  • Excluding dances with Wolves, Jaws, High Noon, Cinema Paradiso, vertigo and Charade this is a extremely solid list, i think Magnolia deserves a spot, and American Beauty and Shawshank should be higher. and i dont know the ending of Schindlers list isnt that good. Still an amazing movie though. Good list

  • awesome list you do some amazing stuff

  • Most of the guys who commented are idoits; all I'm seeing is "where is so and so" "so and so should be higher". Hey, it's his opinion he doesn't need to add anything or change anything, so stop acting like your opinion's should be everyone's opinion, God!

  • Some really great picks here. Overall, a very good list. I can tell that you are driven by music, which I think is at least 50% of cinema. I especially like Once upon a time in the west & Cinema Paradiso (Ennio scores). But...

    1. Vertigo > North by NW (rankingwise)

    2. Charade?

    3. Goldfinger or OHMSS > FRWL

    4. ET > The day Earth stood still

5 Saving Private Ryan > Glory

6 Kevin Costner should not be in ANY top 1000 movies ;-)

  • Very good taste :)

  • why raiders of the lost ark is in 11th position?

  • everyones list is the same on you tube get some originality folks

  • Nice list!

  • saving private ryan

  • I mean this is a very well edited collection of fav movies, the movies he enjoys the most. I applaud Chigawa for this. Some of my favs are on this list too.

  • Let's have a contest to see how many votes down can the comment below me get. I mean someone who doesn't like shawshank, casablanca, cinema paradiso, from russia with love, schindler's list, the graduate, vertigo, chinatown and north by northwest is just inhuman. And what does he like? Avatar? Please. I know it's his opinion but ALL OF THOSE?

  • 20 - Sucked / 19 - Sucked / 18 - Fucking Horrid / 17 - Was Alright / 16 - Epic Fail / 15 - More Fail / 14 - What the fuck? / 13 - Are you joking?? / 12 - Win / 11 - YES!!! / 10 - Okay what the fuck is this garbage? / 9 - Come the fuck off it... / 8 - Stupid / 7 - Dumb / 6 - Not a Connery Fan / 5 - I actually didn't like this movie, wasn't my forte / 4 - Totally fucking dumb / 3 - Not bad but not good / 2 - Terrible / 1 - Sucked horribly.

Over all I'd say this list is a 3/10 in my tastes.

  • @LeVaughnX

You have no fucking taste in movies, you prick. I bet you look like a dildo mixed with horse testicles. North by Northwest is a terrific movie and so is almost every single film on this list (I hated Dances with Wolves). You're an ignorant bastard and you have my pity.

  • @LeVaughnX

    You keep watching Dragonball buddy.

  • @BigGreenMovieMachine 1.) Dragonball was an anime; and it was much better than Dragonball Z - so I will watch Dragonball thank you.

2.) Most of these movies aren't good to me. Is that a problem? I would have had "The Good the Bad and the Ugly" if not the whole trilogy on this list somewhere....so I could chew his and your ass out for that.

  • @LeVaughnX

Films on this list = awesome

    Dragon Ball = Fail

However its a free country and everybody has a right to an opinion, I never stated it was a problem.

  • hey i am glad you lke cary grant but why charade and no notorious on the list?

  • Chinatown is terrific

  • Decent list but terrible order. Like HORRIBLE ORDER. On that list shawshank is definately number 1.

  • 20:Great 19:not seen 18:not seen 17: Awsome!! 16:Cool 15: great 14:never heard off 13:never seen. 12: Cool 13:ok 11:????? 10:Cool 9:never seen 8: My favorite movie ever 7:not seen 6: Awsome 5-1:not seen Great list anyway.
  • hitchcock for the win!!!!! by the way, everyone who keeps saying hes stupid for not putting certain movies on there, shut up its his list

  • no movies from 2000 to bad

  • ever seen a little flick called Back to the Future?

  • This is a very good list!

6 of these films I would probably place in my top 20.

From Russia With Love surprised me, though.

