  • Where's my vodka? awesome song

  • WOW! What a set of pipes, I wish I could sing like that. A gift from GOD. Glad Mike doesn't waste it

  • Christie Brinkley in musical form - absolute perfection in it's purest form.

  • Michael McDonald just BURNS in this! I love his performance here!

  • Awesome, now I need a drink.

  • @Lokasena I hope its whisky on the rocks.

  • brilliant aint it? thankyou.

  • This video was just added to a music playlist at JustPlay.fm

  • cenfer

  • he's such a brotha

  • I have been getting drunk and blasting this song for months now and i fucking love every moment !

  • Leaving Las Vegas!!!

  • The late, great and much underated Cornelious Bumpus on saxophone also - great to see/here him again (far right of the horn players)

  • McDonald is a good musician, but should leave the black guy shit up to a black buy. Better, just sit down and play. Really---if he does have a real voice---his performance sucks. His delivery is so strained, it's hard to sit through this without wincing. Wanna hear a fun version of this tune? Check out the Brooklyn Bridge.

Johnny Maestro, an immeasurably better singer than McDonald is, even in his

wildest dreams, isn't in top form, by his standards, but still . . . .

    mastery

  • Eleven people are crying...we'll, you get the idea; this song is brilliant, and everyone who says different are crazy

  • To me this is the best version of this song, I like it very much and I also think it's a shame it is not on the Leaving Las Vegas soundtrack, mmm...

  • @zitaperez - That makes two of us! That song fits in so well with the whole feel of "Leaving Las Vegas".

  • im drunk

  • Donald Fagen, best bandleader, Michael McDonald best singer!

  • The New York Rock and Soul Revue!

  • i fckn love youtube

  • Saw this live, you can't believe how awesome it was. The enitre Rock and Soul Review was one of the best shows.

  • @paper2liquid ohhhhhhhhh man.......lucky! damn!

  • Try Jose Feliciano's Version... there's nothing that can compare to that one!! Do yourself a favor and give it a watch!!

  • Top song from Jackie Wilson, high class performance,

further highlighted by the instrumental middle parts 1:59 - 2:59 !

  • If you really have to go out like a comet streaking across the sky, Vegas really is THE place to do it.

There is nowhere like it on the planet, it's Americana in its purest and most amazing form - sinful perfection if you will.

  • Great song..Great talent.

  • my hearth is crying crying..

    drinking more and more

  • wow one note Michael McDonald. Great job of barely getting by on this song. You are the Darius Rucker of the Doobie Brothers. I forget, where are you now?

  • lol-this-is-not-better-then-jackie-wilson-

  • I love this song...I love this film!!! Is the best song I have ever heard....The best film!! I love it!! I really love it...!!! Since the first time i watched the film "Leaving Las Vegas" I ve drunk more and more...

  • @hccscd1977 me too. don't leave a bottle of vodka anywhere around me, especially in the car.

  • @hccscd1977 the best of all...I came here to drink myself to death.

  • I love, love, love this!!!!

  • @Inspector711 that's your opinion. cool.

  • @Inspector711 You know, this is the ONLY song he sings, that I like. I think that's because of two things: 1. I loved the movie; 2. this song, with his distinct voice, grew on me. But if you listen, he misses not beat, he misses no notes. His voice kinda, kinda reminds me of Gregg Allman's voice... non-silky-smooth, perfect for the part. Something like a character actor.... fits one part perfectly.

  • @Inspector711 You have bad taste...stick to Justin Beiber, you cant go wrong.

  • @Inspector711

    awful yourself !!!!!!!

  • @Inspector711 - you're obviously a wind up mate.

  • I'm gonna drink myself to death until I get the real version of this song.

  • Nicolas Cage: Leaving Las Vegas = "Snake eyes!!"

  • ok ladies who here wants to see that shirt unbuttoned? i bet he has a sexy chest....whewwwwww

  • WOW - best version I've ever heard! Thx for uoloading!

  • This shit is awesome!

  • This is a killer album. I've owned is for several years. "Madison Time" will make you want to get up and form a "big strong line". Miss Snow is nothing less than stellar on "Shakey Ground" and also along with Mr. McDonald on "Knock on Wood". Buy this album, you won't be sorry. Boz Scaggs also does a very soulful version of "Drowning in the Sea Of Love". Great album.

