  • I'm almost sorry I watched this. The girl's good, no doubt about it, but those applications present an extremely unrealistic representation of sword combat.

  • Question: Why do some attacks appear to include lifting one foot for no apparent reason?

  • I have a question to anyone who is willing to answer.

Why is it that Chinese Martial Arts never developed a codefied system of Fencing or Swordplay? The Japanese have Kendo, and the Western Europe developed Sport Fencing. Why is there no Chinese equivalent? This is expecially curious considering Modern China's push for Contemporary Wushu and the very unified systems it created, like Nanquan.

Regardless of the fact that Kendo and Fencing are very modernized and sport-friendly versions of...

  • (cont). much older and wider combat systems (Kenjutsu and HEMA respectively), and regardless of whether or not Kendo and Fencing are "dumbed down" versions of their predacessors, I wonder why exactly did this process not happen in China, where many different Jian and/or Dao forms were unified into a single system of Fencing?

  • @VillainousHanacha it has its not very popular in the states

  • I think she was great! Nice work.

  • Wow, thanks! I added to favourites!

  • Beautiful!!! I'm so impressed! You're very talented and impressive for your age, you'll be a great sword fighter one day! :)

  • Actually am impressed! Great job..Love the applications and demonstrations from someone who appears to be very young.

  • I love the Duckweed jian form. Why should anyone criticize this enthusiastic young girl? I applaud her efforts to understand the combat applications within this sword set. So many folks just do the form, however accomplished, with little comprehension of the actual underlying fighting principles and the variety of attacks being met and neutralized. Bravissimo!!! Keep up the good work.

  • nice applications but i dont think the kick would stop a sword or spear from continuing the attack.

  • great footwork wouldn't want a chop from you!

  • What sash does he have?

  • When she did this video, she held a purple sash.

  • @taipingvlg You have a belt system for your kung fu? I find that highly unorthodox.

  • @Momentimum So whats the big deal?..get over it!.. Being orthodox means nothing except being orthodox.

  • @bladesaint21 It means you don't do kung fu.

  • @Momentimum Yeah whatever. What I DO like about Orthodox fighters, theyre so damned predictable to a fault. I almost feel guilty when I put them on their asses..But catch myself and laugh.

  • Thats quite interesting! I've always liked this style, and it was cool to see how such fluid, graceful moves would be applied in a sparring match (or, way back when, in an actual battle).

  • this would be the yang style qing ping sword form 1, it is not the jia style qing ping, it has similar names for each movmeent, but very different moves.

  • not bad.. still need some work though

  • i go free style with this kinda stuff.

  • Your focused too much on the technique than how the strike feels. You need to let the motion of the sword flow from one strike into the next... make it effortless but effective in actual combat.

  • beautiful. However she needs some postural integration and she's not rooting 2 well.... on whole very nice esp as how young she is. one day she is going 2 b hellishly good. she maybe should throw some fillipino blade work into her toolbox as it will help anyones understanding of blade work no matter what other arts u study.

  • The applications are hidden in the form

  • love the effort put into learning this but I suggest that you perform applications with more realistic opponents. the attackers had very limited movement and did only a limited number of attacks. If you are going against an opponent who has any idea what they are doing then they wil surely know how to counter some of your attacks if not all of them. try using wooden swords to perform as many of the techniques with different rections. Not disrespecting, just trying to help.

  • you have a point.

  • @teamshintaichi for what? an actual sword fight? you're kidding, right? Nobody fights with swords any more, friend, its short blades or firearms. You actually walk around the mall or the grocery store with a sword? I didn't think so....

  • She's very good. I've always wanted to learn Taiji Sword. I'm envious.

  • i can see the buity in it jsut not the effectiveness

  • To see the effectiveness you must remember that the sword would be razor sharp on both sides, it can cut deep into the skin effortlessly.

  • i cant stop watching this video it is amazing. Thanks to her instructor for helping her make a success in this form.

