Can I recreate the Dark Matter distortion sounds with the TC Nova System? Or is it a completely different circuit? Is it analog or digital, or some of each? Thanks.
@jerseystringer It's analog. in both. - wether you can achieve the same sound on the Nova system.. You might be able to come close, but I don't think it's the same circuit.
@patlmable Thanks, the noise part concerns me. I think the tone in the video is excellent. As for gain, TC makes one with higher gain. This is the middle of the road zone I'm looking for. I have not taken a lot of time with the Nova System, but the distortion (analog or not) does not sound good to me. I'm also unhappy with the relative levels of overdrive vs distortion. Why should more distortion mean higher output? I'd expect that from Zoom, not TC. Levels should start "level."
@tcelectronic Thank you very much. Feel free to contact me if you need clarification. Basically the Distortion is much louder than the Overdrive in the default settings. Since the Nova already has a boost, it seems unnecessary. I would expect some kick added to both distortion and OD, since they effectively compress by clipping, but there shouldn't be a major boost, and they should be approximately the same. Best regards. PS - TC makes great stuff. Thanks for passing the feedback along.
@jerseystringer - We very much appreciate the feedback - I'm having a meeting with the product manager on monday, and I'll definitely bring this up. Thanks again and have a nice weekend.
@patlmable 'Noisy' - Is not something we've heard before, sounds as if there might be a technical issue? - Could you contact the dealer who sold you the pedal, or at least our support, please? - But it's true that it's not super high gain. - We introduced the Röttweiler to cover that ground.
Dark Matter Distortion is darn close to my 1987x plexi sound...depending on what guitar I used the amp makes a lot of humming sound and this pedal even sounds the same (a little noisey)...
Personally I wouldn't have named it "Dark matter distortion" I would have used the name "Brown" vs Black and called it an overdrive not a distrtion...The reason being this is a plexi sounding overdrive pedal.
Seeing this pedal without reading the description would suggest it's a metal distortion pedal...
@JBL8863 I think you're quite right and I think the newest drive pedal (the Röttweiler) was a response to that. Personally, when I play hardrock, this is more than enough, but I see where you're coming from.
@awesomejohnnet Just a thought, but I think he is probably the expert on how to pronounce is own name, what with the fact he's probably had it for a few years and being Danish himself. Besides, it's impossible to pronounce your own name incorrectly; It's pronounced however you decide it's pronounced! Plus, names don't change when you switch language. While we're on the subject, how's your Danish? Bet it's not as good as his English :)
Tore you're a great guitarist! How often do you see manufacturers with bad demos and rely on other people to demo for them? But you're the sole exception so far. Nice chops!
i don't like the idea of toneprint anyways, so this probably would be one I might think about getting over the other of the new compact tc electronic pedals
Oh and by the way, use a mic and turn of that delay, all i can hear is strings scratching and a really wet tone. There's a video on here for the delay pedal, adding other effects later to hear how it works with the distortion is fine but people want to hear the distortion more to decide whether they want to buy it or not (like me). Lol i know that's a lot of complaining, the pedal sounds great, you played really well...but this video didn't change my opinion in any way.
Wish you had just played some chords with the two pedals on. The pedals sound great but most serious guitar players these days need to be able to go from a slight blues twang to incredibly heavy chunky distortion for that nice palm muting chugg. From this video i don't think either of these pedals, alone or together, will accomplish that. I think what jsabo was getting at is that i still don't know how heavy it can go because he is playing blues and classic rock, spectrum people.
9V100MA like all the other Tone print pedals? Typically distortion or overdrives are way less then 100MA. Trying to figure power requirements I did not see it in the manual Thanks in advance
Is this pedal really as "noisy" as it sounds here? At the very start before he starts playing, there's a load of hum and feedback and at 2.56 when he engages the pedal, there is a noticeable loud buzz..
With me personally, I prefer individual pedals; I like seeing where everything's set so I can make little mental notes for myself reflecting on the tone.
I know T.C. electronic is amazing because of the G-System and such, but this is kind of weird for me to see because it doesn't seem like they are bring much to the table, which is completely opposite of what they normally do, in essence the G-System. Anyone agree or disagree? I just feel like they should have spent their time working more on the G-Systems or its successors and the like.
This is not a new venture for TC Electronics: they have offered pedals before. Besides. not everybody needs the bells and whistles of the G-System or the Nova System: many players still prefer pedals. And from what I've heard so far, this series of pedals offers excellent quality.
@edovinus I'm not saying that they are bad quality at all, I just think its a weird move because like it or not there are many more pedal brands with much bigger names and out there for pedals, and many of them have great quality too. T.C. is a huge name, but not necessarily for pedals
@RKRClassic TC started as an effects company. I think their first product WAS a guitar pedal.
It's certainly not a new thing for them. And, I wouldn't say there are "many more" pedal brands much bigger than TC. There's a few. But, TC isn't a small name in the effects world.
@RKRClassic G system does not offer distortion or overdrive sounds. This is a different category of gear in the analog world. They make one of the best pedals, in my opinion.

Do you think this pedal would work well with a plexi-type amp cranked?
or should i go for the mojo drive?

Nice sound on the demo & great playing
