  • I have an AA and a BS and I was able to get a great job. I beat out several canidates from traditional colleges...one being Stanford. You have hit a homerun in the interview and you will be fine. UOP degree gets in the game...you have to do the rest. Good luck!

  • I attend UOP now and have never had a problem with them.

  • Their loan default rate is about to get them kicked off the Direct Loan program. So many of their graduates can't get jobs to pay them off and it was shown they lied about their job placement rates in the GAO investigation. Employers don't take the degree seriously.

  • i thought the Gi bill was suppose to pay for everything. well with the pre 9/11 i get $1600 a month, I cant work bc i have a daughter that i have to stay home with. so i have to rely on that, well when my pre 9/11 runs out in 16 months i switch to my post 9/11 and my counselor said i will said i will only get $650 a month but it will pay for my school? does anyone know anthing about this? why do i have to take out loans when gi bill should pay for everything? is it bc i have pre 9/11 right now?

  • @trishdadish82 at the time I was using 911 Post GI bill...but now I'm using Voc Rehab..all I know is you cant double dip meaning you can switch once double dipping means three years here three years with this one etc..I'm really not sure because I dont know many people with pre 9/11 and I'm using Voc Rehab they paying 100% all the way until I get my MBA everything is totally free..this interntet and computer and printer they pay for and u still get your stipeden and book and paper supplies

  • @ShaCourtney My take on this subject is simple. Why spend time and money on something that comes into question later on? You worked hard and served your country to get your G.I bill, I would hate to see you squander that gift. Some places would hire you, while others wouldn't, so you're rolling the dice on it.

  • yes I am expiriencing some difficulty. I jsut got my AA there for business. I was also in the military for 4 years-the Navy, and when I signed up my counselore told me to use the pre 9/11 chapt 30, then switch to the post 9/11. I think that was a big mistake b/c now the school is saying that with the pre 9/11 and even a pell grant that is not enough to pay for my tuition, so i have to take out a loan. Am a very confused by this, maybe you know or anyone else who knows..will continue..

  • I went to University of Phoenix and 55 out of my 60 credits transferred to the University of Maryland. My daughter is a teacher and they recommend University of Phoenix for teachers who want to further their education.

  • I'm sorry but why would you choose to attend University of Phoenix? I am not truly understanding this. I don't understand how these for-profit universities are able to commit this amount of fraud. They're literally stealing money from the gov't, and well my head hurts thinking about this.

  • The problem I have with for profit schools is the fact their credits will NOT transfer to any University. Also you will not be admitted to grad school if you hold a degree from an for profit school. You are rolling the dice when it comes to employment also. Some places will except for profit school degree while others will pass you up politely.

  • this is no longer a issue for me...my new job told me if i stick it out i can cross train a degree is a DEGREE so i will now have a job lol..

  • @ShaCourtney This is what I have been told as well, good luck on your endeavors and keep pushing forward. And education and what he or she learns in class or online is still valid and personally I believe that it is valuable. Online is geared for the "working" class, parents, and people who have that ability to be self sufficient. I think it is harder, but the one thing that I know is that getting an education is becoming more contagious. That is a great thing! Again good luck!

  • @ILMspa thank you :)

  • Do a search for PBS Frontline. When you find the page search their video archives for College Inc. This will give you the all negatives of for-profit schools.

  • Hey, Sweetie. I would recommend finding a non-profit school. Wether the education is online or in class is really not the big issue. The vast majority of money that for-profit spends is in advertising to recruit new students and less on improving the quality of their education programs. This is one reason Phoenix isn't taken as serious as other institutions.

  • @greg0879 i dont understand what a for-profit school means? as opposed to a non-profit school?

  • @trishdadish82 There are a number of differences, but the most crucial is how the schools are run. For-profits primary goal is to make money by getting students to sign up. They are far less interested in ensuring quality & that their programs are certified, i.e. properly accredited and recognized by higher authorities. For-profits often mislead students into thinking their programs will land them a high paying job in the field they studied in, when if fact the degrees are often worthless.

  • @greg0879 the CFO of my job graduated from University of Phoenix she is big banking so it all depends..my job said it didnt matter

  • The military will pay for anything well my program I'm using...I dont have a issue financially I'm using Voc Rehab due to my injury i recevied being active duty and they are paying 100% my problem is, is this university worth it? I'm nervous but chosing to continue my studies despite all..

  • I did graduate from there with my Masters in Education. Despite you having your education paid for by the military, it can effect you more than you know. If there is any problems with your course and the military does not cover the course and issue happened in, you are responsible for the money for that course. In my area I have not had much respect in interviews due to the education I received at the university. I have had to explain to several the school is accredited and not just online.

  • @gmadams75 Interesting, were you able to find a job as a teacher??

  • @gmadams75 I'm not judging you, please understand that, but it ALWAYS helps to proofread what you write before making it accessible to the public. Just an FYI out of love...

  • @gmadams75 that is the problem i am having. i just got my AA form UOP and i was using the pre 9/11 gi bill and had a pell grant and had a loan too b/c they said the gi bill and the pell grant would not cover my tuiton, but i thought the gi bill was suppose to cover everythign, now they are saying i have to pay them $2000 for my last set of classes for the gi bill i think? i dont even know anymore i am so confused
