In the car? I guess you hooked it up to the 9 volt jack somehow...that's actually really cool. It would work better than the little standard lamps if you need a lot of light.
Have you ever tried a mogul compact? I can't find any plugs for them or any inserts. I think it has to just be wired basic style. I don't have a clue how to do that. I don't want to get electricuted either. I did that once before with a mini tazer on accident. It was really painful
That is one blink happy PL lamp! I like the preheat compact fluorescents much better than those boring instant start electronic ones they sell today. The startup is more interesting plus they pretty much last forever. The spirals of today don't even last the hours they are rated for on the box!
I have a LOA (Lights of America) 25 W from 1999-2003 that is still going today. By the look of the bulb, only about 2,000 hours. Rated for 10,000. I dropped it on a carpet by accident and it didn't break. Pretty thick glass, I'll make a video about it soon.
do you think the electronic ballast are intentionally made to not last very long? some of my 18 year old magnetics are still working but these spirals crap out after only a couple of years...so much for REAL energy savings, much less $.
and can you still get magnetics?
what brand electronic ballast types are more dependable?
I got this one in the mid 90s. it has the old fashion magnetic ballast with a preheat starter. all the newer ones are electronic ballast and start instantly.
hey i have some 45 year old or so mag ballasts they still light up the 9 watt U lights, they are my dads he gave them to me. all i have to buy is the bulb and thats why i like them. they flicker for some times about 10 sec or so, but i don't care. i love them also because they start in the cold here in maine -10F or so in the winter
how are you using it in ur car? do you have wire to your house?

I have one of these but mine has been modified a bit to fit in my desk lamp and run a "PL" style tube.

Yep...and I never knew that energy-saving light were made in 1990s >_>
KWolfM 3 years ago
yep, but they were nowhere near as popular as most of them were preheat like this and had to "flicker" on just like this one does.
