i wish i was born in the 1970, so Iwould've been 13 when this came out instead of me being almost 14 right now and seeing this instead when it came out 28 years ago.
this song brings tears to my eyes, it makes me reminince about my childhood friends and all the trouble and good times we had. good song to reflect on your child hood.
One of the most beautiful opening title sequences ever. I saw the film at one of the loneliest times in my life and it always moves me very deeply every time I see this and hear that beautiful song. I worked with Patrick Swayze on his last project and we talked about the film and I told him how much it meant to me. Now that he is gone it has that much more meaning to me.
Music score is by Carmine Coppola. If anyone wants Wonder's re-recording of it let me know and I'll upload it for you.
In the revised version Carmine Coppalla's music is replaced by some shmaltzy campy 50's background music. Makes you feel like you're watching an updated version of the Blackboard Jungle or something. Thank you for posting this though. I absolutely love this song!
The uncut version is overall a vastly inferior film to this original in every way. Coppola pulled a Lucas. *sighs*
I hated 99% of the music changes. Most of them turn a scene that worked perfectly originally with the great score to an unbalanced, mostly cheesy equivalent.
Yeah, I would be too, but what would it be about? S.E. Hinton (Susan) said she'd never write a sequel, I think it would prolly break her heart to write about Dally and Johnny not bein part of the main characters...I knw it would break mine. I just finished the book and I've been grieving for the past couple days...
esta pelicula es todo un clasico de cinco estrellas, lastima que en su estreno en 1983 la critica y el publico la trataron muy friamente. El tiempo puso las cosas en su lugar convirtiendola en un film de culto y a su reparto en una verdadera leyenda.
I luv this film, Stevie Wonder, the literature references and most of the soundtrack, does any1 know the classical atmospheric piece played in the background throughout parts of the film?
i remember a game that had part of this movie in it...it had the Greaser gang and stuff. at the end the main character visits them and they say one of the members is robbing a store...and then you see a cut scene of the one where Dallas died...except its game-like...and the cop uses an AK.
Man I cry everytime, makes me think of little Johnny and all the greasers, best movie in the world

Amazing song. Fantastic performance by Stevie Wonder. His greatest vocal performance in my humble opinion.

The uncut version really has no opening credits, right after he says 'movie house', the movie starts.
It also has more to it, it shows him being jumped at the beginning.

I ment the classical atmospheric piece played in the background when Dallas is dying, not the rock but the music from the original film?

I'm pretty sure that was the original score composed by Carmine Coppola.
