These are songs that we will probably never see again. All we hear about is now sex, drugs, money or people whining and putting others down. Hopefully an artist will one day arrive and give us meaningful music again. Sure Coldplay is there, but we need more. We need Zep, Pink Floyd, Eagles, Beatles, Jimi...actually, give them all back! Listening to these people will make you look at this world differently and make you think about how can we fix everything we have broke. We have one earth, save it
It's so true, too...How many places have you gone to where you said "man, this place is great" only to find that a few years later it's been turned into a commercial wasteland?
i dont swear but what a ..ing brilliant track..tears at ones heart and tears in eyes,,well put together,!!! love you all,,a british junkie reporting.. take care..
Yeah I haven't heard it 'really' since the 70's either. The song is like a foreshadowing of what has only gotten worse and worse,,,,MORE building,,,,little boxes,,,prison-like fortresses to keep the 'outsider's' OUT. CA has become a land of gated prisons for slaves to Babylong,,,,Now What????? I heard Don moved back to Texas to raise his kids,,,,,I realize now how he never REALLY got sucked into the vortex of fame. He landed on his feet. What I always wondered is if he was BORN with song.
I haven't heard this song since about 1975 and all I remembered was the line 'called it paradise' and through the wonders of Youtube, and thejunkie45, here it is, better and fresher and more topical than ever! Wonderful!
This song should be played daily just to remind the world how much we are ripping it apart, one of the finest songs ever written and how so true considering how long ago it was written
So many producers out there now. What ever happened to production? Every note ever played by this awesome band was carefully chosen. This band possesses a talent that only a handful of bands do. Fourteen thousand views... wtf?
@kentucky9999, what is the definition of greed? your computer, your lights, heat and air, an automobile, live in a home you didnt build, people that get up every day and night to protect you and your family. where is the fuckin greed? look in the mirror...
for all the people in this world that have nothing and you have what you've got.
Hotel California is an absolute masterpiece. Alot of the other stuff the Eagles did is bubblegum or pop/country or whatever you want to call it. They weren't The Beatles or The Rolling Stones or Led Zeppelin or The Who or Bob Dylan or Neil Young.or Pink Floyd or even Bruce Springsteen. They were a very, very good band though.......I wouldn't say Henley and Frey were the nicest people in the world. I also think {along with the Rolling Stones} the Eagles were incredibly greedy. They patrol youtube
I was 12 years old the first time I ever heard this song, I am 47 now. Anyway, from the moment I heard this song I have said it must play at my funeral. It is my all time favorite song, and how fitting it is sung and written by my all time favorite band. Love you guys. Thanks for sharing your gifts with the world!
This song is so much more than just a song. It has always, always, brought me to the reality of what is happening in this world. Looking back as a teenager, I was sheltered, and yet I was sadden by the truths it unfolds it its poetic prose of current happenings. YET, I am still hopeful, humanity will wake up. Thanks for making this, I love the simpleness, AS "Less is More."
In that same interview he said that this is probably his favorite Eagles song. The message of this song only grow more true every day... is that a good thing?
God, Don Henley is so right. We are the only animals on the planet of the earth that have the ability to reason, yet we make so many bad choices as people, choices we do not even know about. specially lately. Greed, apathy and lack of gut instincts.
This was more or less my exact sentiment the first time I ever saw LA - and more specifically - the LA coast line. And the line still occurs to me every time a stand on a ski slope, looking down at all the condos and chalets crowding their way up the mountains.
There is SO much truth here... it is a little overwhelming... powerful, powerful stuff. "Hotel California" is a great album with a great deal of hidden meanings...
"We satisfy our endless needs and justify our bloody deeds, in the name of destiny and in the name of God" One of the best lyrics ever written.Pax to all from 73soulboy.Xxx.
@73soulboy simple to satisfy their god that they created. Oh, by the way, my god is better than your god, and if you don't believe me i will fucking kill you and all your children. Get it?
Another great Don Henley and Glenn Frey Compisition? This was mine and my girlfriend Kristines favorite song since she was from Providence Rhode Island! I thought that was cool we worked at disney together in Florida 15 years ago. About my favorite track from the 1977 Album of the year Hotel California!!!
This is the song that made me a Don Henley fan forever. I still can't believe how awesome he sings the last line of this song. And to boot he's a virtuoso drummer. Don Henley is a musical genius. The Eagles are one of the most talented bands in rock and roll history. In my opinion of course.
@tubatag Well as much as I like the guy, virtuoso is a very strong word. I mean it is very hard to sing and play at the same time but still don't think he reaches the level of people like Bonzo or Ian Paice or Mitch Mitchel. In my opinion of course :P
Love this Song and the Eagles, Thanks who every you are (thejunkie45) and (Vigrobaby) Check out "learn to be still", "A whole in the world", "Seven Bridges" and Joe Walsh with the Eagles doing his song "One Day at a Time". These are Spiritual songs to me!!!!

What are we looking for in the new world?
We just need to look back and see what we have done. We just need to stop and see what we can do to the future world.
Let's see what this song means to us!
