JB looks like that at age 38 (in 2007)?!! We should drink more red wine and smoke like the french!! D'ya notice that JB's cut his hair like a Japanese anime character??!
This is one frikkin' brilliant live performance man
Why don't you whine to Air and the rest of the world's cartographers -- I'm sure they'd love to receive your letters. A group can title a song whatever they like, and every international map correctly labels to body of water west of Japan as such. Mer du Japon is Air's title to their song, just like the body of water. It has nothing to do with politics, so deal with it.
"i fucking hate bringing politics into awesome music" was my disclaimer. I know it doesn't have anything to do with politics, and I do struggle to deal with a title that slaps the face of sensibilities thus attuned. This DOES have volumes to do with the violence of ignorance - you can't just smother that with how great a song is. Territorial disputes, especially in Asia, are issues directly connected to colonialism and internationally uncompensated war crimes. You can't just wave all that away.
hey what's the problem, did you take your time to read the 2 sentences in the lyrics?... I lost the reason in the sea of japan... I mean, sorry, but, there's no politics in it
it is just a bad trip on an air plain when they were traveling or something like that... just, take it easy
Too fast and out of tune, but still nice. I like it how they can play all of it live, yet with slightly different arrangements, which keep it interesting and exciting.
Saw Air last night (May 5 '07) in Toronto. If you're fence-sitting regarding seeing them live, do yourself a favour and go. Air frequently extend or re-arrange their songs for the live arena, and the change usually works for the better. Case in point, Mer Du Japon. We were grooving to this on the drive down to the show, and I had NO idea it had been sped up. It's cool! It's really friggin' cool! Now I gotta buy the single!
Does anyone know where I can get the piano sheet music to this?

No, just an oriental reference in some their song (Once upon a time) in Talkie Walkie and Pocket Simphony

i fucking hate bringing politics into awesome music, but just for the record. it's the east sea (korean territory), not the sea of japan. :)

i agree. i think it is a vintage instrument that hasn't been intonated in a while but in some odd way it sounds right anyway.
