@joelSanFrancisco Hey, thank you for helping me celebrate that. It's a story that deserves our attention, isn't it? Not the 2000 listens, but the story of those men. I appreciate you taking the time to leave that message ;-)
@Monkeykelci All the very best to you whatever you decided and thank you for taking the time to leave such a generous comment. All the best from British Columbia ;-)
Didn't really like the sound but the action is far greater than how it sounds. I bet he would be honored that such kind words were put into song. He is a true soldier and is an inspiration. He is/was my inspiration to join tge Army. I feel honored just to serve in the same branch. This goes to all prior service who were honorably discharged. Its a pleasure.
Johnny - G R E A T song and great rendition. I was captivated. I think I'll probably hear it in my head for days. You have the perfect singing voice to deliver it too. I wish Dick could have heard it. You captured some of the mental anguish that must have haunted, though he never showed it too much.
@joelSanFrancisco Thank you very much for taking the time to write those kind words. When I write I really hope that I'll communicate something so it matters a great deal to hear I've managed to succeed in that mission. Cheers from British Columbia ;-)
Your commitment in time and respect, with such a moving ode to the men of Easy Company is a fitting tribute to those that we here today stand and recognize, but so much more so to those...that never came back...to live the wonderful lives that we are so indebted to those who gave their last measure. Every day...we must..as was said at the end of Saving Private Ryan....EARN IT!
Dick would be the last one to admit to any of all our comments, praise and honor about him.....and all he accompolished. In fact, he was so humble he wouldnt even allow the fact that he passed to be notifed to the media...until after his funeral. ....because to his mind...I am sure he was just the guy who had the fortune or fate to lead his company.
Thats why...he took the position...that he was not a hero....but was fortunate to serve in a company of heroes!
@leathershine That, in and of itself, is remarkable. I watched the documentary The Men Of Easy Company, and as powerful as the HBO series was/is, the real men telling their stories is just amazing. Ought to be required study in current history curriculum.
Well done and very moving, Johnny...Those chords after "the Fourth of July" were wonderful. This is a fitting tribute to a true American hero. We owe him and his generation so very much. May he and his fellow warriors know love and peace and happiness forever. God bless you Major Winters.
@SuperGreenmachine1 I appreciate that very much. He was a real example in a number of ways. Remarkable that he insisted he would draw no attention on his passing. He really sincerely rejected the idea he was a hero, but he laid on the line for freedom so I think he might smile upon hearing our insistence that he WAS, without any question, a hero.
HOLY SHIT!!! that was amazing If winters ever heard that it would bring tears to his eye great job buddy a friend from the north. R.I.P Winters Lest we Forget
@JonnyAinsley27 He lived a very long life, and I agree, sometime with folks who are "larger than life" it's hard to imagine they pass. He will be remembered...
@johnny909 We are in a day and age when terms like "hero" and "superstar" have become trite through overuse. When it comes to Major Dick Winters - there was a true hero. I struggle for the words to describe the undying debt of gratitude we all owe Maj. Winters, and the men who fought and died alongside him.
Your melodic sense and musical skills are admirable; you've musically "described" that debt of gratitude that I wish I could craft in my own way. A truly wonderful tribute.
@gotmilk7926 Thanks so much. I really do appreciate your comment. I worked on this song for a long time because I wanted to get it as "right" as I could. It might have been much longer, and mentioned more of the men by name, but my concern was that then I might lose the central impulse musically (the feeling) and the essential story about how horrible war is, and it's immense human cost.
We share that moment when we turn on the camera, move into place, take a breath, wiggle our fingers, pray memory doesn't desert us, and sing the song. We watch the "views" climb, wait for a comment or two. We do it because we love the experience of making something which may actually touch someone. Took me a week to get around to listening, John. Glad I did, and glad you took the time and walked the mile in the protagonist's shoes. It's one of your best. -DL
Thanks so much Duke. You sure nailed the moment of song making. I worked hard on this one, needing it to speak, if at all possible, for someone else than me.
Thanks so much Linda. It felt like a risk, because I knew it would come up short, but I've given it my best shot. A song to honour, properly, this story and all the men would be very very long indeed. Thanks again.
that was a great song and a great performance...cheers

Major Winters is one of the reasons I am even considering serving in the military. He was an amazing man. And this is quite the tribute.
I enjoyed it with tears in my eyes.
Thank you, sir.
Currahee, Major Winters. Rest in peace with those of your brothers that have joined you in heaven.
