Indeed, his first wife wrote a "tell all" book about him though other people characterized the book as a "work of vengeance."

Also, of course, Dean Martin got sick of him though Lewis speaks highly of Martin and while Martin was hardly a saint, he was definitely considered a "nicer guy" than Lewis.

Also, "real" critics of cinema and comedy in the US don't find Lewis funny.

Jerry Lewis' schtick was great for it's era. When I was a kid, I thought he was hilarious. Now, I see idiots like Martin Lawrence trying to be him and wish Jerry were still doing his schtick. It's not funny until you have to watch some wanna' be like Martin try to ape his routine. When you compare the two, Jerry's hilarious again. He's also a genius. My advice to Martin Lawrence's and other wanna' be's fans, "Don't mistake lack of talent for genius".
