on these vids has been rewarding. Thanks to all my readers.

The reference to magic applies to the belief in supernatural occurrences; did you not realise that? Or are you joshing me?
Creation; miracles; virgin births; resurrection; heaven; hell; souls; spirits; gods and demons - all these things rely on magic, or mysticism, or unnatural events or beings.
I don't believe in any of them, and neither, I think, should any sensible person.
Magic is something that is possible but is not able to be explained at the current moment. Supernatural events are not able to be done by anyone but a supernatural being. If a supernatural being does exist, want would stop him from creating all matter, breaking his own rules (miracles), bring himself to live into his own creation, rising himself from the dead, living in his own kingdom, and living according to his own ways?
Who are you to say someone should not believe in God?
I am saying people should have the freedom to choose, and for someone to say a sensible person should not have that freedom is the worst kind of person on earth. I am a straight A student and I believe in God. Am I a sensible person, or am I not sensible because I do not agree with you?
Supernatural events are not magic. If there is Supernature, then it can mingle with nature and design events that we cannot repeat. That is completely sensible, and the ancients believed it to.
Do you know what magic means? Can you define it for me here and then see how it applies to supernatural occurences? Have you ever considered that scientists are now speculating there are worlds that are not 3 dimensions (worlds that go up to 10 dimensions) and that maybe the stuff that happens in the Bible cannot be explained because just we cannot describe the properties of a world in, say, 6 dimensions?
Also, you find it sensible to not believe creation? So that means you must believe in the idea that the development of the universe started with things just colliding and popping into nothing? The universe is more complex than any other thing than well in the universe itself...yet you believe that and probably find it more ridiculous that the universe was created by a creator over the idea that a clock was created by a craftsman? I just want to make clear what your views are.
The point is, if you don't believe in a God, then that means you must believe in another way the universe came about. So I am wondering what your beliefs are, how provable and "scientific" they are, because maybe I'll come to believe what you believe and we can join forces and make this world less superstitious and take out any gods.
@eltronrangamma What I hold is not a belief. My principles are not a faith. I need not truth or science or reason alone to support me; these are necessary rather than sufficient requirements, but I distrust careless or superstitious hearsay posing as truth, especially if it contradicts science or outrages reason. I respect no belief in the supernatural or mystical, including the existence of soul and individual eternity. I do respect open-mindedness and free inquiry.
From what I know, everybody has beliefs, although they may not be beliefs in the supernatural. They are beliefs nonetheless. If you didn't have a belief you wouldn't be able to live, you wouldn't know how to act, but since you do and you are writing here on youtube, you obviously have a belief, even about the origins of the world. But I might be wrong--if you don't have a belief, what is it you have?
If Christianity doesn’t teach karma, that’s cool, it’s in another religion anyways, but why trash it? Is Christianity as fresh and pure to trash other religions? I don’t think so. I think if one wants respect for their beliefs one must give it too. Mark is the best example of a stupid preacher! Death is neither good or bad, it’s part of life you idiot!
haha wow. He states that some people don't like dealing with death while he is preaching about a way to delude yourself into thinking you will live forever in hell or in heaven.
He really has no understanding of what Karma is. Gee, what a surprise. The real surprise is if he found out for once what he was going to talk about! Karma is what happens to you AFTER you die. Bad in this life, you're gonna get it int he next life. How do the followers of this dork NOT know this?
@Trillidotia What about when you have no fear of death? What tool do you use then to keep people believing? I don't fear death, and am a scientist (so I'm not stupid or delusional) .. Yet I believe totally in what the bible says about Jesus and God. Why, in your opinion, do I believe then?
@TheKJVberean Actually, they are a part of the other 603 Mitzvah. The "law" includes all 613 Mitzvah, including the Ten Commandments....not eating shrimp included among them. I have yet to see any evidence that points to any god. If you could convince me without using tautologies and logical fallacies, maybe I'll buy into this system. As far as I am concerned, I think your God's system is one of the most evil things that I have ever heard of.
@Threshingfloor814 Ah, the fascination of blood, gore and violence. Blood is a very poor washing agent. Besides, it stinks and degrades quickly. Water and detergent work much better.