  • musicas antigas são muito maneiras muito bom ouvir isso

  • The backup singers are incredibly full in their sound. The value of the sisters are often so underrated. Michael is wonderful, and the instrumentals are great, but these women really round out the sound.

  • why the fuck is there a dislike button for this song. awesome awesome work. but very little known

  • @gauthik100 Hey, they are the same people that pay lots of money to sit in the front row of comedy clubs and try to heckle the comedians. (Not a Richard Pryor or an Andrew Dice Clay one though because they'd get what's coming to them lol.)

  • love this song soooooooooooo much, rated it loadz times cant help it love it

  • watch "leavining las vegus" excellent

  • HERMOSA CANCION, FABULOSOS ARREGLOS, BELLA VOZ!!!!

  • this whole show rocked. who knew phoebe snow was a soul shouter too?

  • Didn't know a wolfman could sing so well. But he's no Jackie Wilson.

  • leaving las vegas, based on one mans true life, dedicated to the memory of john o brien heart breaking but what a writer before he died very young

  • Awesome!

  • Is that Phil Bailey on Perc?

  • Dennis McDermott on drums.

  • @Saxpiper paulinho da costa

  • Excellent!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • So Funky and Soulful! Michael really made this his Own! Sorry Jackie...

  • I've loved him since his days w/ Steely Dan & the Doobie Bros. in the 70s & he's still great!

  • @ericsibille

    Entièrement d'accord avec toi ! J'adore ce mec !

    Un vrai artiste !

Et franchement les chanteurs d'aujourd'hui devraient en prendre de la graine , car franchement ils ne valent pas grand chose !

    Vive Mr MICHEAL MCDONALD ! J'ADORE !

  • Dayum........powerful

  • I love the chap playing the piano :):)

  • Oooooooh pure nectar entering my very grateful ears when I hear this song - looooove it soooo much xXx

  • What a great voice!! great song, great film, almost makes me want to stop drinking :):):)

  • Samba, Ramba... or, just plain TOO MUCH FUN!!!! No matter how you slice, or categorize it... what a blast! =)

To luvureally: No, NO one can ever replicate Jackie. That's why (HE'S why!) this is, and will always be in my top favorite 25 or so songs in my life. But give it to Mike & Don (genius), this is sweet to listen to.

    Good, good stuff. =)

  • Where can i find this version of Mcdonald but at album version?

  • Love how the backup singers are enjoying themselves so much ...

  • Looks like Fagan , McDonald and Boz are back at it again this year, lookin forward to it!

  • hate those backing singers

  • Jackie would smil in his heaven, this is an oustanding arr and song

  • "The New York Rock and Soul Revue: Live at the Beacon" Giant Records. Is available at Amazon and other online music sites. A lot of people think this is Steely Dan. Donald Fagen is the headliner on this record but the rest of the band is absent.

  • If you read my description of this video, you will understand I did not claim this was 'Steely Dan', only linked to Steely Dan as this is a Donald Fagen effort. There never was a Steely Dan 'band', only Donald Fagen and Walter Becker (who was not involved in this project) were 'Steely Dan'.

  • Steely Dan was/is Donald Fagen and Walter Becker. There never was a 'band'. This video clip, if you read my description, (which I think you did not) is Donald's early 1990's solo effort, and only linked to SD because he is identifiable in that regard.

  • maravilhosaaaaaaa yaaaaa!

  • Michael is awesome as usual!

  • great singer do it mac

  • esta es una exelente cancion y es una de mis canciones favoritas y sale en mi pelicula favorita "adios a las vegas"

  • Ziptie was here and subbed you...Check out Zipties channel and plz sub back...Thx!

  • i like this version wow nice

  • nice song&voice

  • IMO, the great McD did do this song justice.

  • It would be fun to hear Fagen sing this, with his stoney, jazzy voice.

  • hahaha, I wish I sounded like him when I sing! There's something about his voice that I've always liked.

  • For the people who think Berry Gordy, Jr. was inconsiderate to many of his artists, it is songs like this that started his fantastic legacy as a songwriter. "Lonely Teardrops", "To Be Loved", "Do You Love Me?", and "Money (That's What I Want)" were all written of co-written by BG, Jr....Pretty amazing, I would say!

