I think Jimmy was more of a match for Lou because he never tried to change her as Kid is trying and suffocating her in a overprotective. When she goes in a fight Jimmy always watched out for her and watched her back. After the kiss she even gives him a hint that she would have liked to make a go with him.
When I watched this show in college, Kid an Lou were the obvious choice. But, now that I'm watching again, I really think Jimmy and Lou were better suited. Kid, being the southern gentleman that he is, needed a more "gentle" woman, one that he could take care of. Lou was tough (I totally wanted to be her) and I think Jimmy respected her for that. She could be tough with him and she could cry with him. It's sad really, that Jimmy didn't fight for her.
Both were good men, Kid "met" her first. It'd be hard not to choose him. In this episode, Jimmy really makes it easy for her to decide, he was doing it for a good reason, but he tried to "control" her too, by basically taking himself out of the running.
I agree that Jimmy basically makes Lou's decision for her. I think he does it because of his loyalty to Kid and his fear that one of those trigger happy wannabes will use Lou to get to him (like in the ep. "Color Blind"). Additionally, I agree that both men made attempts to "control" Lou, but I think they did it out of a desire to protect her not boss her. Both had seen what evil men were capable of, and they didn't want to see her hurt like that. IMHO, it speaks highly for them both.
THANK YOU so much for uploading season 2 and 3!!! I've enjoyed seeing these eps again. It's been a lovely walk down memory lane. I was a teenager when this originally ran, and I LOVED it then. I have season 1 on DVD, and I keep hoping the powers that be will release seasons 2 and 3. Until, they see fit to do so, this is the next best thing.
I see everyone has a vote on the Kid or Jimmy for Lou debate. I'll be honest if it were me I could never have chosen between them. I was 14 when this originally ran, and from the first episode, Kid and Jimmy were my favorites.
Why? Because they were all about righteous indignation and righting wrongs. They both had good hearts and heroic compassionate natures. They were both chivalrous to a fault, and you add Ty and Josh's good looks on top of that....well, I'd still be trying to decide. :)
I liked Jimmy's character and he had some great qualities but there never really was anyone else for Lou but Kid from the very beginning.
Kid was just as tough (tougher even) in a fight and just as good (better even) with a gun as Jimmy. But he was also an earnest, intelligent, straight-up, never do you wrong, true southern gentleman whom she could have a real future with, not some volatile, hot-headed gunfighter!