@TheKJVberean The Genesis story and the Ten Commandments are also in the Old Testament. Can we disregard those too? Jesus said he didn't come to change the laws of Moses. Why do you worship a god who would burn my kids forever simply for not believing in something for which there is no evidence?
Goodness Gracious, why is there ALWAYS a religious debate (that never ever achieves anything, especially over Youtube) on every video that relates to God? Seriously, it's so ridiculous. If you don't like Mark Driscoll and his teachings, don't listen to his videos. If you like him, enjoy it. But stop debating all the time. It's silly.
@TheExFatman Because his ideas are dangerous and need to be challenged. If people do not stand up to radicals, they will be given free reign over our society. If you don't want to see debates, don't look at the comment section.
@Threshingfloor814 Who told you we deserved anything but eternal suffering? God made man to reflect His glory. When man disobeyed God, man failed to reflect God's glory. What should God have done? He should have sent the entire human race to hell. We deserved no better. What did He do instead? Send His Son to humble Himself to human form, live a perfect life on earth, and die as an atonement for man's sin.
@Protoman5801 I like framing the "God and man" relationship in the context of a parent/child one. If your child disobeys you and refuses to "reflect on your glory," is it moral for you to chain that child to a wall in the basement and light him on fire? Did he or she "deserve no better?" That's pretty much what your god does according to the Bible. And the "Jesus loophole" is even more immoral than that. It's like your god throws everyone into the pool so that they will drown. And then cont'd..
@Threshingfloor814 The Bible describes the relationship between man and God as enemies. We didn't serve the purpose we were created for, in fact, we rebelled against God. In fact, man hates God, so much that we would rather burn in hell than spend a single second in the presence of God. You have to understand, that when we sin, we sin against a holy and just God, not an unholy and unjust parent. Because God is holy and just, sinful man cannot enter His presence. Cont...
@Protoman5801 "He gave us the choice to obey Him, or obey Him" was this a typo? Because this is exactly my point about your god. He gives us no choice. And blaming Adam and Eve for the fall of man is ridiculous. According to Christian "logic" god created everyone and everything; so god is ultimately responsable for giving Adam and Eve their curiosity. Your god set the whole game up. If a parent puts a loaded pistol in a crib with two toddlers, who is responsable if someone gets hurt?
@Protoman5801 walks around the edge with a life-preserver saying, "I have a life-preserver...anyone want to not drown? It's your free will to choose the life preserver." And how is it moral that I am held responsable for a supposed sin committed by someone thousands of years ago? Do we put the children of criminals in prison for the actions of their parents? Christians need to wake up and realize that their religion has no morality.
@Threshingfloor814 Your pool analogy is flawed too. God did not throw us into the pool, He gave us the choice to obey Him, or obey Him. Before man sinned against God, man had free will. He could choose whether or not he would obey and was fully capable of obeying. Now man is tainted with sin, we've inherited the sin of Adam and Eve and now live in a cursed world. Of course you must ask, how is that fair? I'm going to need a third comment t explain this... Cont...
@Protoman5801 Notice how many a priori assertions you make when defending your religion. 1)The Bible is true and moral. 2) Adam represented all mankind 3) Infinite punishment is just. 4) God is holy and just. And you take these assertions to justify each other...in a sense creating a self sealing argument. Let's start with "The Bible is true/moral" and there fore should be believed. The Bible is full of internal contradictions and flat out justifies evil immoral actions cont'd
@Threshingfloor814 Contradictions: Many people claim the Bible is full of contradictions but so far I'm yet to see a single so-called contradiction that has not been cleared up and explained by someone who was willing to unbiasedly re-evaluate the Scriptures. If you take into account the context of each passage and compare your translation of the Bible to the original text, you will find that the Bible is inerrant and does not contradict itself.
@Protoman5801 Do you have a pen and paper? The birth date of Jesus, The two Genesis accounts, what Jesus said before he was crucified, the conflicting stories about Jesus' tomb, the geneologies not matching in the Gospels, how much the Threshing floor cost David (haha!), whether or not Enoch died, whether divorce is permitted...there are about 500 of these. Do you want me to keep going?
@Protoman5801 Your second justification has a little problem with it too. Why would your god try to hide his message in all that context and ancient language that no one can speak? Why not just come out and say it in plain language. And I hate to tell you this, those contradictions are still there in the original text. And they've been known about by Biblical scholars for 1000+ years.
