He gets traumatized and severly paranoid at an early age. Omg he got abused as a kid, dont you think it would have caused some kind of psychological damage. Poor kid. And then Goten arrives and hes like the happiest child ever,...so care free and full of joy.

Maybe...just maybe Gohan is so traumatized that he surpresses the harmful memories and stays hidden in the books...no wonder he becomes weak in GT