  • sci/fi: THE EMPIRE STRIKES BACK horror: ALIEN drama: ONE FLEW OVER THE CUCKO's NEST epic: SEVEN SAMURAI thriller: FARGO action: DIE HARD family: IT"S A WONDERFUL LIFE war: THE BRIDGE OVER RIVER KWAI fantasy: THE LORD OF THE RINGS (1 and 3) gangster: THE GODFATHER (1 and 2) mystery: VERTIGO comedy: DR. STRANGELOVE musical: A HARD DAY"S NIGHT romance: ETERNAL SUNSHINE OF THE SPOTLESS MIND sports: RAGING BULL gore: DAWN OF THE DEAD 78' western: THE GOOD, THE BAD, AND THE UGLY

  • I dont hope that u have seen all those crappy movies omg how old are u 150? get a life

  • no highlander?

  • Jaws should be in the top 5!!!

  • oldies

  • American Beauty YEAH!!! Very Disappointed not to see 2001: A Space Odyssey or any Kubrick Film for that matter. Very Nice Line up one of very few people to have a great taste in film. I also noticed that you're into many Hitchcock films. (Common Person round my age) "OMG Weerz Twighlight & Transformers & Avatar." Arrggh. Once again nice line up Great Job!

  • I was really surprise once it got down to the bottom two that The Godfather and Citizen Kane were absent =[ my two favorite

  • zzz fucken boring shit

  • charade! fuck to the yes, audrey hepburn <3

  • good list.

  • This is probably the closest to the best movies of all time. Only one thing I would change. From Russia with Love would transition to Goldfinger.

  • look, im 35, but there are almost no newer movies in this list. you cant deny that pans labyrinth was one of the best movies of the decade. and movie like the departed and momento should also be there. not all good movies were older movies, unlike music, movies have evolved into something better

  • 1. Once Upon a Time in America 2. The Usual Suspects 3. Schindler's List 4. Rififi 5. Pulp Fiction 6. One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest 7. Goodfellas 8. A Clockwork Orange 9. The Third Man 10. Raging Bull 11. City of God 12. Dr. Strangelove 13. The Godfather 14. The Shawshank Redemption 15. Vertigo 16. Fight Club 17. Pan's Labyrinth 18. The Maltese Falcon 19. The Good, the Bad and the Ugly 20. Touch of Evil
  • wheres american history x?

  • Shawshank redemption, best film ever made.

  • very very very old

  • I'll give you a hint on what my favorite movie of all time is: It was released in the same year as North By Northwest.

  • Very nicely put together, you made me want to see a few of these. In fact I think I'll watch Cinema Paradiso tonight!

Glad to see American Beauty. Pulp Fiction and Forest Gump are missed though.

  • the day the earth stood still in black and white is way better than the new one

  • shawshank should have been rated a bit higher.

The Day the Earth stood still is just a good sci fi movie but not one of the best.

Casabalanca has a great moral so i think it's a great movie. Raiders of the Lost Ark should've been in top ten! golfinger >from russia with love. and personally, i would have out Pulp Fiction, The Dark Knight, The Godfather part 1 and 2, alien and taxi driver.

    Godfather being the best.

    and also citizen kane.

but it's still a great list

  • @funnyz2k

Thanks, have fun yelling at random people and watching Transformers bud.

  • @Chigawa what?? i get the yelliing at random people part..but what?? shitty come back man

  • @funnyz2k

Films on this list= Epic Win

    Transformers= Giant Robot FAIL

However that's your opinion and I respect it, what I said was in retaliation for "you suck", no hard feelings but please, try and say something thoughtful or relevant.

  • @Chigawa where are you getting this transformers thing from??? i never mentioned the movie...

  • @Chigawa i thought that was rather good, you had very good classics, + 1 to you

  • Nice list Chigawa! Glad to see Once Upton A Time In The West on your list ( that is my favorite movie of all time.) Also you picked the best Bond movie to add in too!

