for the binaries (.exe's) of the examples, the engine itself is the source code you can use to write new programs. The examples source code is in the irr1.4.1/examples folder.
The shadows are static, i've used blender for modeling and gile[s] for the lights mainly because its more friendly to use than blender for that. The intermediate formats were blender->(.x)->gile[s]->(.b3d)