@Protoman5801 And my last point on this: Even in the Bible weren't internally contradictory, even if the Gospels gave one date for the birth of Jesus...it would mean just that, you had a book that isn't internally contradictory. It wouldn't prove that the Bible was special or holy in any way. But that it can't even meet that standard certainly speaks to how unlettered its authors were.
@Protoman5801 Please don't make have to point out to you all the crazy stuff in that book. Adam represented all mankind? Well, that does not change my original argument. Punishing people for the sins of others is still immoral. Obama represents America...if he gets caught stealing should all Americans be punished? Your god is one of the most immoral characters in all human history. Forcing rape victims to marry rapists, encouraging slavery...commanding someone to gut his only son. Horrible.
@Threshingfloor814 Adam as representative: There's no time in human history when mankind was more perfectly represented then in the Garden of Eden. Why? Because our representative was chosen by a perfectly holy, perfectly just, omniscient God. Through one man sin entered the world, but through one Man, we can be redeemed.
@Protoman5801 Why is Adam representitive? The Bible says so? Even if he were, you still don't get around the issue of punishing people unjustly for other people's wrongdoing. Why do you think god is holy and perfect? His actions in the Bible demonstrates that he is immoral. And how does beating and murdering another human being absolve our responsibility for bad behavior? If I went to a courthouse tomorrow and slit my wrists in front of the judge for the sake of a criminal, should he be freed?
@Threshingfloor814 The punishment for sin is death. God's wrath had to be poured out on someone who was completely blameless in order for sin to be atoned. Not only did Jesus die on the cross, but God's wrath for sin was poured out on Him. Jesus was without fault, yet He was punished as if He was a filthy sinner. God's wrath was appeased by this.
@Protoman5801 This makes no sense at all. Here is the problem, you have been told by people (no doubt over and over again) that this is some kind of loving moral system. Christianity destroys you as a human being, calls you filthy...then forces you to rebuild your ego with this religion at the center. Let´s start taking this apart: Why does God have to do anything? Why not just forgive us without having his son (or himself) brutally murdered? What an unnecessary act of violence! And con't
@Protoman5801 who would worship a god who needs to see blood to calm down, take the edge off...sounds more like a serial killer who gets profiled on SVU. This is just an extreme example of the barbaric practice of scapegoating, which was common practice in ancient Palestine. I just get so embarrassed for people who try to assert this as a praiseworthy system.
@Protoman5801 Infinite punishment for simply not believing something for which there is no evidence is also unjust. And all your arguments about sin (a notion that I reject because much of it includes harmless/ normal human behavior) all fall into these a priori assertions and tautologies that are set up to prevent you from looking at your beliefs objectively.
@Threshingfloor814 The Bible says rape victims must marry their rapist? That's not what my Bible says. Check out this clip from Driscoll: watch?v=Z-sciEkssaA
@Protoman5801 I'm sorry, the Rapist has to marry his victims...I got that mixed up. Deuteronomy 22:28-29 NLT. But that's so much more moral! (Sarcasm)
I would suggest taking a secular Bible history course. Proper reading of the Bible is the path to the freedom of atheism. :)
@Threshingfloor814 Adam served as a representative of the entire human race. In fact, Adam’s name actually means “man” or “mankind.” He was the first human being ever created and stands as the head of the human race. He was placed in the garden to act not only for himself but for all his future descendants. Just as a federal government has a chief spokesman who is the head of the nation, so Adam was the federal head of mankind. (This comment is paraphrasing and quoting Dr. R.C. Sproul)
@TheKJVberean waith, so you are saying that bc we are christians we are not sinners? bc the last time I checked, we are repented and justified ppl bc of Jesus but we continue to sin, we of course sin less and God start his work on us of sanctification and that takes ALL our live. Even Paul himself will call HIMSELF A SINNER.
Dude, check your theology. Plus in the church NOT ALL the ppl that go are christians, he mentions that to nonbelievers. Bro, the only one who has no clue is you. Sorry.
When it comes to the supernatural I have yet to have read any book of antiquity that speaks of a God so personal as the God of the bible, Every other book speaks of the Gods as extremely distant and needing our worship. the scriptures depict God as one who doesn't need anyone or anything but just wanted to be with His creation. there is nothing that can defeat Him. unlike other writings where there is the option of killing the ultimate evil to have that position of power.
Christians are sinners also, we have just been redeemed by Christ. Its just reality that we will die if Christ does not come back. He wasnt preaching on the rapture. And he never counted himself out of dying. Search the scriptures. The answers are there.
