  • The best steering wheel in F1 ;]

  • so where is the horn?

  • looks like somethin youd find in a fuckin supersonic jet i want one i want one!

  • wow that is a work of art and a complex piece of machinery

  • imagine if fangio did one of these vids back in his day? 'this is the wood.........bye' lol

  • @monkeyboy85 Hahhahaha Dude XD

That was the best comment i've seen on youtube hahahah XD

  • TALK LOUDER

  • the clutch is used only when you're starting in 1st gear from a still position.

  • Goodbye bmw sauber :( . I'm mclaren fan but all respect for all teams very much.... Some little respect for ferrari :P . Goodbye Nick. Goodbye Robert...Hope you guys get rides in 2010

  • Wait, the clutch isn't controlled by the ECU? The drivers have to use the clutch for those stupid fast downshifts in Spa?

  • i believe they only use the clutch in the pit stop if you look at the on board camera you can se them using the paddles to downshift

  • 1º Football, 2º Formula 1.

    I love these sports.

  • my friend told me that the F1 pilots accelerates and brakes using the steering wheel, he didn't say nothing about that, did he?

  • he lied

  • who? my friend or the guy in the video?

    lol.

  • ur fren is true...

F1 drivers not using any pedals..

  • interesting.

  • you're wrong, they do use pedals

  • your friend

  • your friend

  • they do use pedals! my bad

  • they dont use pedals

  • they use pedals. but only two, gas and brake. don't believe me? go check the cockpit 3d animation of an F1 car.

  • aint he wrong about the display being the same on all cars?. mclaren has theirs above the wheel. it's actually a seperate piece all together

  • The display itself is the same for all cars, but the teams can choose where to mount it. The wheel or behind it on the "dash".

  • i wonder how they shift.... first press the clutch then shift or the clutch is rarely used...like big trucks...

  • they mostly use the clutch for downshifting.

  • No, the clutch is used only for coming out of the pitlane, starting the race and recovering from a spin.

  • ya like the semi auto in wrc

  • no, the clutch is used to upshift and down shift. i saw a footage of the Ferrari 2008 and the pilot (i don't know who it was) was using the clutch to shift up and down.

  • No, the clutch is never used for upshifting and downshifting.

  • you're right, but that wasn't the clutch... it was a third lever added right below the up/down shift levers to compromise for the differential settings or something like that... something about a prohibition on adjusting it while the gear's already engaged...all they did was to circumvent rules with that lever...

  • well what i saw was a guy clearly pressing the lower-left lever (left clutch) and then the top-right paddle (up-shift lever).

  • i can assure you the clutch is not used for any kind of shifting, promise

  • @bazil83 as far as I know they dont need the clutch when starting the race. They shift the car into neutral. Press and hold the launch control button. Nail the accelerator to the floor. Wait a while, then when the lights go out they let go of the LC button, and shoot off.

  • @ba3cool COMPLETELY wrong. The clutch is used for, as I said, leaving the pitlane, starting the race and recovering from a spin.

F1 does not have launch control anymore, so that procedure doesn't exist. The start procedure is exactly how you'd move off from standing in any manual car:

Hold the clutch, shift into 1st, revs up, wait for the lights to go out, dump the clutch. Job done.

  • @bazil83

Hmm, your probably right. I was watching some program about the williams f1 car in 2005 (maybe 06), and they just had to hold the LC button. Maybe that's changed. Thanks for the heads-up.

  • @bazil83

I found a similar vid, slightly more recent though. youtube.com/watch?v=RuefrdIYMC8

  • @ba3cool Similar video, not more recent. That is from back in 2002 or 2003. If you watch starts even from 2004 through to 2007, Ferrari, Mclaren and Renault had a launch system that worked off the clutch too; check out Canada 2004 start, onboard with MSC; he presses what I assume is the LC button, engages both clutches, selects 1st, revs up, drops the first clutch at the start and then moments later, the second... Same for Kimi starting in Spain, 2006. 2003, Schumi presses a button to start.

  • @ba3cool All electronics helping the drivers in any way were baned in 2009...Don't you follow F1?

  • Adjusting the diff pot at 300+Kph. THAT's a driver!

  • man thats weird to have the clutch on the steering wheel like that, must take some time to get used to

  • my title : universal steering wheel

  • looks like a toy

  • If only this toy could be fitted onto road cars, that would be excellent!

  • hasn't ferrari used a similar concept on their new cars? its not this advanced, and doesnt have so many options, but still resembles the f1 steering.

  • a very very expensive toy... something that costs twice as much as my car damnit!! hehe

  • The steering wheel of Ferrari F60 costs a staggering £20,000

  • and what's more, the magazine mentioned that one of the engineers of Ferrari said, i can't tell you what the five knobs at the bottom do, if i do tell you , i have to kill you.

  • lmfao