  • this song was best sung by Michael McDonald in the film "Leaving Las Vegas"

  • Michael is nowhere near the stage performer that the great Jackie Wilson was, but DAMN he can sing..... and this cover is musically so tight, it squeaks. Great R&B work!

  • @tenorbear60 It is a feature of McDonald in that he never tries to emulate or just copy the original. He puts his own stamp on it. You're absolutely right that he is no Jackie Wilson... and the best thing is he doesn't try to be.

  • Best damn version period.

  • jackie wilson is the master of this song but michael mcdonald and company did amazing work with this piece

  • absolutely fantastic

  • Heard this song on Leaving Las Vegas and loved it...what an amazing song...vocals and music are insanely good.

  • what a great voice ! I love this tune, first heard on Leaving Las Vegas

  • me too! i just love this song now :)

  • Nobody can do this song justice like Jackie Wilson. Who else had the incredible range he had?! Maybe his cousin, the great Levi Stubbs!

  • The idea anyone would want to attempt to cover this song is a credit to these brave artists. Jackie I think would have loved what Don and Michael did with this very complex tune. It's not Jackie, and it can't be.

  • This is the best cover song i'ver ever heard...

  • @luvureally He killed the Original. Jackie move aside.

  • @TheDrunkenInsomniac lovely sense of humor you have.

  • Questa si è musica per le mie orecchie !!!

    Strepitoso brano, strepitosa interpretazione.

  • It's a shame that this isn't on the "Leaving Las Vegas" soundtrack!!

  • @MrBostonmisfit I thoroughly agree was so disappointed when we brought the soundtrack and it wasn't on

  • @MrBostonmisfit ur totally right! i still looking for this soundtrack!

  • @MrBostonmisfit Indeed. Great song from an ever greater movie.

  • @MrBostonmisfit yeah

  • @MrBostonmisfit Copy that, mate. I bought the CD, and when I got home and realized this song was missing, I thought it was something close to a rip-off; especially as this number is played, what, at least twice in the movie?

Bad marketing. But this longer version, with the instrumental section, extended, is superior.

  • o yeah

  • Absolute perfection praise that talent.

  • yeah!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Cornelius Bumpus....RIP....what a killer lineup this was!!!

  • jramos11 --hey who cares how` he`s dressed this guy has a phenomenal voice. can you sing better?

  • This is a great song - sung to perfection by Mike McDonald. Thanks so much for posting it - love it!!

  • Wow! What a great job on this.. Favorite song and a favorite singer.. Thanks for posting this.

  • The way Michael McDonald's dressed I feel like saying "Hit" to him at the blackjack table. : )

  • brilliant

  • Omg, he sucks at the performance-part. Just go and look at Jackie Wilson, and you'll know that this song is made for dancing.

  • I love that minimalist horn-section solo!

For the people who are hating this:

Yes, it's not the rich complex harmonic structure that you expect from Steely Dan or Michael McDonald. It's a (gasp!) OLDIES tune. But that's ok. Listen to the emotion that McDonald gives it. And there's so little to work with in this melody, and still he makes it beautiful. These musicians knew how to take a very simple song, and make it special. There's genius in this performance. Give it another listen...

  • Play for the song...

  • I agree, for these haters: just try to sing or play this song or sing it live, before you spill out your comments, you'll fall splat on the floor for sure!! (hahaha). Michael McDonald is the man to dish out these songs.

  • pbyardh: Sorry! As much as I *love* Michael McDonald's great voice - this has to be IMO one his least fave recordings!

If you want to pay true tribute try "The Doobie Bros " or, better yet - his duo w/ Patti LaBelle "On My Own"!

  • Stcck to what your good at, is a true saying, this his not his style, no offence

  • You gotta be shittin" me! UGH!

  • What is this from?

  • I heard this performed in the movie

    " Leaving Las Vegas"

  • this is from 1991 and it was during The New York Rock and Soul Review with Donald Fagen and some friends and this can be found on the Rock and Soul Review CD and this particular album is on Itunes and i have only downloaded on track from that it is "People Gotta Be Free" but i will look into getting this song soon enough.. This song is awesome and Michael McDonald is awesome i love his style and voice!!

  • Michael is undoubtably one of the great interpreters of the last 30 yrs. His Motown albums are superb!

  • I wish that it was on the soundtrack!

  • you've got to me kidding me! Do you have ears?

