Wow that was really good... It was amazing - the bit when Ms. Lemon contemplated life without Poirot Lol
And poor old Captain Hastings, tried to be a detective for the day and failed. But semi understood what was going on when the Countess Fuc*ed up.. Nice work Agatha !
HATED this episode..totally undermined the whole point and meaning of the character. Shame on you agatha christie for writing such sentimental dribble
She is supposed to be leaving and probaby not coming back but she says, "au revoir" which means I'll see you again. You would think she'd say, "aux deux" which means I'll never see you again but she doesn't. / Interesting that in the books she's a red head I believe and has a huge personality. Quite opposite from this woman.
I can't believe it - Poirot, the man of Justice, undermines the very work and principles he has built his life upon for an infatuation of a woman. I appreciate the Romantic swing of the whole episode, to be certain, but it really is less of a detective-mystery and more of a Romance. Very different for the genre, no? Neverthless, a good story, with very unexpected conclusions.
There were two tramps - the first (genuine) tramp who was frisked by the cops; and then the second (fake) tramp (who drove off in the car) was one of Poirot's hired detectives to lure Hastings off the scent.. (and to plant the necklace; his gun had blanks as noted in the end). Why the private dicks agreed to that deceitful stunt is baffling. A crap episode, in a crap season.
OMG--Look at how Lonely and pathetic Hastiings and Lemon are at the table, mourning over Poirot's new found love. They wonder of their future w/out Poirot. Hatings a farmer ???and Lemon gets too emotional for words.??
5:55- Goodnight - Working late Mr. Poirot? You do work so hard Mr. Poirot. You know, sometimes i think you really aught to.....Nothing Mr. Poirot. Goodnight Mr. Poirot." Strange to see Lemon looking so lonely over Poirot. I never really knew she had such feeling towards him.??
7:31 This is a sad and beautifully ironic scene...
"Madame... You are the most Remarkable, the most Unique Woman that I have ever met. But also.....Opposites. You must continue your work and I must continue mine....But, not in the same country."
"These are for your protection. During your short visit in England, there have been 4 very clever robberies... I would not wish you to be involved in a 5th"
How Ironic that Poirot should Fall in Love with a Master Thief.
Very clever of Poirot to stage the story of the fake burglar. He got the neclace back from the countess and put it in the hedge to let Japp find. It then made him triumphant and boastful as if he had solved the case himself. Which of course threw off suspicion and also helped in getting his superior off his back and him back into favor and his good grace. In other words he secretly helped Japp & at the same time helped the countess.Suprisingly this is not the first time he let the crook go?
The countess was the thief and the tramp driving the red car he understood her motivations for doing so. he know that she will be in danger if the police or some man find out about her and he didn't want to put her in harms way
Poor Poirot. His heart was aching. He knew he couldn't be with her, and he obviously didn't trust her, sending two men to accompany her to America, for fear she couldn't resist another attempt at thievery. The story was sweet, but I felt bad for Miss Lemon. She seemed just as heartbroken, knowing Poirot didn't see her in any role, other than an outstanding secretary. Great story.
It was not dull at all ! Full of funny scenes, wenn miss Lemon sees the tramp going away in a MG car or the fine way Poirot did make the countess understand that he knew she was the theft. Or the scene with Hastings and miss Lemon making such a funny enquiry. A really nice episode, indeed !
the irony, that of all people poirot should fall in love with a jewell thief! at least she was a just thief and not a murderer, and she wasn't exactly stealing from the poor..
fuck you poirot, in Murder On The Orient Express, poirot got furious to all the killers eventhough they did it in the name of justice for a little girl, but here its him who let the criminal free just like that.. fuck ya poirot, fuck ya
damn his hormones, for a guy like poirot to let this one slide shows his integrity in the end. Russian countess is the jewel thief, she gave him the jewels in that red pouch for him to plant it in the garden. What I don't understand is why would the other detectives go along with the charade? It prolly has something to do with her real name he mentioned in the end, Veera Rosseco or whatever. oh well, something different for a change.
i agree with you..........apart from teh picnic and the rolls and of course poirot's flat it was extremely dull. And any idiot knows the bp is vr in russian. Bye
@HAZIDEAD The countess was the thief. I think he let her go partly because he was in love with her and partly because he understood her motivations for doing so. You see most, if not all, russian aristocrats were impoverished due to the Russian Revolution & I think the countess took to thieving not only to survive but also to preserve on some level the lifestyle she was accustomed to & it gave her a thrill. In addition he saw her as his equal-on the other side of the fence so to speak.
@HAZIDEAD I truly agree! An aristocrat usually caters to another aristocrat. He also was a refugee from Belgium, remember! I think it has wonderful, subtle undertones of love and empathy, even though he had been the Chief of Police. That's why Captain Hastings and Ms Lemon were a little jealous of the time they spent together. They could tell it was a lot more emotion involved, than had been shown with any of his other cases.
@Blauwpauwtje I totally agree Hazidead. This is the only episode that I've seen Poirot love a woman. It is very obvious he knew she was guilty and he covered it up.
OMG she kisses him on the forehead. It's so cute! :)

I assume you mean "drivel". I found it refreshing to see another side of Poirot. Rather like Sherlock Holmes and his admiration for Irene Adler.

The worst Poirot episode I've seen so far... Poirot should never, ever be in love, he would let all the criminals get away with it.
