in 1973 and 74, saw King Crimson at least half a dozen times. between the support act and KC, this is what they played over the PA... the audience was transported to another place, and then they came on. brilliant. ...and then then, when the concert was over,... it came back on... so love this work of art.
@dennymc997 the first time i heard eno was in our disco - "3rd uncle"... i thought he had made this one record and bought one - "evening star"... listening to "an index of metals" i was terribly disappointed and angry about this "bullshit" - sometime later i watched a local band - they played an eerie music on the PA and, exactly like you desribe, i was transported to another place... some days later it came to me - of course it was "an index of metals" - i still love it... greetings
Awesome! I haven't listened to this album in years. Used to put it on the turntable at bedtime. This was definitely my favorite piece - though Swastika Girls is pretty good, too.
@aWorldCitizen9 Yes! all of the A side of the vinyl. cool! Run it from the Cmptr thru the PA, crank it up, n' screw with the sqirrels heads! Maybe they'll not be stealing seeds from the bird feeder tomorrow?
Now we need it backwards.

I was16
It was New Years Eve
My mate had a (a granny who had a) beach-hut overlooking the solent
We was drunk
there was a bonfire
There were starz on a cold clear nite
This was on cassette
How cool is that?

Best Album Cover of All Time.
This work album a tour de force.
It is impossible to think of anything to surpass it.
I would opine personally speaking this to be seminal Eno.

Best ambient track of all time.
Very first use of Frippertronics.
