I remember first seeing this trailer on a public access movie show in Florida. I rented the movie from Blockbuster when I got back to New Hampshire and eventually was able to order a new copy of my own. Love the movie. Far from perfect (lots of dumb gags and shit), but all is forgiven. And this movie has the best trailer in the history of trailerdom. "It's the kind of movie you would make, if you didn't have anything better to do!" "Five years in the making! Five days in the theaters!" LOL = D
That evil movie producer really WAS/IS an evil movie producer. Mike got really ripped off by a lot of people over this film. If you can get it, BUY it if at all possible. It's really worth having an original of it.
I heard the "corrupt and evil movie producer" was REALLY a corrupt and evil movie producer. and he's one of the reasons (of not THE reason) this movie really hasn't seen the light of day since the 80s.
I love this movie. Thank you so much for putting the trailer online. In a fervor of nostalgia I managed to find a full download of the movie. To anyone who reads this, send me a message and I'll give you the link =)
I saw this in Northridge CA (during an animation festival) and it had Petula Clark's "DOWNTOWN" playing as the background music... are there two versions?? When it ended I gave it a standing ovation.
I cannot find it on YouTube. I did a search using such words as "wizard speed time downtown" and came up blank. If you know where it is I'd knowing about it since that one is what I saw and know as the awesome version. -thx!
This movie has more filmmaker joy in 5 minutes than most movies do in their whole length. It IS cheezy, but that's the POINT, it's a surreal look on what really goes through the head of smalltime enthuastic special effects wizards and animators and the S**T big coorprate hollywood puts them through. Only filmakers, editors, animators, or SFX artists can REALLY understand the true feeling behind this film. o_o
I rented this as a child back in the 80's and I've been waiting many years to say that this is the worst piece of shit film ever made in the history of mankind.
Even as a child I was amazed at how shit this film was. Worst film of all speed and time. Anyone who enjoyed this garbage was not born on earth.
I transcoded all the movie clips from the DVD rip of the Image Entertainment laserdisc (check alt.fan.mike-jittlov) into XviD format. I have no clue as to how much the laserdisc correponds with the SGE and Starmaker videos.
At 1:26, you can make out my towel and bad haircut.

the scenes where he's running while holding the girl are eerily reminiscent of the first twilight movie where the same thing happened.

I saw his first film in the 1970's. I was always surprised he never made it big like another animator of the time, Tim Burton.

There are indeed two versions. A quick search will unearth the original Wizard short as well as the newer one created for the feature.

sadly true. it was pulled because the name conflicted with another film out at the time ("The Wizard")

The bottom line is Jittlov got screwed by the producers. BTW, I'm in the crowd scene in the movie theatre.

Nice and clear. Is this off of the StarMaker or SGE VHS? I've got the StarMaker VHS but don't remember if this is included.

@mikelopedia The trailer is included on the Starmaker video, but I remember it being before the movie, not the end.