  • Hi ! The girl practice very good ! A few years later ,she will become a very good teaching assistant.

  • Greetings!

I'll be honest, I admire at the way you teach your student and the way you use fencing gear and kendo kote for protection. I think is very nice and correct way for safety sparring, what is in China doesn't exist at all. Cause this unfortunately chinese swordplay became just a sword-dance and not real fight any longer.

Just want to wish you and your student be more realistic and study more about other fencing technique for rebuilding real chinese art of straight sword.

  • What a silly application? No one attacks like that.

  • To swordmaestre: The applications were just the interpretations of the movements in the form. In a demonstration done in a martial arts school where safety of the students is always a concern, one can only try to be as realistic as possible when served as the attacker.

  • @swordmaestre the people of that style?

  • oooh,,, the girl is soo young!!! hahaha!! shes a bit flimsy though... i think? she was great on all that sparing thing!!! 0.0

  • i am about 1 hour away from this school, the website doesnt list pricing for membership, does anyone know?

  • hundred bucks a month if i remember correctly

  • thank you, i may enroll.

  • The applications were very nice but in the form her movements and stances are not precise enough and lack subtle power.

  • she is 12, give her a break.

  • ya for twelve that is quite well done great work, keep it up!

  • Hoestly.....the stances and the execution of the sword movements need quite a lot of work, but not bad. The application demonstration however was very good.

  • I know this form and it could have been done far better in terms of stances, and execution of the sword movements. The application demostration however was very good

  • She's been taught well, and has trained well too. While some of the motions could use a little more "intent", the form was beautifully done overall, and it looks like she has some talent with the jian. I liked how cleanly she performed some of the applications as well... great job. :)

5 stars, and in my favorites.

  • i was wondering.. what are the two fingers for?

  • excellent rendition of the traditional wushu form qingpingjian! especially the applications section! you get 5 stars from masteringwushu . com

  • an excellent demonstration of a complex form by a very talented student. A tribute to both student and teacher.

  • Excellent , Bravo !! The form was nice and the demo of application is excellent. It reflects the quality of your Sifu.

  • This is very nice. I like it a lot. :D

  • Very nice figures and great job of Alma.

    But I have to mention:

It´s not good to train complex figures like these, with a sword that's overweight for the trainee.

  • There's good power in those strikes. Nice hit at 3:21!

  • It has to take a lot of hard work to attain such a level at that age. Excellent form. Keep it up!

  • Haven't seen anything that can compare to it

    in many respects.

  • Alma is a great student! This is a very difficult form. The demo shows her knowledge of the form - (excellent).

  • Great job Alma! I bet no boys will mess with you now. haha Just keep up the good work, you got some talent kiddo!!!

    Your cousin Edo

  • Alma, great job we are amazed. Keep up the good work oh and we will be sure not to mess with you young lady. Love Kenan and Mickey

  • Great demo of a very difficult form. The applications were very quick and powerful. She does demonstrate a great amount of fajin at an early age.

  • Alma is the most awesome and skilled friend EVER!!=) I know that you've put all your effort into making this video and have worked so hard to do it! I'm so proud of you!!:D I wish you the best of luck and the most happiness that you can possibly get!! keep up your awesome work and never, ever give up!

I Love you!=) sincerely your best bud ;D

  • I just love the applications

  • i just love watching this video whahoo

  • the best sword form and applications

    good luck and keep going

you must have a great instructor

    Great job!!!!!

  • If she can improve the walking steps in the form will be good.

  • Definitely the best and the cutest fencing video in YouTube!!!

  • It's great!!

  • Alma is the best!! Her training consists of 3years (not just on this form). With the expertise of Master Wei-Chung and her natural ability, she will continue to amaze everyone.

  • what a cool kid.

  • I have met this amazing young woman. She is as composed and graceful in every day life as she is when practicing the internal martial arts. This is what dedication and integrity, coupled with excellent instruction looks like.