Believe this on bad or no evidence because if you don't you're going to burn forever. This man is an unwitting con artist. It doesn't get more stupid and dumb and wrong than this.
@FitnessMinded karma is receiving what we derserve which accrding to the bible is hell. We must remember Paul was writing to believers about either living in the flesh or according to the Spirit. So no we don't get what we deserve if we are in Christ Jesus. I hope this answers your questions. Romans 8 and Galatians 6 1 corinthians 3 , and 2Corinthians 5. God Bless.
The various parables of the sower talk about the word of god, i.e. the gospel, going out and not coming back empty. Karma is... well, karma.
If you're talking about Galations 6:7, where paul says "what you sow you will also reap." In that case, Paul is saying God can not be fooled, and if you are performing religious actions to receive an earthly fame or pride, than God will not have a spiritual reward for you, only an earthly one. Most, if not all of Galatians is about that.
@zakiechan I love how 80% of the Christian population in the U.S. thinks they are discriminated against. Join my world...get a few death threats from David Mabus, have your kids kicked out of the Boy Scouts...yeah, you Christians have it tough alright.
I always find it interesting when someone asks "tell me why I should believe in God" when what is even harder to grasp (but is the essence of the gospel) is that God believes in us!!
"Don't be shocked, that people die; Be surprised, you're still alive" - Flyleaf
"There's no such thing, as too young to diiie; No one's promised, an amount of tiiime; Only one life, which soon will paaass; Only what's done, for Christ will laaast." - BO(u)LDer
That is kind of the mentality behind some of the prosperity teaching on the television today. They imply, "if you have faith, you will be delivered and wealthy". So to believe their own lies/errors, they have to say that when things don't go well with those who follow them, it must be a lack of true faith. They heap insult on top of injury. That is why you get your doctrine from your church and not the TV.
@iamgodgirl I was thinking along the same line. The more spiritual you are the more you are given in this life. I have heard of some people, in that religion, who have chastised someone for being in the hospital with an illness because of their lack of faith. I think it is an oppressive and sad theology. Not to mention extremely manipulative and exploitive. Have a great day.
Americans don't understand what karma really is, and I completely agree with Mark, however he doesn't quite understand it either it seems. I don't believe in karma as it is seen by Americans either. Karma in Hinduism really means fulfilling your dharma, which is your duty in life. Mark is completely right, people don't anything like karma, they need the Gospel, if they figured that out they'd all be happy.
@GiantRobotNTT ... "they need the Gospel, if they figured that out they'd all be happy."
Strange, I HAD the Gospel, was a church youth leader, believed in the transcendent power of God, studied the Bible, prayed... and was thoroughly UNHAPPY. Now that I've put aside those things for reason and introspective awareness I feel fulfilled and truly happy - no more cognitive disconnect. Everyone's got to get to that place on their own. There is NOT a be-all-end-all band-aid for everyone; I'm proof.
@vryc that tells me that whtever happened to you adn whoever taught you, or whatever desicion that was made either by you or whatever church you were part of, they or yourself stragled the holy spirit and the loving embrace of Father. Religion does that strangles you to submit adn not allowing one to be broadminded. I am proof that a christian can be spirit filled full gospel beleiver knowing both natural and supernatural disciplines, I use logic , and reason, both natural and supernatural
@twotune "I use logic , and reason, both natural and supernatural."
Everyone's different; I get that. However, since logic and reason can ONLY be used in a rational sense, and since supernatural (whatever that means) is beyond reality then rationality CANNOT be used. I'm sure there are a myriad of other processes by which to attain a 'knowing' of the supernatural but logic and reason are not included in this list - I use knowing in the pejorative sense since you CANNOT know anything about God.
@vryc supernatural (whatever that means) is beyond reality? I thought supernatural meant something like an event that behaved out of the norm of observations and cannot be understood or varified, or something like "outside the scope of scientific methods".
@zelda0521 I guess 'supernatural' could be defined in a number of ways. I think I'd trend towards to constituent definition in which it is broken up and then recombined: Super - hyper, beyond, et al... Natural - reality... could go on ad nauseum
@roslynny If you watch the peasant princess series then you will find out that he dresses to impress his wife and not you or anyone else. Jesus replied, "I tell you the truth, everyone who sins is a slave to sin.
Now a slave has no permanent place in the family, but a son belongs to it forever.
So if the Son sets you free, you are truly free"

