How about the fact that 335 is turbo'd & M3 is pure motor. The aspect changes when a turbo comes in to play. There's probably delay in the 335 which could be why the m3 gets off the line quicker. Also ones a 4 seater the others a coupe. Idk just a thought. Turbo the m3 tho & you'll walk damn near anything :D

I have driven a 335XI with a tune, I was disappointed with its acceleration. Good hp, great from a dig, amazing ride quality, but my 80's 944 Turbo trumps it.

I love both cars. However, I just traded my '06 M3 for a 2008 335i. Either way, both cars (stock) could beat 99% of anything on the street. I just ordered the JB3 that should add almost 100 lb/ft of torque to the wheels. This N54 engine is a freakin monster!

I've owned a M3 and driven a 335i. I'll take the M3 any day of the week. The M3 just is so much more fun, better sounds, purer engine response, better chassis feel, just better. M3 FTW.

Agreed. I have an M3 also and it has so much more character than my mates 335i. The 335i is just a "normal" beemer, and personally I don't think it sounds very beefy. In fact an E46 330i Sport sounds beefier than the 335i.

They sound better because of the restrictive exhaust and the turbo quiet the 335I. I have one and with performance exhaust manifolds and bigger pipes.. sounds amazing look it up. Can't argue with the feel of the E46 though

I own a 2009 335i xdrive coupe and have driven a 2006 E46 M3. I prefer my 335i over the E46 because my car has a more comfortable ride, slightly more spacious, better transmission, better traction, smoother shifts, more technology (hill descend, rain sensing wipers, heated steering wheel), better quality leather, adaptive xenon lights.

The E46 M3 does have a more aggressive stylish body with quad exhaust.

My 335i is a 3.0L and the M3 is a 3.2L. The 335i is twin turbo'd and still rated at less HP than the M3. If the engines are the same, how can the twin turbo version have less HP? They're both inline 6 engines, but not the same engine.

Fuel pump on 335i isnt that much of an issue--- if it breaks, it will happen during warranty.

335i can beat an E46 M3 with a turbo tuner like the ones offered by Vishnu or the JB3. JB3 can add like 70hp to the wheels...

But on e36 M3 it is a totally different engines for US market.

But keep in mind US M3 is lighter then Euro M3 by 220lb. So it could still accelerate 0-100km in 5.6s

Euro 3.201 L6 (S50B32) has double VANOS and higher compression, than

US 3.152 L6 (S52B32) single VANOS.

He was actually driving and shifting really well. If you are saying he doesn't know how to shift because the 1-2 shift took a while, it's because it was spinning the tires into second gear badly. You can hear the tires spinning when he puts it into second. He actually shifted very fast.

M3 is faster than the 335i hands down. I've proven it over and over. Check out my uploaded videos of my M3 vs my friends 335i. I have quite a few that clearly shows the speed difference. M3 > 335i

I work at BMW and the 335 is faster than an 06 M3 and has about the same performance as a 08 M3. BMW performance stats are under stated for the 335i. Check out edmunds and other car magazine sites where the 335i was road tested. 4.7-4.8 0-60 for the 335i. For you M3 owner's sorry I know it's a pride thing since I had an M3

I would really contest the sounds better part. Those m3's really sound shitty. I have a porsche 993 targa, thats a real sound. The 335's sound pretty good. Also, if you chip a 335, it will most definitely beat an m3, and that upgrade costs around 4k and you keep your warranty. My saturn beat an m3 all the way up to 90 btw.

the 335i is a BiTurbo. BiTurbo means that the 2 turbo's operate at the same time. Another more common twin turbo setup is sequential which means one turns on at a lower RPM then the other follows at a higher RPM like the Supra TT. Thats the difference, has nothing to do with the engine type.

Thats true. it is heavier... but the m3 feels faster than the 335i even though i think the 335i was faster by very little than the convertible m3. We did own both cars so that why i had the opportunity to try them out. You can't compare the m3 to the 335i and say yeah fast and really fast either cuz they're almost equally matched. Amazing job what BMW did with both cars, but the 335i twin turbo system was just mind blowing.

yeah the 335 is the best non-m car bmw has come up with in a very long time. the 335 is acually faster then the z4 m-coupe around track but like 3sec. If the 335i had a vishnu, it would have been ahead from the start and left the M3 behind. They do a mid 12 verse a mid 13 for an E46 M3.

Some stock 335is are quicker then M3s, others arent, some are dynoing only 270 rwhp stock, others 295. This obviously makes a difference.

But procede vs m3, is an easy kill. V2 procede is now available --> 370rwhp...
