  • Tired of people complaining about our Situation about hip hop today. It's not dead, it's not even dying. All of you are just too stuck up in the "glory" days of hip hop to realize that some of the best artists that will ever live in hip hop's history are alive today and kickin hard material daily.

  • Cause I'm callin shots while I make my appearance No interruptions, no interference

  • yawp.. cats think this shit dont go. but this is what got the new RAPPERS goin.

im down w hip hop.. not HIP POP lyrics and mc'n real talent not hit record shit

  • I'm stoned as fuck as this song sounds great!

  • its weird, how I'm fourteen, and I study hip-hop like its homework. And, if it was a subject, I would be getting A's.

  • @fabulousgirl112 youre in the right spot right now thats for sure

  • @fabulousgirl112 Keep doing that! My son is seventeen and his favorite rapper is Slick Rick. I told him about the golden era & he did his research. Now he's a big Slick Rick fan. With out my influence at all he looks at todays rap different. Unfortunately tons of money can take the purity out of things and ruin it. When Melle Mel, Rakim, Big Daddy Kane, Young LL Cool J, Young Run-DMC, KRS-ONE, Kool G. Rap, were rockin you had to be extremely great on the mic to even be relevant! Then u got paid

  • Im only 17 and this bring back memories lol.

  • @childofgod042193 LOL..its good to see young ppl like urself doin ur homework on hip hop tho! salute! i got u by 17 years so i grew up to this!

  • You'll get your ass kicked, streched just like elastic, broke like plastic, you stoopid bastard!

  • Biz markee fucked I.U's rap career.....

  • He works at Mcdonalds now.

  • Who's the lamo that dislike the U

  • I always loved how he went from pimp to rugged one album to the next.

  • now this is classic hiphop music. he sampled James and Bobby Purifys Im your puppet for those who didnt know.

  • I remember when my uncle used to blast this back in the good old days. Damn I miss those days

  • This song is really underrated. Lyrics, beat, catchy. Whenever I want to do re-makes, this is among them

  • long b4 the cam joint iaght

  • goddamn this beat go hard. can't help but scruntch up ya face and nod ya head, word.

  • Thumbs up just for the quality of the upload! Grandaddy IU was ass, but this joint made some noise for Cold Chillin, they always tried to unsuccessfully replace Big Daddy Kane, but Kane was the David Ruffin of that label, REAL TALK! and no knock-offs came close

  • Classic Banger

  • worst mc ever

  • @wmrrll although you are entitled to your opinion...go fuck yourself this is a classic

  • @ImMalcolmiRock go jerk of to this wack song looser!

  • @ImMalcolmiRock sucker MC Lover!

  • @wmrrll

    fooooooool

  • @YOUdontMessWithLaFam He sucks! that is his Legacy.

  • @wmrrll - grand daddy i.u is a hip hop legend you simple minded fagot

  • Classic release

  • I used to bump this in a pirate vinyl! Shit like this make's me remenber why I love Hip Hop...

  • 44 BLAST!!!!! A Fuckin' Classic!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • @forty4blast1 WORD !

  • Now Grand Daddy is a muthafucka dat knows how to rap.

  • This jawn is still hittin! Real hip-hop always sounds fresh!!

  • strong island repesenta we had alot of fathers of the game

  • dope need this as a ringtone

  • Grand daddy iu , when he come out ,the most advanced emcee of the day , Big Ups to fred for showing me this back in the day , !!!!!!!!!

  • always one of my favorites! loved to sample some nice blues git-fiddle.....

  • when I'm thru u can pass the brew but for now I got work to do.

  • Rakim sound with a Big Daddy Kane swagger. This man is thee most slept on emcee in the WORLD! Grand Daddy IU. That's that Long Island sound...Rakim called it Strong Island! This track is sick, a doo wop track titled "Im ya Puppet". most samples of the 1987'88' golden hip hop era was used without permission and were originally composed by James Brown. BD I.U. took a different route. He was ahead of the game even back then. Not using a JB sample took great risks. It showed originality!!!

  • classic track from a classic album, big up grand daddy u

  • definitely classic...

  • LOL!! This was My Sh*t !! Whole Album was HOTT!!

  • Nothing will every come close to these days..."going out like a roach, i'll go out like raid"!!!

  • loved this sht sice way back!!!

  • this track has held up well over the years .. sounds like rakim but damn that cant be a bad thing .. i miss the 80s

  • This was truly hiphop i miss real rap. makes me want to cry.

  • Listening holding an imaginary pistol under my chin crying like Mel Gibson in Lethal Weapon, no more lyricist, see these clowns on 106&Park faking with a new dance song a week, we need a wake up call. Hip Hop is dead.

  • I love the James & Bobby Purify " I'm Your Puppet" sample

  • This whole album bangs so hard. Classic.

  • Thanks for posting this classic!

  • I get stuck in the late 80s and 90s when it comes to hiphop...

    Golden Era forever!!

  • @ti3walker True Words!!

  • @ti3walker - Ain't nothin' wrong with that!!!

  • @ti3walker OMG me too. Im a 33 yr old female. & when dudes hear me playing Gangstarr & Blackmoon they be like WTF???? lmao

  • @misababy A female playing Gangstarr and Black Moon ARE YOU MARRIED ? lol

  • Classic!!

  • Nobody I know even remembers this classic! You have to remember, these lyrics were tight as he|| in the 90's. imeem/sixfootsex

  • Where did rap go wrong?

  • @rooche14 it didn't, it's just that artists like Lil Wayne & 50 Cent took over the mainstream scene, but real hip-hop still breathes in the underground caves of society !