there is plenty of evidence that jesus existed... i mean come on! we measure time
around his birth and death.. to say jesus didn't exist is going AGAINST the evidence.
its seriously amazes me how many atheists find their way to "Christian" videos.
someone calling you?
MrKerpelWatson 2 months ago

But really it's only wrong when what is RIGHT goes against a lifestyle of excess drinking, sexual immorality, and debauchery that any self righteous person wants.
zukosstruggle 2 months ago
@ShotzMaster117 - 2000 years ago... 4000 years ago... Slavery was a matter of status. Many of them asked to be indentured slaves, very contrary to white colonial slavery. No I don't want Him to get rid of anyone, but because of His righteous jealousy, I embrace and am happy for what ever He does for me. Lastly, even if the Bible were "morally wrong," what in atheism or evolutionary history tells any being that God is morally wrong or morally right to do anything what so ever?
zukosstruggle 2 months ago
@ShotzMaster117 - ... There's nothing in the Bible that tells us that if we pray that war go away and limbs come back, it will happen. Everywhere in the Bible it is stated that there will be no Utopia and complete happiness through faith and prayer on this earth for us. But there are countless verses in the Bible that tells us that the trials of this world is not worth the glory of Eternity. That's why I pray that you come to Faith and avoid eternal punishment.
zukosstruggle 2 months ago
@ShotzMaster117 - I'm happy that we communicated. These topics are very exhaustive, but I'm not going to be combative like I have in the past and blast the comments section with Zukosstruggle @ ShotzMaster117 everywhere. If you would like to communicate more (in an mutually inviting tone) message me sometime.
zukosstruggle 2 months ago
@ShotzMaster117 - Prayer is pretty powerful stuff. But in another regard towards slavery and murder, there's no equating the type of white colonial slavery, to biblical bond servant slavery. I would rejoice to have the old testament God that does away with the wicked who attempts to turn my eyes away from Him. Thirdly, Flavious Josephus A.D. 37, Dio Cassius, Diodorus of Sicily, Tacitus, and many other Anti/non Christian historians have a different stance on Jesus's existence.
zukosstruggle 2 months ago
@ShotzMaster117 - Well there is a lot of evidence for Him. I'm not a big fan of Mark Driscoll, but I don't think he shows a lot of attributes you listed. Arrogance maybe here and there. My prayer is that you come to believe, and abound in the Grace of Christ.

