This was great. No question. But Joe Jackson's abilities go much further nowadays. He truly is one of, if not thee, most prolific songwriter of the modern age.His work just keeps getting better and better as the years roll by. I saw him for the Rain tour in Redwood city. I was not disappointed. Keep goin Joe. You are The Man!
@PohatuJr My friend asked if Anthrax covered it when I mentioned Got the Time was by Joe Jackson and not Anthrax, but yeah..man song names that are the same..btw badass bruce lee puppet don't you agree?(well I think it is Bruce Lee)
Saw JJ do this tune on some sappy pre-teen kids live music show on Saturday morning TV, back when this album came out of course. Despite the overall safe, boring and pre-teen pop-music nature of the other bands, JJ did their live thing of this tune and just burned down the house with the power. That's always stuck in my mind whenever I hear this tune. Stellar performance!!

... and to think, and to know, that today we have aswipes like snow patrol. this is the charts. snow patrol. Joe, for thel ove of God, get into a time machine and come back and save music.
@jayfirev Joe's music may be catchy pop but this is pretty bad ass and tough for him. This is a great song and what is wrong with catchy pop anyway? Joe Jackson sounds more like Graham Parker than Elvis Costello. Elvis Costello looked and sounded like a Buddy Holly impersonator.
@PaddyRamone Elvis Costello may have had that look, but I'd hardly say that he sounded like Buddy Holly. Costello has written some pretty intense and unique stuff over the years.
what the hell does bad ass tough music mean to this guys fans ? i was at another site where this was called bad ass ?? tough music ?? huh i used to think bad ass tough music as rip your head off shit not Elvis Costello want to bees ! schools must really suck these days ! Joe Jackson fans please get a dictionary and study it .catch pop is not tough or bad ass !
@jayfirev seriously? Is it because it's lacking guttural screams, downtuned guitars and mid-scooped distortion? Dude, I listen to everything, from Joe Jackson to Cave-In (yes, even the early Cave-In) to Napalm Death to Lamb of God to Elvis Costello. Just because something doesn't have a constant D chug doesn't mean it is not badass or heavy in it's own right.
@balderdashsir I couldn't agree with you more! This is classic rock riffing that is what 75% of any rock song is based on. A guitarist can play clean and still be bad ass....you are so correct, and I'm glad you brought up the point. Hell...I've heard violins sound bad ass!!!!
this tune is nothing short of brilliant. its exactly how I feel about trends also and done in a trendy style of music for the time. tell us about the stupid lemmings Joe. you are the man.
this is great! I saw perform, for the thrid time, in Toronto last year - with his leg in a cast, so he wasn't hopping about like this - but he was still amazing!
After 30 years, how many crappy bands tried to cover this song? JJ at his best!!! I remember buying this album when it came out. One of the few best albums I ever purchased. Thanks for the memories.
JJ is the man!! Best performer in concert of anyone!! I've seen him in five different tours in different countries, and he is always amazing. Wish I'd seen him in 79.
Same here I heard on Tom Leykis' last show on the radio, and thought thi song rocks as he said that the lyrics remind leykis of him great song wish to hear leyis back on the radio
Adam Carola did a Music Monday on it a few months prior to the end of 97.1. Its a great song and for those who miss some of the best radio in the nation it holds extra significance. I'm glad Leykis used it as a final farewell over almost any other song he could have picked.
yeah i totally agree with you iam glad leykis chose to song to say farewell man i miss 97.1 fm talk screw cbs bone head move by them 97.1 amp sucks they only repeat the same so called ''hits'' over and over again iam so sick of lady gaga
Awesome song from a brilliant performer, at the top of his game! Love this entire album, classic from beginning to end! But the title track stands out! Thanks for posting that!