  • @rooche14 money

  • @rooche14 ill tell u what happened big and pac die which opened a flood gate of trash and anything goes the south hiphop started to grow cash money came in and almost anything else. then dre came out with eminem which open a new and wider market, and race of people which in turn opened the door to the new and young listeners who knew nothing about true hip hop just a good beat and catchy hooks thus markes the distruction of hip hop

  • @rooche14 to answer your question.. rap went wrong on September 27, 1982. (lil waynes birthday)

  • @rooche14 You really wanna know when rap fell off... believe it or not... BadBoys. Puff... people couldnt see it at the time.. you can clearly mark the end of all real hip hop when puff went world wide. They absolutely had hits, but it all went from underground to POP same as R&B. both R&B and Rap grew up (financialy and status) it all went wholesale crushing all growth of new grimey underground artist. even thats been replaced by stuff like american idol.

  • DAMN! This dude here was like a mix of Big Daddy Kane and Common. This tape was like one of those one tape collector items like Son of Berzerk. People either loved it or hated it. I LOVED IT!

  • haha son of berzerk was it back in the day...!

  • there you go.......

  • IM YOUR PUPPET

  • the seats maroon, system kicking a dope tune, stars are bright tonights a full moon...wow super classic , more music from this album would be great ;.

  • FLAMES!!!!!

  • If you are watching this video dont act stange just turn it up loud!

  • They don't make em like this anymore...

  • What yall know about this.

  • IU and Kane battle would have been nice, back in the day..thier styles are sort of alike, but i think Kane would have got him

  • yeah it would've been a good battle and kane would have won kane no doubt

  • Hempstead!!!!!!!!!!

  • He was cool but he always tried to mimic whats hot at that time......dope producer though... he produced the records for biz markie this track he sounds kane.

  • What the fuck are you talking about? If you don't know shit about something than shut the fuck up

  • relax internet bully. Not that serious.

  • lmfao

  • In NYC DJ Red Alert use to mix this up real nice back in the day in.

  • Hi C sampled it too song of the same name.

  • This guy can rip it

  • you came out?

    good for you.

    takes alotta courage!

  • damn ma, what year did this come out? i miss this vibe. many artist used this sample though.. i was born in 79' so i love hiphop for the mid-late 80's and the whole 90's.

  • It came out in early 91

  • 91......this sample is called I'm your puppet... check it out

  • ur 100% acurate playboy cuz my mom has that record

  • i actually found this thing in mp3 format. never thought it was possible. thought i was the only one to dig this cat.

    Peace

  • i got original cd....dope

  • D-O-P-E

  • Real hiphop

  • that sample man, siiick!!!!!

sounds a little like the bizz markie juice crew style.

  • with biz singing the chorus :p)

  • he was on cold chillin records..sample label as juice crew

  • classic.

  • So turn it up loud and let the bass thump...give me the mic and watch the whole place jump

  • this ain't sesame street I aint ernie or bert lol

  • This song reminds me of my party days in Sacramento, California 1986-92.

  • Somebody really knows wut they're doin..Thats all I can say.....Classical babyyyy......!

  • Wow, Youtube is the shit! I can't believe I forgot about this track!

  • NYC THE BEST BUDDIE

  • this song is sick, prod by biz markie

  • his style is similar to Will smith's on Summertime. I don;t know who released their track 1st though...ain't nothin new under the sun!!

  • Grand Daddy IU's was first (1987 or 1988 I think) Will (Fresh Prince actually) was in like 1990 or 1991.

Both sound like Big Daddy Kane's style to me... oh well. All good music.

  • How you figure that?

  • saint, are you addressing my comment. If so, i was just commenting on how the slow flow remids me of will smith's summertime. I like both tracks, i just noticed a smiliarity.

The popularity of flows and styles have constantly been in transition since hip hop started. The new thing now is the southern (BS to me even though I'm from the south) flow that most of the ATL and FLA raper have now.

  • Duke had an ill stage name, but his whole swag was very Big Daddy Kane-ish with a little Rakim thrown in the mix.

  • thats his era... when lyrics AND music was tite!!! 88 fo' life bitches!!!

    da relic

  • EXACTLY!!!!!

  • I remember him and Supa Cat came to town and rocked that biaaach!Haven't heard this joint in a while and it's still hitting better than souljaboy and that fifty bullshit.

  • I remember this song from Rap City on BET. He is a smooth rapper.

  • I've been looking everywhere for this shit! Dope! This is what I grew up to!

  • GrandDaddy I.U. "Something New" is a Hip Hop Classic without a doubt. Listen to the lyrics and beat. WICKED!

  • This song is very underappreciated. Put this against any corporate song of today and it kills it artistically

  • Cus I'll take your pride like a stick up kid...Classic shit..Uncle Ralph stayed rocking this vid on VMB..peace NY real rap..not that down south crunk garbage

  • that ish is dope. they used that im yer puppet sample right?

    I luv this.

  • man...what a beat!

  • One of the best one-hitter-quitter rap songs ever. Can't remember if he made more than one album.

  • Random example of how I.U. was dope, from "The U Is Smooth":

"I'm talkin flicks and autographs, saunas and bubble baths / Producers and managers hawkin me like psychopaths"

    Good shit.

  • Hearing this song brings back so many memories (Rakim,Das Efx, Big Daddy Kane, A Tribe Called Quest) of how hip hop used to be considered an artform. Not all the Southern bullcrap we're subjected to nowadays. Long live the "U"!!!

  • classic/real hip hop!!! damn i miss da' real.

  • man this song brings me back, dude had flow kind of a big daddy kane with slick words, if you can post another hot song from this album that would be much appreciated