  • wow nada mas de escuchar esta muy muy buena rola se antoja un buen trago.

  • I have this CD. I wish I could have seen this show.

The horns are the best part of this already great version.

lol Fagen looks like someone's angry uncle.

  • great version. love his singing but the man's not gonna when any dance contest. The man moves like the Tin Man without his oil can. Sing that Song MM!!!

  • he wasn't dancing

  • 0:13 So Sexy!!!

  • Hard to sit still when you listen to this!

  • Michael McDonald is such a gifted singer! Amazing voice !!! Wonderful video footage of this concert! Sound is fantastic. thank you!!!

  • ¿El pianista es Ernesto Zedillo Ponce de León?

  • Si, es verdad jajajaja!!!

  • haaaaaaaaa!!! jijo de la chingada asi que ese es su jale despues de la presidencia?...jajajajajajajaja

  • Why havn't we heard more of this guy. Brilliant singer. Tom Jones eat yer heart out!

  • Michael McDonald is unknown to you? You must live in China!

  • @ZhanZhuang01Do you like Doobie Brothers?

  • I own Leaving Las Vegas and it says in the end credits this song is used with permission. they couldnt get it on the soundtrack. I love this song because it's a music show song alll jolly and into it, and Ben is sort of sad getting away from it all. It fits the movie perfectly. makes it can of more dramatic. Good Song

  • It's interesting all of the comments about this being in Leaving Las Vegas, but , apparently when the soundtrack to this film (which I have not seen) was released, this song was not included. Any ideas?

  • Just couldn't get the rights for the song on the actual CD soundtrack, I guess?

Can't think of another reason. I'm sure they would have put it on the CD in a heartbeat if they could have.

  • OK, MGMHD is running this film as I type. I sat down to watch it, and 21 minutes into it this song comes up. It is when the Nick Cage figure is arriving in Las Vegas, meeting the hooker, driving along with a bottle of vodka to his mouth. I'll continue watching to get to the end, but, man, this is a sick film (to this point). What would Jackie Wilson think about it? I don't know what I think about it, but Nick is very convincing.

  • You kinda have to be convincing to win Best Actor. Elizabeth Shue was fantastic too. AMAZING film. Love everything about it.

    Great Post!

  • The same shit happened to me last night, i was watchin a nicholas cage film and dis song came up so i looked it up immediately however i didnt finish the movie, lol

  • me too, watched the film on a flight from los angeles to london hungover to bits. this song was perfect

  • Mr McDonald did absolute justice to this song. Love it.

  • Gah, I'm here because of Leaving Las Vegas. Such a good movie, and such a good soundtrack...

  • Pretty good, but not as good as Jackie Wilson's of course

  • Love the key change in the middle, and man what a vocal!

  • obra maestra Adios a Las Vegas

  • The part were he sees his boys bicycle in the bedroom just rips my fuckin heart out.

  • Never saw the movie, and the soundtrack on Amazon or Wikipedia doesn't list it. This performance has nothing to do with a movie, only a TV show on A&E. Glad you liked it, tho!

  • Actually a lot of people are gonna mention Leaving Las Vegas because the song figured so prominently in the movie as Nic Cage's character, Ben, is leaving his former life behind & heading to Vegas to slowly drink himself to death.

    Whoa, long sentence huh? :)

  • The catchiest song on "Leaving Las Vegas" by far... liked listening to it better when it was played with the movie's imagry and I couldn't make out the words rather than this, though. Sadly, I think this video lessened the song for me, but that doesn't matter. I'll always remember the one scene where Elizabeth Shue prepares to go out on the town after taking Nicholas Cage into her home, doing her make-up as the song plays in the backgroud. A classic moment that I'll always remember the movie by.

  • you damn right !!!!! it feels good.

saw the movie yesterday again after a long time. and now i was looking for this song.

    Herwin

  • This is the best soundtrack from "Leaving las Vegas"

  • Vegas dreaming.

  • Come to Mamma,Michael.

  • I hear you, pungooer. If Michael were any hotter, he'd freaking explode. A fine hunk of man indeed!

  • ADIOS A LAS VEGAS!

  • this my baby!!

  • LOVE Michael McDonald.

    LOVE Leaving Las Vegas.

  • WOW! WOW! WOW! MY HEART IS DANCING!

  • just say you will ....
