I'm not a hunter, but I'm considering a .17 HMR rifle for target shooting and to help with a possible coyote problem we may have around here. I like it for the buy-in cost, accuracy, and lack of ricochet (semi-populated rural area). Will it work at 100 yards with the 20 gr. controlled expansion bullet? .22 mag better choice?
Some of us hunters can speak the good ingleesh cause we did done gone to college. When I's in college, I took land management and lernt how to kill bad critters so good critters can live.

If you were using iron sights at 274 meters, I can understand missing a badger noggin by a few centimeters with your 5.56 Busher. The .17 certainly did light a part in his hair though. He had a kickin' headache and a scar to boot.

Badgers are not rare where I live. Farmers hate them because they dig holes under the tractors and things. I saw three badgers dead on the highway yesterday so I think the population is doing ok. But they do eat pests like rats, ground squirrels, and rattlesnakes.

I'm not a hunter, but I'm considering a .17 HMR rifle for target shooting and to help with a possible coyote problem we may have around here. I like it for the buy-in cost, accuracy, and lack of ricochet (semi-populated rural area). Will it work at 100 yards with the 20 gr. controlled expansion bullet? .22 mag better choice?

Why would anyone eat a badger? But I do agree on that one if you are going to shoot something at least do something with it. Since you cant eat them or I wouldnt I would have at least skinned him. I have been doing some predator calling so I can sell furs and a badger would probably bring good money. Like I said before this animal never felt the impact of the bullet. I have seen one killed at more than 100 yards with a 17HMR so stop crying about its suffering. And I have personally killed one from 50 yards with a 22lr and it didnt suffer. Im sure if you had to live around the destructive little fuckers u would shoot them also.

i gotta ask what kind of round you were using with the .17 hmr? i dont know how thick a badger skull is, but at 50 yards im getting full penetration through a piece of OAK about 2" thick with a 17 grain rubber tipped "target" round. seems to me you that should have been a kill unless you didnt get full burn inside the casing or something

Badgers are not rare where I live. Farmers hate them because they dig holes under the tractors and things. I saw three badgers dead on the highway yesterday so I think the population is doing ok. But they do eat pests like rats, ground squirrels, and rattlesnakes.
