wow. awesome. I'm assigned this movement for the chamber summer camp next month (I'm a pianist). The pianist in this group is supposed tol be one of the piano teachers at the camp! so cool :)
@bakrek1 Yes I was there. I had the honor of accompanying my sister Linda Rose and her students to the festival. It was a music fest every day. You could hear young people and their teachers rehearsing all over town. A most beautiful place. Castelnuova di Garfanana.
Thank you for your comments. You are almost correct in your observation - this was not a rehearsed "public performance" per se, but rather a "concerto dei docenti" -- a concert for the students by the teachers, who only came together for the first time a week before this performance.
This is one of the best performances of this I have heard.Very talented musicians, esp the pianist, violist and cellist. The cellist reminds me of du Pre' I listen to this once or twice a week.
Thank you for your kind comments. I too never tire of listening to this performance. I just wish I had better video equipment when I recorded it than the rather ancient Sony 8mm that I used.
Yes Boris Slutsky was the glue that held this performance together. If your piano teacher still has contact with Mr. Slutsky, perhaps he can inform him of this video. He may not know it is on YouTube. And thank you for commenting.
Wonderful, just wonderful. I have seen many videos on the dvorak quintet but this is by far the best. The 1st violinist and the violist are doing a great job. My favorite solo of the 1st violinist is so pure. Thanks for this!!!
Unfortunately these superb musicians only came together serendipitously because they were all attending and teaching at the annual International Academy of Music Festival in Tuscany in 2005. In addition to the five artists in the video, there were an additional five or six of equal calibre, e.g. Anna Pelekh, Efrem Briskin, etc.
Amazingly, all of the concerts that they give during this festival are completely free! If you are ever in Tuscany during this time, do not miss them - or the gelato!
@blp43000 Since these superb musicians only came together for this combined music festival and master class, it is highly unlikely that they will ever play together again.
One can only wish that they have the opportunity to do more recording--just so satisfying!

Someone made a comment about partying after teaching and rehearsals. NO partying. Concerts every afternoon and evening.

@bakrek1 Were you one of the fortunate few to be there? If so, student or instructor?

Absolutely beautiful! I also thoroughly enjoyed Antonin Dvořák's Piano Quintet, Op. 81 2nd Mvt. (Parts 1 & 2)

can tell this was put together last minute....5minutes into the video, violin one and violin two have really weird harmony.
I'm sure they are top-notch violinists, and both have good intonation, but somehow they sound out of tune when played together.

this is wonderful. My piano teacher studied at Peabody with Boris Slutsky, and it is my first time hearing him play.