    All the best

    WW

  • really nice job dude

  • wheres the godfather, the green mile, star wars n so on?

  • I had a Alpha Romeo 1986 The Graduate............It was a nice car!

  • NEED TO ADD REAR WINDOW

  • I like it. Good list. Not one shitty movie on that list. Good job.

  • Where is Psycho and The silence of the lambs

  • Nice to see a classic list :) Cool video :)

  • well it was a fun list to watch :D

  • Nice list. Funny, you ended up having alot of my favourites. Nice to see Vertigo and N by NW; two of my favs.

  • Boy, I know its your "humble opinion", but you have not seen much real cinema in your life.

  • y'know i actualy really liked schindlers list and i thought i wouldnt good list

  • lmao dances with wolves?!? omg i would put little bigman b4 dances with wolves but good list

  • and im also surprised that none of clint eastwooods films are on this list.

  • whatttttt?? shawshank is #20?? :(

    its awesome!!!!

  • @weinerschnitzelboy Yeah but not more awesome than the others.

  • I guess I was a little too jugdemental at the time iwrote that, from seeing other tube's.I know there are worlds going to fill you. And as you have good taste,a lot of enjoyement!

  • I agree/disagree with the comments. Just because something is old doesn't make it good, and just because something has blow-me-away special effects it can still be terrible in lack of story line. I find the movies that 'were' great only because of special effect lose there 'greatness' when new and improved things come out. I believe story line is the most important, then acting. A bad actor can ruin a great story but even an great actor can't act w/out script.

Well Done though (in my opinion)

  • Good taste,if you only watch American.(that's so not true, there was 1 italian movie, you know, that country near Europe) Sounds like a contradiction:' American taste'.Why don't you put U.S.A. top 20 in your title, not forgetting about 4 billion other people and millions of other artworks you wouldn't understand.Hey,I speak Americain not forreign?your loss mate.

  • @remembertoflosj

Thanks, I've still yet to delve into foreign films, like I said, I'm only 18 years old and still discovering many things, from what I've seen I like. I really need to start though, especially Kurosawa, Fellini, Truffaut etc. many of their films are high up on my "to watch" list. Thanks for your comment, you are right, American movies are such a small part of the world cinema, and I hope to discover that for myself someday.

  • @Chigawa You will,see other comment

  • @Chigawa you should watch akira kurosawa's movies like Ran and the seven samurias. watch Old Boy, Taeguki (the brotherhood of love) and also some john woo movies

  • just to correct 1 thing(its not very important) italia lies in europe, not near it.

  • @gjendemsjo I was beeing sarcastic,I am from italy.I just watched 'Are you as smart as a 10year old, where Americans say things like 'Europe is a country'

  • one of the best top 20 list ive ever seen.

  • Interesting list. It's all subjective, but that's a damn thoughtful list. It's funny how so many commenters think that modern movies are "mega awesome" compared to this. It's obvious that they believe better special effects equals better story.

That has never been the case and never will be the case as long as cinema exists. Slick production values or computer animation does NOT equal greatness. You truly understand this, Chigawa. Well done.

  • i love it, and love how each movie's music blends into the next. shawshank and american beauty are my personal top two.

  • decent list though not an art film lover's list. Most of the movies were not deeply thought provoking, but all are at the top of their respective genre.

  • you are old for sure, cause those movies where good, but just for moments.

they had lots of waisting material, not like the new ones.

by the way where is the good the bad and the ugly

  • @winpirow

Haha, I'm only 18 man. GBU would definitely be in the top 50 if I did one.

  • @Chigawa more like top 15.

GBU is one of the greatest.

and how about The Godfather series, Taxi Driver, The Dark Knight, Pulp FIction and Goodfellas?

  • @juliusyeung0330

Haha, thank you for your comments. I'm actually in the (extremely long) process of creating a new Top 100 video, all of those films are there for sure. I'm not too familiar with Akira Kurosawa, I watched "Ikiru" the other day and really loved it. That'll be on the 100 list, I also hope to check out Seven Samurai in the near future. I've heard many good things about it.

