Billy Swan - I Can Help

I think I heard Casey Kasem say that the long "in-studio" applause was due to the fact that a dog was biting Billy's leg during the song, and the applause was for Billy sticking with the tune! Is that true? I think Casey said that "I Can Help" & "Love Will Keep Us Together" are the only songs (or at least #1's) with applause at the end, despite being performed in studio.

Even though this song came out in 1974, it sounds like 1957. Then again, Marshall Crenshaw's 'Someday Someway' sounds like 1962 instead of 1982. Kudo to both Marshall and Billy.

I was a young Mom with 2 children working hard to take care of them, and this was playing when I met my husband 1975. He was so like the words in this song. Always wanting to help me, and loving me too, just like the song. I miss him so much.

I was 8 years old when this came out & the 1st time I heard it I thought it was a new Elvis song. Years later I learned that the applause at the end was from family & friends, because of the fact Billy's German Shepherd was in the studio as he recorded this, & kept trying to jump up & play with him, & they applauded that he made it through the recording due to the fact. Still have my original bought new 45.

Anybody else think that Billy sounded like Ringo Starr on this 1? Billboard's 384th #1 hit of the rock era. God bless! The applause happened 'cause a dog wandered into the studio, while Billy was recordin', and started jumpin' on him. True story!