It is in the nature of delusion that the deluded cannot see the irony of their own position:
"Tragedy & Stupid Preachers" juxtaposed with "Mark Driscoll"
All these men are charlatans who dupe people into believing that they are experts.
But the bottom lie is:
They no nothing except how to talk and they believe in magic.
StrumstickJoe 4 months ago

@xoakleyx Oh! OK!
But at least I don't believe in magic and try to spread lies around the world.
I don't threaten people with terrifying eternity.
I tell them they're deluded - but I don't tell them they have been born with a "sin" because the bitch ate an apple.
I don't tell them that a celestial zombie can remove their "sin".
I don't lie to children and force them to a lifetime grovelling to an imagined deity.
StrumstickJoe 4 months ago
@StrumstickJoe
How are they "charlatans" and how do they know "nothing" and what "magic" are you talking about?
eltronrangamma 4 months ago
@eltronrangamma I didn't say they know nothing.
They know how to spin a good tale and make a lot of money.
StrumstickJoe 4 months ago
@StrumstickJoe
Who are you to say someone should not believe in God?
kutless45 4 months ago
@kutless45 And who are you to say that someone should - when your "evidence" is non-existent?
Are you party to privileged information?
Magic is not something that is inexplicable - it is something that is impractical, impossible, and completely lacking in example.
StrumstickJoe 4 months ago
@StrumstickJoe
That is completely sensible, and the ancients believed it to.
kutless45 4 months ago
@StrumstickJoe
Do you know what magic means? Can you define it for me here and then see how it applies to supernatural occurences? Have you ever considered that scientists are now speculating there are worlds that are not 3 dimensions (worlds that go up to 10 dimensions) and that maybe the stuff that happens in the Bible cannot be explained because just we cannot describe the properties of a world in, say, 6 dimensions?
eltronrangamma 4 months ago
@eltronrangamma Supernatural = magic.
Magic = supernatural.
StrumstickJoe 4 months ago
@StrumstickJoe
Nice, making up definitions on the go, huh?
eltronrangamma 4 months ago
@StrumstickJoe
I just want to make clear what your views are.
eltronrangamma 4 months ago
@eltronrangamma "So that means you must believe in the idea that the development of the universe started......."
No it doesn't!
I haven't told you how I think the universe started... or even whether it did start...
I have not discussed science with you, and indeed, it would be a waste of time discussing science with a believer in the supernatural.
Are either of us qualified to opine on the subject of the origin of matter?
Men who spend their lives doing that are not even near the truth.
StrumstickJoe 4 months ago
@StrumstickJoe
The point is, if you don't believe in a God, then that means you must believe in another way the universe came about. So I am wondering what your beliefs are, how provable and "scientific" they are, because maybe I'll come to believe what you believe and we can join forces and make this world less superstitious and take out any gods.
eltronrangamma 4 months ago
@eltronrangamma What I hold is not a belief. My principles are not a faith. I need not truth or science or reason alone to support me; these are necessary rather than sufficient requirements, but I distrust careless or superstitious hearsay posing as truth, especially if it contradicts science or outrages reason. I respect no belief in the supernatural or mystical, including the existence of soul and individual eternity. I do respect open-mindedness and free inquiry.
StrumstickJoe 4 months ago
@StrumstickJoe