  • @Chigawa and citizen kane?

  • SHAWSHANK #1

  • some of the music in shindler's list (6:49) sounds like some music in enemy at the gates

  • Interesting list. Good choice of movies, and well put together.

  • Have only just started and see Shawshank at number 20....what kind of garbage is this....it's one of the greatest if not the greatest movies of all time, and they have it at 20 !!! Not sure am going to watch further !!!!

  • @boet613

agreed , wrote this comment and left.

  • nah shawshank in my top 2

  • shawshank redemption is in my top 3 and some of your movies are completely overrated

  • The only film "I THOUGHT" was a little bit good, was The Graduate. Me and you must have comletely different taste in movies :L.

  • What the Fuck is Wrong With you where is "Friday" and "Next Friday" And "Friday After Next" Hahahaha

  • Shawshank redemption should of been number 1 !!! :P

  • @Ch3z95 Yeah right.

  • Comment removed

  • You got a great taste in movies, Though my favorite James Bond film is Goldfinger.

  • Once upon a time in the west! Loved what you did! Want to see more of it! Same with High Noon! Glory! Schindlers List! and Casablanca!

WOW! American cinema needs you to redo these trailers!

  • not great movies but 5* for your well putting together of clips

  • i would say godfather and al pacino scarface among the best ever.

  • i agree with some of them however i think it should have space odyssey 2001,dr strangelove, rebecca, marnie,Alien, the shinning, vertigo, the nightmare before christmas, the great dictator, the gold rush,it's a wonderful life, rear window, psycho, chindler's list, king kong the original, king kong the new remake, the double indemnity, metropolis, mabey brazil, blackmail is also very good as britain's first talkie, the jazz singer, and mabey even silent films like Nosfaratu or the lodger.although there are many

  • i think saving private ryan is a great movie

  • and i luv 12

  • well theyre more classic and oscar worthy

  • only herd of about 5 of these. and i mean come on snatch and lock stock and 2 smoking barrels shud be in it

  • nice !

  • most of those arenent classics

  • starwars isint a classic ? wtf u smoking?

  • well i don't think so, I think it's a silly litle homage to every sifi fim ever made I don't like the directing I don't really see it as a classic especialy when it portrayes fritz lang's robot from metropolis as a stupid litle camp thing the only George Lucas film I like is THX1138 I like all of the indiana jones films apart from the second one which he had the most involvement in that is why it is acused of being 'sterotypical ,wymsical and racist' , those aren't my opinions but there you go

  • Hahaha who said Star Wars wasn't a classic? Imbecile...

  • Umm Gladiator imo is a bit overrated

    Troy was garbage however.

If you want to watch a good film set in ancient times watch Lawrence of Arabia, Ben-Hur, or Spartacus

The matrix is an ok dystopian movie but there are better ones Blade Runner, Brazil, and Metropolis just to name a few

  • Lawrence of Arabia was not ancient time,Gladiator is not overrate, and Troy was indeed a piece of shit...

  • whoops not sure why i said that about Lawrence of Arabia, probably didn't proof read my comment.

But yeah i still think Gladiator is overrated, though.

  • No Green Mile, OR Forrest Gump, or Braveheart!!!!!!!!!

    shame, shame....

  • @Borogolfr1990 No Pulp Fiction, OR Taxi Driver, or The Usual Suspects!!!!!!!!!

    shame, shame....

  • Gary Cooper was a great actor, but High Noon wasn't my favorite of his. I liked him in the 1940's like "The Pride of the Yankees" or "Meet John Doe".

  • Wow, Raiders of the Lost Ark got same placement on my list :D! Well, I haven't made a video yet, and From Russia With Love wouldn't be that high on my list, but I likte it very much that you got it so high :D! This is maybe the best video I''ve seen about favorite movies! Very well done!

