Tired of people complaining about our Situation about hip hop today. It's not dead, it's not even dying. All of you are just too stuck up in the "glory" days of hip hop to realize that some of the best artists that will ever live in hip hop's history are alive today and kickin hard material daily.
@fabulousgirl112 Keep doing that! My son is seventeen and his favorite rapper is Slick Rick. I told him about the golden era & he did his research. Now he's a big Slick Rick fan. With out my influence at all he looks at todays rap different. Unfortunately tons of money can take the purity out of things and ruin it. When Melle Mel, Rakim, Big Daddy Kane, Young LL Cool J, Young Run-DMC, KRS-ONE, Kool G. Rap, were rockin you had to be extremely great on the mic to even be relevant! Then u got paid
Thumbs up just for the quality of the upload! Grandaddy IU was ass, but this joint made some noise for Cold Chillin, they always tried to unsuccessfully replace Big Daddy Kane, but Kane was the David Ruffin of that label, REAL TALK! and no knock-offs came close
Rakim sound with a Big Daddy Kane swagger. This man is thee most slept on emcee in the WORLD! Grand Daddy IU. That's that Long Island sound...Rakim called it Strong Island! This track is sick, a doo wop track titled "Im ya Puppet". most samples of the 1987'88' golden hip hop era was used without permission and were originally composed by James Brown. BD I.U. took a different route. He was ahead of the game even back then. Not using a JB sample took great risks. It showed originality!!!
Listening holding an imaginary pistol under my chin crying like Mel Gibson in Lethal Weapon, no more lyricist, see these clowns on 106&Park faking with a new dance song a week, we need a wake up call. Hip Hop is dead.
@rooche14 it didn't, it's just that artists like Lil Wayne & 50 Cent took over the mainstream scene, but real hip-hop still breathes in the underground caves of society !
@rooche14 ill tell u what happened big and pac die which opened a flood gate of trash and anything goes the south hiphop started to grow cash money came in and almost anything else. then dre came out with eminem which open a new and wider market, and race of people which in turn opened the door to the new and young listeners who knew nothing about true hip hop just a good beat and catchy hooks thus markes the distruction of hip hop
@rooche14 You really wanna know when rap fell off... believe it or not... BadBoys. Puff... people couldnt see it at the time.. you can clearly mark the end of all real hip hop when puff went world wide. They absolutely had hits, but it all went from underground to POP same as R&B. both R&B and Rap grew up (financialy and status) it all went wholesale crushing all growth of new grimey underground artist. even thats been replaced by stuff like american idol.

damn ma, what year did this come out? i miss this vibe. many artist used this sample though.. i was born in 79' so i love hiphop for the mid-late 80's and the whole 90's.
saint, are you addressing my comment. If so, i was just commenting on how the slow flow remids me of will smith's summertime. I like both tracks, i just noticed a smiliarity.
The popularity of flows and styles have constantly been in transition since hip hop started. The new thing now is the southern (BS to me even though I'm from the south) flow that most of the ATL and FLA raper have now.

Cus I'll take your pride like a stick up kid...Classic shit..Uncle Ralph stayed rocking this vid on VMB..peace NY real rap..not that down south crunk garbage
Hearing this song brings back so many memories (Rakim,Das Efx, Big Daddy Kane, A Tribe Called Quest) of how hip hop used to be considered an artform. Not all the Southern bullcrap we're subjected to nowadays. Long live the "U"!!!
man this song brings me back, dude had flow kind of a big daddy kane with slick words, if you can post another hot song from this album that would be much appreciated
