Im 17, I graduated high school early,

I tutor kids in my neighborhood for free,

and I also volunteer as an art teacher at one of the local community centers.

I was there too: full of warm and fuzzy feelings from my liberal education, chock full of ACLU and Amnesty International feelings and thinking that inner city problems were ALL the white man's fault.

Start working a paying job and dropping a good chunk of your pay for taxes for the next decade or so and I guarantee that your rosy disposition on the plight of the Inner City will dim drastically.

I do not believe the problem will ever be resolved. The LA's chief of police thinks their doing something by murdering people like Tookie William's and calling it a blow on the war on gangs! All the police did was allow a major flow of Mexican gangs that murder cops on sight! Honestly I do not see Crack as the problem, I see the people that bring it here a problem. The war on drugs itself can only be faught where its grown not imprisoning some kid selling nickel bags on the corner!

I agree that the problem won't be resolved. It's in too deep and too far. I also agree that taking-out a figurehead like Tookie is no blow on the war on gangs. I also agree that those of us in policing can do better with hitting the suppliers (where we have jurisdiction) and not a guy with a nickel bag of weed. I agree! Drug use is by and large more of a health issue. You don't see people committing all kinds of crimes to get a drink (of liquor)--lol!!

And it is also a spiritual issue. Apathy isn't a crime--but it certainly becomes one when something happens to a loved one. This is why I love reciting the (7) kwanzaa principles of blackness. It helps to rediscover what we should do and then acting on it (hopefully) will inspire others to do the same.

And it is good for ALL people--not just black.