  • from the technical point of view, your compilation is the best i ever saw here on YT.

loved it also for cinema paradiso being included!

    but lovestory???????

    lovestory and no pulp fiction???????

    or alien????????

    or back to the future?????

    lovestory??????????

    come on.........:)

  • shawshank is higher up for me

  • I love the way you put this together. I really do. Great job!

  • schindlers list and dances with wolves should be higher

  • You my friend have great taste in movies! Of course I dont agree with you on 100% my top 20 would take a slight different shape but again I havent seen all movies and neither do you. Really I think these are really great choices and if I might add please go on, you have marvelous cutting skills and Im sure Im not the only one telling you that. It is not something you can learn I think, you have to have a certain feeling, a touch and you certainly got it!

  • My top twenty would likely be very different, but I respect your choices. Kudos for including "Charade" -- that film never gets enough love.

  • intresting choise. =)

  • Cheers on your number one pick, :D and what an awesome score by Bernard Hermann. If you should do another one of these lists, you should do a Top 20 Film Scores of all Time list.

  • yo asshole where the fuck is titanic ya know the best movie ever made

  • Calm down, I like Titanic, I just don't think it belongs among these greats.

I actually had it in a previous Top 20, but have moved on to better films.

  • it is the first top 10 with no Scorsese, De Niro, Pacino, Brando or Guinness movie on the list. Interesting choices though, I just wonder how many movies you have seen.

  • Not many, I'm only 17. I've seen both Godfathers and Taxi Driver, they're just not my kind of movie.

"On The Waterfront" with Brando is great though, I wish I had seen it before I made this.

  • both godfathers? theres 3

  • only two worth watching ;)

  • i guess

  • have you seen raging bull?

it looks like it right up your ally.

  • @gjendemsjo Not yet.But you did ,didn't you?Have you seen Zeitgeist?I guess your ally doesn't go their.

  • some odd choices but all in all great list!

  • braveheart was such a classic so how could it not be in ur vid

  • I like Braveheart, if I did a top 30 it'd definitely be in there :)

  • that women in once upon a time in the west looks like britney spears again GREAT GREAT VID!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • 11 is my favorite movie of all time! great list!

  • i dont agree with all your choices but i think the love you have for films and the time u took is incredible great job!!!!!!!!!! and i adore casablanca and vertigo and north by northwest and chinatown!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • I haven´t seen some of the movies but I know they´re great! Awesome choice!!!

You really enjoy older films which is really unusual for your age. I´m also 17 and my taste goes in a complete different way.

This video looks like hard work! 5/5 for sure!

PS: I enjoyed every single minute!

  • paulib6, out of interest, what movies would you have in the top 20 then?

  • Phenomenal list! I loved it so much that I favorited it! :D haha

I am surprised there is no Godfather, though, given your tremendous taste in movies. It's my favorite of all-time. :)

  • Comment removed

  • Great vid, love that Dances with Wolves score not heard it in ages, will have to track it down!

  • Vertigo and American Beauty were incredible films!!

  • I would have to say I think Schindlers list is my number 1. I'm surprised I didn't see the Godfather here somewhere.

  • Charade

    North by northwest

    From Russia With Love

  • cool FRWL is my favorite out of this list. Glory is really good too.

  • Awesome montage, disagree with the count some but mostly it's pretty damn excellent. Casablanca is my all-time favorite, maybe not the best movie ever but better than 17th! D:

  • I consider From Russia with Love to be the ultimate spy film of the 60's. xD

  • I think it's probably the best spy movie ever next to North By Northwest.

  • This was a good list, man.

  • Good list even though I haven't seen all films on the list.

  • I love your trailers, man, check out some of mine. I would LOVE if you made trailers for Charade, Jaws, West Side Story, and/or Godspell (If you know of it, if not, you might like it)

  • NO LAWRENCE OF ARABIA?!?!!?!

  • No, I actually dislike that movie somewhat, too long and tedious for my tastes.

  • my favoret film on your list was schindlers list i love that film. i knew it would be on the list becaues of the amazing trailer you made for it
