biggest problem is panasonic won't guarantee waterproofness beyond first year UNLESS you send it in for them to replace the seals. and guess how much that costs? the standard flat repair rate of $140 + parts. So even though you are doing exactly what they designed the camera to do, they want to charge you almost half the value of the new camera annually to continue to use it as specified.
I've had mine for a little over a year... and on a recent trip to Hawaii, it broke... being submerged in the water. Certainly this is just clever advertising and you would never do this with your camera, but still--it's not near as shock/water proof as you'd think and like.
Hahaha, I laughed under the entire video, soooo cool commercial :D
Btw, I bought a FT1 fall 2009 and was wondering this...when I record in HD, I can only record for 8 minutes..why can´t I record further? The memorycard is 16 gb!
I bought one, and it leaked on its first use. I took it back to panasonic, and it took 3 weeks to be replaced. They determined that the camera 'did not leak' and they replaced it under 'good will' - what BS. I will never buy a panasonic camera again.
AND - if you do your research on the net, you will see hundreds of cases where people have the same issue. Now I am too scared to use my camera in the water - whats the point of that. There are much better non-waterproof camera's in this price range.
Bought a TS1/FT1 for my trip of a lifetime to the Caribbean, work fine on 3 snorkel trips, on the 4th it leaked & now does not power up. I always made sure seals was free of crap etc but still it leaked. I only managed to capture the first week of my holiday, so not only have I got a £270 paper weight & lost the chance to record my holiday. Im so pi**ed off. So what are my chances of getting this repaired/replaced under warranty?
Good chance, but they will blame their bad design on you and replace it as a 'good will gesture'. However, its been 3 weeks after my 'replacement' got approved, and im still cameraless, never Panasonic again.
@PanasonicAustralia sounds a bit optimistic from my experience. I guess this is reduced in lower temperatures (like in the Atlantic off the west coast of Scotland :-) )

whats shockproof means?
FOREVERYOUN9 2 years ago
@FOREVERYOUN9 It means it's stronger than your average camera, it wont break if it falls or something, it's more resistant to shock and damage.
You can google more information if you want.

Does anyone know about this camera, how long can they stay in the water, metres?
