@pablomd87 haha I ended up figuring that out and played it for a class at Berklee... my tone didn't get anywheres near as bitchin as this video though
damn dude. great guitar playing. I really love that you got the beatles tones then went for the queen. Thats exactly what every vox needs to be able to sound like and that covered it. Completely sold based off of that alone!
The Night train is a departure,a thoughtfully and creatively design amp that's not the same as any other amp circuit.
That said I can't understand why Vox neglected in adding a switchable sag resistor(really cheap option to include and adds tonal/dynamic sensitivity that many Vox fans like)*That* is one of the primary characteristics of the Vox sound. No sag=no sing.
A switchable value cathode bypass cap(1st gain stage) would have been nice too to add more lows.
This guy has great chops ! Im sure it contributes but you can still tell this amp has a big open sound. Suddenly I crave it, its that drastic I'll be on kijiji selling a fender deluxe hotrod asap.
sounds awesome. What a guitarist. But why not say something about the speaker cab used, and how the amp reacts on different configurations Is the cab used a 2X12 ? And what sepeakers ?
vox and marshall plexi, these 2 version of amps have so much character and personality. most other amps sound sterile and lifeless in comparision, even if modern high gain amps sound tight or any other word you would like to call it, if i could have this vox sound from the video and plexi sound in one little box i wouldn't need anything else. and the thick channel with the guitar volume rolled down sounds quite good for some plexi sounds also it seems.
@SaphirreDragon FX loops are Ok for certain sounds, but are really not as necessary when you have an amp that keeps it simple with less tone shaping dials on the front. Remember, most amps before the 80's, i think, didn't have FX loops. The players ran their pedals through the front and got better response. The less circuits and paths an amp has, the better. That's why the Bassman and Marshalls and early Mesas rule. I'll never buy another amp with more than 5 controls on the dash again.
@SaphirreDragon The only problem with the Night Train having an effects loop is that there is too little surface area inside to put a fully buffered effects loop in like you would want. The transformers inside are monstrously huge and I believe are used in bigger and more powerful amps. Unfortunately to add a fully buffered effects loop, you would need enough surface area to squeeze another tube in there.
@SaphirreDragon Usually these "small" amps are miked up. So if you are using a mic that means you have a console mixer board...if you have that...that means you have insert channels.. that means you can use FX on the board in the channel where the mic used for your guitar cab is. So you can apply delays, chorus and whatnot to what the mic is picking up...and you could even use stereo FX with 2 mic instead of using a pedal board and 2 amps.
Amazing sound... love how the Van Halen en Queen fragments sound on this little thing. Waiting for a call by my local music store to have a go with the new cabinet.
I'm getting one. This is what I wanted the tiny terror to be, but it never was, so I kicked it to the curb. This thing is superior. If theres any doubt, check out the demos of the TT and NT by ProGuitarShopDemos, same guy, same guitar. Let me know what you think.
Could you help me? Im deciding on whether to get an AC50 or a NT. I tried them both side to side and they both sound GREAT. However the AC50 is really loud and kinda needs to be cranked to get the best sound which at the moment I can't do because it's only for bedroom practice which is why the NT would be great. Also the NT is $600 cheaper. Another point is I wasn't fond of the 2nd channel on the AC50 but loved the first channel, but should I really spend more for a channel I won't use?
I love the simplicity of the NT, and it's so sexy, but the AC50 does have more features which could come in handy (such as reverb, tone cut etc), but again costs $600 more and the second channel is not to my liking. I would love to get some advice if you'd be so kind. thanks mate!
why don't you get neither? Vox products nowadays are known to have flaws... might as well just get something else or wait it out. plus if your budget is enought to get an ac50 there are loads of amps that would suit u better.
It has a nice tone for sure but it lacks rectifier sag and sponginess...
Vox should have added a rectifier simulation circuit like the ac15cc has and made it switchable.Would have been cheap to add and made a world of tonal/feel difference.
i just sold my handwired ac30. i think i'll buy this if i want that vox tone again. i love the idea of a bright/thick switch. the tiny terror never did it for me.
this blows my mind. I'm getting the ac30HH + cab soon, but as soon I have some extra money I'm buying this one too. This blasts the orange away. Okay it's just a diff sound than the orange, but this sound is so defined, with the tiny terror it's all scream and brutal force. With this it's so defined and mannnn hear that thing go!
what song is he playing at 0:55 ????? Im pretty sure thats a beatles tune but have no idea which!

I played the following tunes through this amp:
Paperback Writer
I want to tell You
Walk Away
Funk 49
Anything by Ac/Dc
Freak Out by Chic
and some random Country noodling.
It delivered the EXACT tone on each tune. Plus, in triode setting it fedback and sustained like no other amp outside of a cranked Marshall plexi!
This is the best amp I've ever played. And it only cost under $500! All Tube, no silicon! Only 4 knobs for tone. That's all any amp should have!

There is a new 1X12 called the V112TN with a "Greenback" that sounds great.

Vox really should have offered a switchable "sag" feature, such a feature would cost very little to integrate.
Rectifier sag is critical to the Vox AC15 tone.
I think Weber VST offers add on sag emulators for about 20 bucks.
Gotta have the sag!:-)