Threshingfloor814 6 months ago
@Threshingfloor814 Who told you we deserved anything but eternal suffering? God made man to reflect His glory. When man disobeyed God, man failed to reflect God's glory. What should God have done? He should have sent the entire human race to hell. We deserved no better. What did He do instead? Send His Son to humble Himself to human form, live a perfect life on earth, and die as an atonement for man's sin.
Protoman5801 6 months ago
@Protoman5801 I like framing the "God and man" relationship in the context of a parent/child one. If your child disobeys you and refuses to "reflect on your glory," is it moral for you to chain that child to a wall in the basement and light him on fire? Did he or she "deserve no better?" That's pretty much what your god does according to the Bible. And the "Jesus loophole" is even more immoral than that. It's like your god throws everyone into the pool so that they will drown. And then cont'd..
Threshingfloor814 6 months ago
@Threshingfloor814 The Bible describes the relationship between man and God as enemies. We didn't serve the purpose we were created for, in fact, we rebelled against God. In fact, man hates God, so much that we would rather burn in hell than spend a single second in the presence of God. You have to understand, that when we sin, we sin against a holy and just God, not an unholy and unjust parent. Because God is holy and just, sinful man cannot enter His presence. Cont...
Protoman5801 6 months ago
@Protoman5801 "He gave us the choice to obey Him, or obey Him" was this a typo? Because this is exactly my point about your god. He gives us no choice. And blaming Adam and Eve for the fall of man is ridiculous. According to Christian "logic" god created everyone and everything; so god is ultimately responsable for giving Adam and Eve their curiosity. Your god set the whole game up. If a parent puts a loaded pistol in a crib with two toddlers, who is responsable if someone gets hurt?
Threshingfloor814 6 months ago
@Protoman5801 walks around the edge with a life-preserver saying, "I have a life-preserver...anyone want to not drown? It's your free will to choose the life preserver." And how is it moral that I am held responsable for a supposed sin committed by someone thousands of years ago? Do we put the children of criminals in prison for the actions of their parents? Christians need to wake up and realize that their religion has no morality.
Threshingfloor814 6 months ago
@Threshingfloor814 Your pool analogy is flawed too. God did not throw us into the pool, He gave us the choice to obey Him, or obey Him. Before man sinned against God, man had free will. He could choose whether or not he would obey and was fully capable of obeying. Now man is tainted with sin, we've inherited the sin of Adam and Eve and now live in a cursed world. Of course you must ask, how is that fair? I'm going to need a third comment t explain this... Cont...
Protoman5801 6 months ago
@Protoman5801 Notice how many a priori assertions you make when defending your religion. 1)The Bible is true and moral. 2) Adam represented all mankind 3) Infinite punishment is just. 4) God is holy and just. And you take these assertions to justify each other...in a sense creating a self sealing argument. Let's start with "The Bible is true/moral" and there fore should be believed. The Bible is full of internal contradictions and flat out justifies evil immoral actions cont'd
Threshingfloor814 6 months ago
@Threshingfloor814 Contradictions: Many people claim the Bible is full of contradictions but so far I'm yet to see a single so-called contradiction that has not been cleared up and explained by someone who was willing to unbiasedly re-evaluate the Scriptures. If you take into account the context of each passage and compare your translation of the Bible to the original text, you will find that the Bible is inerrant and does not contradict itself.
Protoman5801 6 months ago
@Protoman5801 Do you have a pen and paper? The birth date of Jesus, The two Genesis accounts, what Jesus said before he was crucified, the conflicting stories about Jesus' tomb, the geneologies not matching in the Gospels, how much the Threshing floor cost David (haha!), whether or not Enoch died, whether divorce is permitted...there are about 500 of these. Do you want me to keep going?
Threshingfloor814 6 months ago
@Protoman5801 Your second justification has a little problem with it too. Why would your god try to hide his message in all that context and ancient language that no one can speak? Why not just come out and say it in plain language. And I hate to tell you this, those contradictions are still there in the original text. And they've been known about by Biblical scholars for 1000+ years.
Threshingfloor814 6 months ago
@Protoman5801 And my last point on this: Even in the Bible weren't internally contradictory, even if the Gospels gave one date for the birth of Jesus...it would mean just that, you had a book that isn't internally contradictory. It wouldn't prove that the Bible was special or holy in any way. But that it can't even meet that standard certainly speaks to how unlettered its authors were.
Threshingfloor814 6 months ago
@Protoman5801 Please don't make have to point out to you all the crazy stuff in that book. Adam represented all mankind? Well, that does not change my original argument. Punishing people for the sins of others is still immoral. Obama represents America...if he gets caught stealing should all Americans be punished? Your god is one of the most immoral characters in all human history. Forcing rape victims to marry rapists, encouraging slavery...commanding someone to gut his only son. Horrible.
Threshingfloor814 6 months ago
@Threshingfloor814 Adam as representative: There's no time in human history when mankind was more perfectly represented then in the Garden of Eden. Why? Because our representative was chosen by a perfectly holy, perfectly just, omniscient God. Through one man sin entered the world, but through one Man, we can be redeemed.
Protoman5801 6 months ago
@Protoman5801 Why is Adam representitive? The Bible says so? Even if he were, you still don't get around the issue of punishing people unjustly for other people's wrongdoing. Why do you think god is holy and perfect? His actions in the Bible demonstrates that he is immoral. And how does beating and murdering another human being absolve our responsibility for bad behavior? If I went to a courthouse tomorrow and slit my wrists in front of the judge for the sake of a criminal, should he be freed?
Threshingfloor814 6 months ago
@Threshingfloor814 The punishment for sin is death. God's wrath had to be poured out on someone who was completely blameless in order for sin to be atoned. Not only did Jesus die on the cross, but God's wrath for sin was poured out on Him. Jesus was without fault, yet He was punished as if He was a filthy sinner. God's wrath was appeased by this.
Protoman5801 6 months ago
@Protoman5801 This makes no sense at all. Here is the problem, you have been told by people (no doubt over and over again) that this is some kind of loving moral system. Christianity destroys you as a human being, calls you filthy...then forces you to rebuild your ego with this religion at the center. Let´s start taking this apart: Why does God have to do anything? Why not just forgive us without having his son (or himself) brutally murdered? What an unnecessary act of violence! And con't
Threshingfloor814 6 months ago
@Protoman5801 who would worship a god who needs to see blood to calm down, take the edge off...sounds more like a serial killer who gets profiled on SVU. This is just an extreme example of the barbaric practice of scapegoating, which was common practice in ancient Palestine. I just get so embarrassed for people who try to assert this as a praiseworthy system.
Threshingfloor814 6 months ago
@Protoman5801 Infinite punishment for simply not believing something for which there is no evidence is also unjust. And all your arguments about sin (a notion that I reject because much of it includes harmless/ normal human behavior) all fall into these a priori assertions and tautologies that are set up to prevent you from looking at your beliefs objectively.
Threshingfloor814 6 months ago
@Threshingfloor814 The Bible says rape victims must marry their rapist? That's not what my Bible says. Check out this clip from Driscoll: watch?v=Z-sciEkssaA

R.C. Sproul)

So no we don't get what we deserve if we are in Christ Jesus. I hope this answers your questions. Romans 8 and Galatians 6 1 corinthians 3 , and 2Corinthians 5. God Bless.

Please explain how karma is different from the parable of the sower?
FitnessMinded 1 year ago
@FitnessMinded

@GiantRobotNTT "If a Christian doesn't experience persecution or hardship or trial, they're probably doing something wrong."
There isn't a christian alive that knows what real persecution is. Being told that your beliefs are crazy is not quite the same as being fed to lions.

@Domingo0022IWAY - I don't either, but I sure like his chameleon!

Nice message. It is nice to hear a preacher who is willing to tell it like it is. I hope he stays bold.

This is very good teaching. Thanks!

I can just imagine all of us saying "God why won't you answer our questions?"
and He's probably just like "Dude, I gave you Jesus. Chill out."

GiantRobotNTT 1 year ago
@GiantRobotNTT ... "they need the Gospel, if they figured that out they'd all be happy."
Strange, I HAD the Gospel, was a church youth leader, believed in the transcendent power of God, studied the Bible, prayed... and was thoroughly UNHAPPY. Now that I've put aside those things for reason and introspective awareness I feel fulfilled and truly happy - no more cognitive disconnect. Everyone's got to get to that place on their own. There is NOT a be-all-end-all band-aid for everyone; I'm proof.
vryc 1 year ago
@vryc that tells me that whtever happened to you adn whoever taught you, or whatever desicion that was made either by you or whatever church you were part of, they or yourself stragled the holy spirit and the loving embrace of Father. Religion does that strangles you to submit adn not allowing one to be broadminded. I am proof that a christian can be spirit filled full gospel beleiver knowing both natural and supernatural disciplines, I use logic , and reason, both natural and supernatural
twotune 1 year ago
@twotune "I use logic , and reason, both natural and supernatural."
Everyone's different; I get that. However, since logic and reason can ONLY be used in a rational sense, and since supernatural (whatever that means) is beyond reality then rationality CANNOT be used. I'm sure there are a myriad of other processes by which to attain a 'knowing' of the supernatural but logic and reason are not included in this list - I use knowing in the pejorative sense since you CANNOT know anything about God.
vryc 1 year ago
@vryc supernatural (whatever that means) is beyond reality? I thought supernatural meant something like an event that behaved out of the norm of observations and cannot be understood or varified, or something like "outside the scope of scientific methods".
zelda0521 1 year ago
@zelda0521 I guess 'supernatural' could be defined in a number of ways. I think I'd trend towards to constituent definition in which it is broken up and then recombined: Super - hyper, beyond, et al... Natural - reality... could go on ad nauseum
